I just rewatched the show for the third time last night. Best show I've seen recently. Kipo is such a sweet character.

Kipo's radical kindness and naivety are her greatest strengths. As a sensitive person, that's so inspiring to see. I've never been so inspired by a show before.

Listening to the main theme and seeing the stunning visuals, it makes me think someone just fell asleep listening to lofi beats to relax/study to and then wrote down the awesome dream they had when they woke up. I’m in!

There's a part where the story could have had a big conflict between Kipo and Wolf but the way she reacts instead, I thought was incredibly touching and so much better than the more typical confrontation narratives usually default to in similar situations.

Yes!!! I know exactly what scene you mean! I was so scared that this would end in this cliche were they fight because of it, because i find that trope so annoying! And it was so refreshing to see that Kipo was so understanding and that this conflict wasn't streched unnecessarily. I mean thay have this conflict later with wolf, were they part ways, but it just feels natural because you can understand WHY Wolf acts like that! So yeah! Truly an awsome show!

God this is such a good show. I’m a little surprised that it doesn’t have a huge internet fandom somewhere (idk maybe it does i havent looked too hard), but also i guess that’s ultimately a good thing lol, fandoms often have an affect on the perception of the show overall and so far Kipo seems to be not very well known. Thank you for making this video I’d love to see this show run for a long time!

I am watching kipo for the 3rd time- I just love the plot and characters! I love watching (spoiler alert) the episode "the goat cheese proficy" just **goats making cheese noises**

I'm sold! I just finished She-Ra so hearing Karen Fukuhura again will be nice 🥰

I love the way the producters put two lesbians stereotypes on the same mute: cats and checkered shirts 🥰

I'm not one to gush normally but I freaking loved that show so damn much. It's been ages since I've watched anything animated that clicked with me but I couldn't get enough of this show. Hope this gets some traction with people it really deserves it! Great analysis of the show Riley, maybe a tad spoilery for my tastes if I'm honest but I'd watched it all so just enjoyed hearing your love for it too.

I really enjoyed this show, i hope they get to make more its got a Lot of potential!

Dragon Prince and Kipo have similar vibes for me. Lots of nuance to the characters, great redemption arcs, a focus on friendship. So wonderful!

What always got me is that every time I expect to see that cliche where the main characters have drama because one of them refuse to tell the other something, its just...not that. They actively communicate with each other and even when they don't the tension doesn't last long because they communicate it BETTER. The fact that Kipo is so amazingly compassionate and caring that she understands and forgives others so easily that everyone around can't help but love her just a little

4:50 THAT SCENE IS SO HEART-TOUCHING. It makes me feel sad. Imagine being accepted as a member of the pack and, in the end, the Alpha She-wolf says: 'Bitch... Xue Hua Piao Piao Bei Feng Shiou Shiou' :'(

@@RileyJayDennis It just hits every single right note!!! (In both senses :P) Literally, when you put on that tiny bit of "What we have is you" I immediately teared up! I got the playlist on Spotify and I just J A M to it so often :V Also, I wondered if you were gonna mention the fact that Benson is gay, because that moment actually made me love the show even more, just due to every single element of the scene (You've already made a great note on it so I won't ramble) Goddamn, the finale just made me EVEN more hyped about seeing more of this show. ;o;

I've binged this show at least 3 times. It's sublime. Thank you bringing up the music, it is worth mentioning. The music, my God, the music is an absolute banger from start to finish. Each track exactly as long as it needs to be to make the point, then move on. The Newton Wolves episode is the best episode in my opinion, and what solidified my desire to keep watching. The GZA as Billions, and the Old Dirty Bastard/Old Dirty Billions reference was absolutely incredibly well done. I was like 'You did NOT just make a Wu Tang clan reference AND have a member of the Wu Tang voice a character IN A KIDS SHOW." But yes, yes they did. That was episode 4. That was episode that sold me to keep watching. Each episode is superlatively paced, swift and concise with zero filler, yet without feeling too short. To paraphrase Gandalf: "It is not too long, nor is it too short. It is as precisely as long as it means to." Of note, Kipo is voiced by the person who voiced Glimmer in She-Ra, and made her live action debut as Katana in Suicide Squad. Sterling K Brown voices her father Lio, and this man does not disappoint. Go onto his wiki page. Most actors have a section at the bottom where they list the awards they have won. This guy has his own PAGE devoted to the awards and nominations. He is an absolute feast for the ears, and is very believable. Minor character Yumyan Hammerpaw is voiced by the incomparable Steve Blum. Now, if you've played any video game at all in say, the past 15 years, there's a solid chance you've heard his work in it. He holds the Guinness Record for most appearances in video games. Let's face it, at this point, the man is so recognizable, he's Steve Blum playing Steven Blum no matter what character he voices. All in all, a superb, raucous, roller coaster that is a treat for the senses. Overall, I'd rank higher than She-Ra, which had a couple of stinkers of episodes due to the longer format. If She-Ra is an 8/10, Kipo is a 9/10. An absolute must see.

My favorite thing about the show is how it makes a point to not villainize science. [late season 1, maybe early season 2 spoiler] When Kipo discovers her parents tampered with her genes, I was worried she would do the typical "I'm an abomination" or "science has meddles with forces beyond our understanding" reaction. Instead, she thinks it's the coolest thing in the world. It was so refreshing to see a character take that kind of news in stride.

Since they've announced season 2 tho, I've seen it everywhere, KZread recommends me new videos about it everyday. Hopefully this will mean, we'll get to see more of it :D

Personally, I liked how Kipo's wanting to befriend every enemy was handled. Often times, cartoons that try to have a pacifistic main character (Steven Universe and Avatar: The Last Airbender come to mind) have a problem in that there's some sort of Big Bad that they have to defeat (Steven Universe has the Diamonds, ATLA has Lord Ozai and Azula, etc). They usually accomplish this goal through some pacifist way. While it is great to send the message that violence shouldn't be the answer, it isn't always realistic. The ways they beat the Big Bad feel sort of like deus ex machinas, and Steven Universe has even gotten some criticism for redeeming every villain. Here, Kipo's relentless friendliness can be both a strength (she befriends most of the mutes and even gets a few to change their ways) and a weakness (her trying to befriend Scarlemagne almost got everyone killed). The show has characters that, despite Kipo's optimism, can't be redeemed. Still, the characters that she does befriend become strong allies that help her turn the tables in a fight (Mulholland might be one of my new favorite animated characters, period).

With She-Ra's ending, almost all of the animated show I watch already ended, so I was really looking out for something new that would really catch me eye, and it seems like this will be that show, I'm totally watching it after this

Being Korean, I felt a wow moment finding out Kipo is Korean. It’s my favorite show of the last decade!

I watched it because it was recommended by Netflix and I was drawn to the character designs. I'm glad, cause I loved this show so much, and a lot of it has to do with what you describe: it's fun and a different take on the post-apocalypse, full of color and wonder. The surface world is dangerous but it's also beautiful

yess i watched it all in a couple of days. i was hooked from the first two episodes, but starting episode 3 (timbercats) i felt like the show was more geared towards kids. still liked it though

I love this show so much! I watches it with my younger sibling all in one night because we couldn't stand to stop, and then when it ended I was like "really, already??" So excited about the next season! I actually watched it three times over the course of a month or two, partly because it's just that good and partly because I get nervous about Netflix canceling the things I like and want to do my part to drive up the number of views. So I'm really relieved it got announced cause this show absolutely deserved its second season!

I binge watched both seasons with my little brother and we only just finished yesterday. I can't wait to see what they do with season 3, the world they've created is so fascinating and I love every single character. It's such a great show and I'm so glad you're talking about it 😭💖

You convinced me to watch She-Ra and it was amazing! So, I took your advice and watched Kipo. Holy crap, I watched both seasons in a day! Thank you so much! I think what we’re seeing in both of these series is what happens when you’re creative team is freed to tell great stories, without the merchandising incentive that ruled my ‘80’s childhood. It warms my heart and I wish we could’ve gotten here sooner - that the direct marketing to children machine hadn’t been given the teeth it had when I was a kid. I can’t wait for my kid to understand language and empathy, so I can show them these shows. Hell, I can’t wait to see what comes next. Thank you!

I agree so much! Kipo is just a fun story which can guide the viewers to explore how they think about the world- and how optimism and pessimism are important for different reasons. My only (and biggest) critique of the show is how Kipo is purple. I know its plot relevant, and is sort of made up for in knowing who her two parents are. But it felt like a similar situation She Ra finds itself in: you can be as diverse as you want but you still couldn't make the main character so explicitly Black. It's a let down because theres a notable difference in a child seeing an explicitly Black kid (like Wolf/Benson, Craig, Penny Proud, Doc McStuffins even) and a racially ambiguous kid (Kipo, Catra and others in She Ra, Steven Universe gems, etc). Like we're missing out on just having a really cool and interesting Black friend group. Nonetheless I love Kipo with my entire heart!

I just finished She Ra and was looking for another show to watch this weekend. And now I have one, I'll be watching Kipo this weekend.

Fun fact the voice actor for kipo is actually the same voice actor as glimmer in She-Ra and the princesses of power. When I first noticed I just close my eyes and listen to kipo and i was so confused cuz I couldn't tell whether it was glimmer or kipo

Now that season 2 has come out, I'm gonna go ahead and say Kipo is 100% a top tier animated series.

As someone whose a fan of The Walking Dead and Fallout, it’s refreshing to see this show takes it’s setting vibrantly. However Solidarity is a usual theme that appears in Post-Apocalyptic media. Due to loss of the usual civilizations of humanity, people naturally make attempts to regroup and repopulate. And Post-apocalypse’s are ripe in ways to explore society and the questions of ethics that come with it. Kippo’s consistent in its moral statement that sticking together is the best action to take. The whole inciting incident of Kippo is our main girl being separated from her people. Unlike the show The Walking Dead and the game series of Fallout. It doesn’t ask the gritty questions of the how and the why of when people stay together. Kippo is just firm in teamwork and the strength that comes in people standing side by side.

The best thing with the comic relief characters is that they aren’t annoying or too childish which a lot of comic relief characters fall into that trap

loved it Alice in wounderland meets adventuretime meets something entirely new, And its actually wholesome family entertainment

I appreciate the irony that Kipo and everyone else who's lived in burrows for their whole lives have a better understanding of the real world than everyone on the surface, like that does makes sense. The last survivors of humanity would try to preserve their old culture for as long as possible

Its some of the best in a cartoon that I've watched in a long time

I'd like to watch it, but I'd rather watch it when it wraps up or when it is on the verge of wrapping up.

Amazing show start to finish. I was so satisfied at the end. I can't believe all 3 seasons were released this year. How? Or more likely, why are other shows so slow? Hahha.
