I see it all the time, a player takes a pass from a teammate in the offensive zone and immediately either stands and looks at the defense, or passes it around without being a threat to the defense. Either action drives me bananas! When you take a pass from a teammate in the offensive zone your immediate action should be to drive to goal and cause the defense to adjust to your drive. Of course it depends on what tactics your coach is asking you to employ, but all things being equal you need to look for an opportunity to score right away and if nothing else, cause the defense to be, well, on the defensive! In the video below you will see a good example of what I am talking about and I also explain it on the video. In the mean time, get with a partner, go to the field, and take some feeds from her (or him!) and work on dodging to goal, its one skill and attitude that most coaches can forgive you for making mistakes with if you possess it.
