Why You Should NOT Buy a Tesla!

In this video, Chandler explains some of the glaring negatives of owning a Tesla. He also talks about why a good chunk of the population should not buy one!
Chandler has been investing in real estate for the last eight years. He currently owns 114 units of rental real estate and 73 storage units. Chandler has used his active income to create a passive income and his passive income to purchase the fun stuff. One of those fun purchases was the Tesla model 3 performance. In this video, Chandler shares why some people should not buy a Tesla. He talks about a lot of the little corks of owning a Tesla but then specifically talks about the major issues with battery life and charging. Chandler shares an experience where his battery was draining 3 to 4 times faster then what the the battery life the car said it would hold. This video breaks down why a Tesla is definitely not for the average family. Teslas are incredible but this video helps you understand why you should not buy it as your daily driver.

Thanks for keeping it real, I've seen Tesla's driving so slow on the highway trying to conserve range. These fanboys on here acting like a 2-3 year old car is ancient. I'm sorry but you shouldn't be having all these issues on a car that new. I had a Model Y loaner for 2 days and the estimated range on the screen was inaccurate. I found a EV Go charger That saved me because otherwise I'd have to have it towed. I'm not buying one till the range gets over 400-500, otherwise it doesn't make sense.

Yes is true it also take 24 hours to charge with 110 is like 2 miles per hour u have to pay for fast charge and the range is inaccurate also on the y model too if u drive 60 and above it will drain u battery so fast and to top it of be careful with parts u order if u get the wrong one they won’t exchange it or return u have to buy it again maybe in 6 more years it be better

I agree with you. I wish I saw this review before buying my 2022 Tesla 3. It picked it up new on 2-22-22. I received a text to pick up my new car at 4pm. I arrive at the customer center on time and I was notified it’s not ready for “quality control “ inspection. While we wait, I ask if we can test drive a model 3. We took it out and I fell in love with the car. Quiet, sporty, fun, responsive…cool! I get a text saying my car is ready for pick up. I have my checklist in hand and my brother in law in tow to inspect the car. Immediately, I can see the driver side window is not flush to the side of the car. I can actually see the inside of the car from the outside. I can pass my check sheet thru the gap. I see scratches and chips in the paint (it’s a new car off the assembly line). All this an not one Tesla employee to be found. I have to push the “accept” button on the app to get into the car to get the key. Well that was a big mistake. I go back to the office and inform them this car has so many flaws. He said since I pushed “accept” I would have to take it in to get scheduled for maintenance. I haven’t had even driven the car off the lot. He also said if you refuse this car it will take two months to get a replacement. If you don’t like the second one, we will cancel your order. I take the car and decide it will be faster for them to fix it than wait for a second one ( the second one could be worse than the first one). Fast forward to March 14, 2022. I take it to the service center center to have the window fixed and a whistling sound on the passenger side and the paint and fit and finish issues with the car. The two hour fix became four hours then overnight. They did offer a Uber voucher(non explanation how to use it) and a loaner car only offered when they had to close the shop for the night. And the loaner car was filthy. The next day the repairs were completed except the paint issues, that’s another appointment. To add insult to injury the technician that fixed my car wore greasy pants and got it on my new white seats. And get this……I get home open my trunk to find trash from all the packaging of the replacement parts and a tool left in my car. How unprofessional. I’m not impressed with the customer service, fit and finish and quality of the car. If anyone is thinking about buying a Tesla, don’t. It’s not worth the hassle and frustration. Take your money elsewhere. Tesla doesn’t care, they just want your time and money.

I can't remember the details, but I believe the car heats the battery in cold weather for optimal charging, and with the low voltage charger, it would probably not be enough to provide heat the battery and increase the charge level. Also, one of the things you need to remember about your electric car, especially in cold weather, it also uses electricity to heat the car. So if you are driving in freezing weather and you're keeping the interior comfortable, it may not have the same range as presented on the screen. I'm curious if the mileage calculation by the car's software does that sort of calculation to establish the correct range.

The unlock issue may be caused by your app permission settings. If you do not allow the app to run in the background it will behave exactly as you have seen; the unlock works if you open the app but is otherwise unreliable.

So tesla created a problem with a car that was never a problem to begin with

  • Жыл бұрын

@@thatonehispanic7982 No. GOOGLE created this one. Originally all Android apps could run in the background. Android 7 added the RUN_IN_BACKGROUND permission, which was a tool to reduce power consumption by not running apps that had no need to run continuously. Back then, an app would ask for all the permissions it wanted at once when you installed it; and your only choices were to grant all the permissions or not use the app, so this had no immediate impact. But it laid the groundwork for things that COULD cause a problem. Later, Google made an attempt to rein in malware apps by changing Android to ask for permissions one at a time. This makes it more of a nuisance to users to set up an app that asks for a lot of permissions, making it more likely you will notice a suspicious app. It allows you to use an app that wants a lot of permissions but still deny it the ability to use some of them. For example, you might install an app but deny it access to your contact list, which will keep it from spamming your friends. But it means that if you deny an app the ability to run in the background, you can get unexpected behavior. You can change the permissions that are granted to an app in Settings/Apps. Finally, there is Adaptive Battery, which was added in Android 9. That can automatically turn off the ability of apps to run in the background if Android thinks they are using too much power, even if they were granted that ability by the permissions system. Adaptive Battery could make your Tesla unlock capability not work, or could make it shut off depending on the state of charge of your battery.

Thanks for the honest video - Because that's exactly the stuff I also worry about and fight with buying a Tesla. We have a Car Sharing System with Tesla 3 in my town, so I regularly use them and even though I don't OWN them but just use them, I struggle with the exact same Issues. ESPECIALLY the range thing. When driving to a location, you shouldn't have to worry about how far away the next charger is and compare it with the range the car has left minus the range you lose from leaving it for x hours in the lot. That's just not worth 70.000 dollars. Sure, you can ALWAYS argue that you can't leave an empty gasoline car in a parking lot either, but 1. the gasoline car doesn't run out of fuel by waiting in a parking lot and 2. the gasoline car , even when the reserve gas light is on, still manages 20-30 miles before really being empty which gives you plenty "real range" to find a gas station.

You could slide your tesla key card behind your phone in the phone case to take care of that pairing glitch. You'll always have it there just in case. And as far as range goes, just always plug it in before leaving for a trip. My MPG goes from 35 to 25 in the colder months in my gas powered car, so before long trips I fill up, because there aren't always gas stations in the rural areas I pass through. You just have to plan ahead regardless. The new heat pump increased cold weather efficiency by 3x so there's that too.

You are funny guy, but I enjoyed every minute of it! - Are some of your issues fixed with SW updates over these 2 years? (such as using Bluetooth to open doors, range estimations depending on actual temperature and wind conditions?)

As I don't know if anybody already told you, just let SeC change the Trunk seal. This is a known issue with a wrong seating of the sealing lip. SeC changed it under warranty in my case. Looked exactly the same, with all the annoying side effects that come with it. Like bad sealing, worsened trunk closure line gap, rubbing paint off edges aso. Took a few SeC visits to figure that out but the second service rep knew and fixed the problem by changing the seal on Teslas behalf. He said the old one cannot be fixed, it has to be changed. Now the trunk lid is a perfect fit. If your SeC does not know about that issue, you can always give them my VIN. Just let me know. Your bluetooth issue, in my opinion, derives from the car being in hibernation/deep sleep. As you do not seem to use it often (judging by the dust on it ;-)) it does that to preserve the battery if Sentry Mode or Smart Summon standby are not active. Which makes complete sense if the car is in a safe area like your garage as standby drains up to 7 to 10 % per day. To circumvent the delay of the bluetooth connection which is of course a pita, I recommend having Sentry Mode active everywhere but at home and if not active and/or at home simply just start up the app about 4 to 5 Minutes minutes before you want to use the car, then forget about it. That wakes it up and there you go. Phone key connected. To alleviate the door button problem there are these stickers images.app.goo.gl/62BmEXJe7vyo2nGt8 Or these, which is what i use: images.app.goo.gl/1PfYiGUCuko9aNwe7 It is not ideally solved by Tesla though, I have to admit. B u t , in my M3P the windows move down even if the security handle is pulled. So, for everybody's peace of mind, it seems to be not a real issue anymore. I am not sure though if Tesla maybe changed the hardware somewhere along the way adding electric contacts to the security handles as i own a September 2020 M3P. Otherwise, me personally, I love those buttons which electrically knock the door open. The 'range' given on the screen is completely useless because it always shows the WLTP range no matter what conditions you drive in. This is why many people, including myself change that indicator to percent and just use it as a guess. You can find a way more accurate range guess on your Model 3's display under 'consumption' and if you choose 'trip' you get a pretty accurate realtime calculation of your milage in form of a graph. Obviously the range drops with temperature in cold weather conditions, doesn't everybody know by know? So pop up consumption, compare that to the percentage and combine it with your always rising experience with your car and there you are. Ok, driving a Tesla is more rocket science than driving almost any other car, admitted. Maybe there is a reason for that? ;-P But if you successfully tackle the challenge, it is, in my opinion, utterly rewarding... A perfectly secure, comfy Car with all 5 seats heated, FSD, Cinema, Games, plus an incredible stereo system. Surely not for everyday commutes of over 300 miles though for the time being. I give you that one. But they just got started... By the way, they just opened the new supercharger factory a short time ago. So everything is on track. So this would be it for now. Hoping I was of any help with your smaller but annoying issues, Chandler. As you did not post a referral code in the description, maybe, as I really invested a little time in this comment I could post mine? If you are not ok with that, please let me know and I will immediately remove it. So, if anybody finds the information I gave here useful and is thinking about buying a Tesla, give yourselves and me the treat of earning a thousand miles worth of supercharging by using my referral code in the ordering process. It is absolutely free and: It's a win win. ts.la/robinson23221 Best of luck. Robinson

Or just set range to % and not miles. Mileage estimate is using "rated mileage" rather than estimating using weather conditions and driving history, which will be just silly in the cold. Good to warn people about it. Less grief in Europe, Model 3 uses CCS here, so any public charger works, not just Tesla, and 230v "normal" sockets mean double the "plug in" charger speed, so battery SOC goes up regardless of temperature. Door handles are stupid, but so is the lack of wiper stalk controls, and using touch screen to turn on fog lights.

I have a model S, 2018 100D. My commute to work is 46 miles and going 75-80 MPH on the freeway, even in 32 degree freezing cold, 67 miles tick off my range for an efficiency rating of about 68% so my normal daily range starting at 272 miles, when I pull in my driveway at the end of the day, after about 8 miles of phantom drain, I still have about 130 miles of range left which isn't too bad.

  • @ElJory15

Yeah he's right. The older Model 3s get beat in the winter. They don't have the heat pump which reduces range by 50% in cold weather. Otherwise the any newer models with a heat pump should be OK. I been having a model y for a year in chicago area and haven't had any issues in the winter. Newest models are extremely more efficient.

This is one reason I think people should be able to test drive the car and maybe keep it for awhile so they can experience the car before buying and also report issues back to Tesla so they can improve. I also think it's good for them to fix or work on coming up with a solution for all the problems you have mentioned. It would be great if they also upgraded your vehicle for free for the whatever problems as well being that you paid so much.
