Why you're already in a relationship with AI | Lee Yearsley | TEDxSydney

The evolution of AI is having a huge impact on our communities, cultures, and health. While many recognise the need for immediate action to curb some of the negative consequences of this technology - what solutions really exist that can reshape this technology to optimise for good? As an expert in the field, Lee Yearsly has grappled with the ethics and power of AI for decades, and believes there is real potential to develop new types of AI, if we re-imagine our relationship with the burgeoning technology. Not as a slave-master dynamic, but one more aligned to a child-parent model.
Lee (Liesl) Yearsley has been developing AI for 20 years and has 4 patents in the field, She was founder and CEO of an AI search engine that went public. She then co-founded an AI platform Cognea that was acquired by IBM. At the time of acquisition, Cognea was serving 6 fortune 100 companies and 26 000 developers, and handling 60 million interactions across financial services, insurance, health, social chat, media, metaverse, robotics etc
Yearsley is now CEO & founder of aKin, a Public Benefit AI company with its own foundation model. aKin AI are designed to be a true companion to humans and help us improve our lives, our society and our ecosystem. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Cultivating better AI requires us as humans to finally figure out which is the better method to use to raise something or someone, “Nature or nurture?” One wrong developer that thinks too extreme could quite literally spell the end of our society. I learned a lot here ngl.

Great speech. Very articulate, like most TED talks, but this video is self explanatory of why treating AI like a real life form is dangerous. I'll likely get banned for saying what I want to say, so I won't, but this video is so poetic.

We have replaced horses, machines have replaced humans before. But, none have replaced human brains and it's creativity. If that is replaced, then what's the purpose of humans and its society??

Oh, you bet I am already in a "relationship" with AI. It recently avoided me having to go into a lawsuit, because it allowed me access to the information regarding contract laws and thus argue forcefully and effectively with the contract breaching party. Whenever the other party tried to bullsh*t me, the AI cut through it like a knife through hot butter and I could react accordingly. I could lay out how devastating a lawsuit would be for the company and the CEOs and suddenly they were very coorporative. Without AI this would not have been possible, since I am not a law expert.
