Same here I once wore a skin hugging jeans on my school trip in the late 90s when all baggy was a rage... One fat slob even went to the point of bych ing about it to other mates. Till this date I dread doing things. Now the skinny culture makes me realize how cruel they are on the baggy wearing old fool. Karma is a bit ch... Nowadays, anyone wearing baggy is laughed upon. It's very important to ride the tide when it comes to fashion. I think the baggy era died and waned away in the early 2000. Then came bootcut style for a while and now skinny.

Due to my super skinny waist I tend to wear a lot of bodysuits with larger/drop-crotch cargos; I think, if anything, most people tend to dislike having their physique on display in such a revealing way, rather than worrying about how baggy their pants are. As a side note I'd really like if you showed off more women in techwear, despite it being a primarily male dominated group (I need some fit ideas Antwon).

There's an element of that for sure, takes confidence to rock a bodysuit! Will include more where I can - it's a shame the space is so male-dominated because conceptually 'technical fashion' is equally beneficial to anyone regardless of gender

That's really close to my style too! I hate how skinny my legs are so I wear wider trousers, especially thick joggers, and pair it with form fitting tops like bodysuits or cropped athletics wear (or just a sports bra, I do not care if it's snowing I cannot be stopped). It really helps bring my hips & waist out while counteracting the disparity between my legs & shoulders. I definitely agree that having things hidden away is much more comfortable than on display too - I'd much rather wear all baggy clothes than all skintight. I guess it's usually the opposite for men because skintight bottoms = wider looking shoulders?

Loose-fitting military-surplus and workwear cargos were my uniform for years. If you’re into highly functional clothes, but don’t want to spend a ton of money, those might be a cost-effective way to explore wider shapes. They won’t have the water resistance some more conventionally techy stuff does, but they’re built to last, they have very pragmatic pockets, they’re comfy, and compared to the high-dollar tech brands, they’re super cheap. In my experience the workwear stuff will usually use much heavier-weight fabric (and thus be hotter in summer), while military-surplus stuff can be more variable. Around 2015 I discovered stretch denim and converted almost completely to skinny jeans. But recently I’ve been getting curious about the “loose around the thighs, snug below the knee” silhouette I see in some techwear fits. I’m wondering about getting some workwear stuff like I used to wear and trying to modify it toward that sharply tapering silhouette.

Love that you brought to light feeling good or comfortable in an outfit. Everyone could say how good an outfit looks on you but if you don’t believe it yourself, then it’ll never feel right. Being a more heavyset dude, i found that having slimmer or cropped boxy tops with baggier bottoms is a great contrast that i felt comfortable wearing.

Nice new intro ! Another bgreat video, I am ancient and have been anticipating the inevitable return of baggy pants and clothing for awhile now. As you clearly point out the key is balance.. don't go overboard but check your look in in proportion to everything else you are wearing. The thing I enjoyed most about this video is it is like the opposite issue I had when skinny became so dominant, I had worn baggy/loose clothes all my life and more fitted clothing was a totally alien way to dress. So main advice is keep proportions balanced and have fun with it, looser clothing is more comfortable way to dress I find.

I noticed this when the new Nike MMW collection popped up and I instantly snatched the 3 in 1 pants. The MMW 001 pants are my favorite pants ever so I thought it was a no brainer. However the 001 pants from 2018 are very nicely tapered while the new ones are larger and wider. It took me a bit of adjusting but now I sorta like wider pants more. Even in a functional level, they're easier to take on and off, and also easier to move in.

With boots, try pairing wide pants with Doc Martens or Timberlands. It's a classic pairing. As for sneakers, Chuck Taylor goes with anything. Or go for the chunky Adidas Forum, Jordans or Reebok pump. I notice women like to go for a loose cut jeans paired with chunky boots and crop/tank top, but it's getting cooler here in Australia, so it'll be interesting what they'll layer it with.

Wider trousers are something I’ve got into recently. At first I was uncomfortable because it looked different. But they just make sense, especially post covid and lock down when clothes were about what was comfiest (and had the least stains on). I don’t need to be wearing something so uncomfortable and unflattering as skinny jeans anymore.

Love this video!! Something that made it easier for me to get into wider fitting pants was finding a specific look I really liked and would be excited to wear. I’ve always had a soft spot for Carhartt (my dad’s a blue collar worker so he’s always repped the brand 🔥) so I decided to get into workwear. I went thrifting and found two amazing pairs of double knee carpenter pants for like $30 or $40 each. I was sheepish trying them on so I got one pair tailored to better fit my body while still being a wide pair of pants. I fell in love with the pants immediately. Now I’m a lot more comfortable in wider fitting pants and am excited to wear the wide pairs of pants that I have. So yeah, I found thrifting and diving into workwear as a super budget friendly way to get into the oversized/wide pants look without breaking the bank :) off the top of my head, getting into gorpcore or vintage/dad-core might also be a good way to get into the look if Carhartt isn’t your thing. I guess minimalism too, or skater even

I'd recommend hemming the wide pants a little bit just so they don't graze the ground as much or go with a pant with adjustable ankle zipper or strap so they sit nicely above your trainers/kicks. Nosucism makes some fairly priced pants with zippered ankles & uniqlo does offer tailoring options for their pants if you like that high-water/exposed ankle look. That mud/sludge on the cuff brings on flashbacks to 90's raves where kids w/JNCO's would just end up mopping up what ever rave sludge was lying around the warehouse floor at the end of a party.

Those orange wide leg cargos are such an 🎶❤️🌈oldschool rave 🌈❤️🎶 vibe. Those gigantic Kikwear phatties in that meme would have worked in that era as well. You'd also see a lot of UFO dance pants too. Adidas Originals or Reebok Classics shoes, Gazelles, SuperStars, and Club C's were pretty popular. A tee with a track jacket or hoodie, brands like Adidas, Stussy, Freshjive, Snug Industries, etc. Or a DIY tie dyed D.A.R.E. t-shirt from Value Village worn ironically. Cartoon graphic tee and tons of kandi (DIY plastic bead jewelry), and a pacifier on the necklace if you want to commit to the full kandi kid aesthetic. Bonus points for including at least a little bit of white in the outfit for the blacklight/uv reactivity.

In my experience men styles default to wide everywhere, top to bottom. Whereas female styles go more after an A-line silhouette, which looks much better on men as well. If you have good thighs (cycling) and can keep your beer spoiler down and do go overboard on a quest for a nine-pack like Batman (ruining your waist silhouette), a ladies wide-leg can really make you shine as a man. As the butt and upperleg will look firm and well dressed, but you get more flow towards the ankles. they also have a higher waist, no more belt-stress to keep the pants on your butt. In a way, it is a bit like menswear in the 1920's, but without the pleads. Try a Lee Stella A-line or Levi's Ribcage and be amazed!

The other problem with wide pants is how it makes your body look. I used to be chonkier and I'm losing weight. If I put on wide pants, it makes me look like I put all that lost weight back on. Not a look I want to go for.

I don't necessarily think wider cuts make you look bigger than you are, particularly when paired up with some slimmer things or they have some shape down the leg. But I totally get that if you felt slim/tapered things weren't an option for you before you'd be more keen on opting for them now

@@ThisIsAntwon What do you recommend to help keep from looking chunky if you don’t already have a very slim frame to more easily pull off wide pants? Like the mid-sized/relaxed fit CP Company cargos?

I feel like my biggest problem with wide pants is finding a good pair to begin with that is ethical. Like I want to wear them so bad but I don't know where to look or where to start.

As someone who is very tall and has a thin/athletic build - I'll never be able to get into the wide-leg, baggy pants. Obviously not every body type looks the same in certain styles/sizes of clothing, and it's often a good bet to style your clothing in a way that fits well with or accentuates your own, unique physical features. Just because something is trending, it doesn't always mean it's right for you!

Very true! And often there are ways of engaging in popular stuff/trends in a way that works for you rather than buying stuff blindly. That said I still think wider cuts work on tall slim people. I'm 187cm for reference so very much above average height

I thought of tapering my wide fit pants recently, but the moment I reached my tailor. He told me that the cuts and the quality of these pants are very rich and you won't get such quality textiles nowadays. He asked me I really want to taper it. I dropped the idea

What bugs me the most, in the USA, is that here the “skinny ankle” despite the looser pant, in men’s wear, was never quite “mastered” in the sense of being popularised. Then I see the kids just give up and go back to the 90s because it’s easier to find something oversized vs have something , yes, “looser” in some or most areas of the body but more form fitting where one desires. But that’s kind of going full circle as to why this bothers me. I can say that I was a “casualty” of the 90’s baggy pants in North America, and I will speak for myself but this often meant wearing something that had nothing to do with my body at all. Neither complimenting it or focusing attention away from it, simply no connection to it in any way. I will say, as someone who works as an art class model, that the first article of clothing we put on is our naked body. Everything that follows is an accessory.

I'm gonna be honest I fundamentally disagree about the proportions thing. Its kinda contradictory tbh with the "he boot 2 big" thing which is the exact thing but giving emphasis on how big the shoes rather than the pants.
