I appreciate and agree with most of your teaching. And I’m grateful that you said someone can be filled with the Spirit and not speak in tongues. However, to say that they just haven’t yielded to it is ignorant to the true heart of the Holy Spirit. And it’s arrogant for those who do to believe it. Teaching that encourages Christians to think that those who speak in tongues are “more” spiritual. Or “more” yielding is ABUSE. I grew up in this movement. I am and was fully devoted to God and His Spirit. I have been anointed with oil, hands laid on, surrendered etc. and yet I could never speak in tongues. As a young person this made me doubt my salvation, my dedication and God’s love for me. I ended up faking it for many years to “fit in”. Only to feel the guilt and shame of it. Causing me to leave the church. Later returning to my first love (Jesus) and dedicating myself fully to him. I know that the Holy Spirit fully lives in me, works through me and is using me greatly right now to teach others how to understand the Bible. Something only the Holy Spirit could do with my reading disabilities and handicaps. I do believe if ever I was in a situation that I needed another language to teach someone the Gospel or for a life or death situation, I know the Spirit would give me that gift. But for now, maybe he didn’t give it to me so I can stand up and say, “EVEN IF YOU HAVEN’T SPOKE IN TONGUES IT DOES NOT MEAN HE LOVES YOU ANY LESS. AND IT DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE ANY LESS SPIRITUAL OR ANY LESS YIELDING TO HIM. IT COULD JUST MEAN THAT HE HAS ANOTHER GIFT HE IS USING YOU IN. I’m pretty sure someone needed to hear that. I sure did, many many years ago. Be careful. Souls are on the line. ❤ And like I said. I do love your teaching. I do appreciate all you do to encourage us. God bless! -Christa

Speaking in toungues just means speaking in other languages. Be careful not to fall into false doctrine. The bible says not everyone will receive this gift and it's meant with interpretation. Read 1 Corinthians chapter 14. It explains it. Especially if you read it in the language Jesus spoke Aramaic

Not everyone gets the same gifts . “To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭12‬:‭7‬-‭11‬ ‭

Speaking in tongues is a gift. I believe once you accept Jesus into your life and have been baptized and saved the the Holy Ghost is within us. Yes we can pray and wholeheartedly ask God for the gift of speaking in tongues but today it’s like speaking in tongues is more top tier and people want to show just how spiritual they are over people who do not have the gift. But the Bible tells us that being able to prophecy is above all. This subject shouldn’t be this hard and cause division.

Exactly and I don't think you need any kind of special obedience to receive the gift of speaking in tongues. You just need to believe and ask the Father cause it is the Holy Spirit that worketh obedience in us. Just saying. Cause for me and even my siblings and most people I know in our church, we were told to believe we were prayed for and we received the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues.

Your confusing the gift of diverse types of tongues with speaking in tongues. Tongues is not a gift, it’s a sign that the Holy Ghost has come upon you. The gift of diverse type of tongues is a gift of that same spirit. Acts 10:44-46 (KJV) 44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. 45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 (KJV) 4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

Counting the omer as all observant Jews do (also in those days), the disciples understood that Passover only ends after 49 days, hence their obedience. To suggest that Jesus/ Yeshua spoke to 500 and that all but 120 got tired "of waiting" is to ADD to Scripture.

Its so sad that this topic has caused so much division in the Body of Christ. Sigh. I can definitely say that I have experienced a deeper level of intimacy when I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit but I still have to study the Word, pray, worship, check my motives and just generally focus on intimacy with God and obey Him etc. It's an entire package. We are blessed with all spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus. I have to admit, though, that after 13 years as Christian, I never harnessed the gift of tongues, though I had it the whole time. I began praying increasingly in tongues up to an hour or more a day and my life transformed. The proof of the pudding is in the eating as they say. And no, I dont think i am more spiritual. Itjust more helpful

The only sign given in scripture that believers had recieved the Holy Spirit when they recieved is the speaking in " tongues" which is one spiritual language.( Acts ch.2,10,and ch.19) The gift of speaking in " tongues" is a different operation of the Holy Spirit than the initial evidence. This is because It must be accompanied by a believer with the gift of interpretation of " tongues" so that all in a church assembly may be edified not just the individual believer.

Will I get new words on the same language?

How do we know that we are children of God and are filled with the Holy Spirit and why is it so important to personally read and study the Bible? Because the Bible warns us about false prophets and teachers. Satan can counterfeit the gifts of the spirit and distort everything that is written in the Bible. We Christians must put all our trust in the word of God and not add or subtract anything from what is written: "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them." (Isaiah 8:20) So, how do we know that we are children of God and are filled with the Holy Spirit? 1= If we have the fruit of the spirit - which is the same as the character of Jesus Christ: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (Gal 5:22,23) 2= If we love God and have a longing and desire to obey God: "He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him." (John 14:21) Skicka

What do you say to this John? Can you help me understand? “For God is not the author of confusion but of peace” (1 Corinthians 14:33, NKJV). The context of 1 Corinthians 14 deals with some problems the Corinthians had regarding speaking in tongues and prophesying during the gathering of believers for worship, prayer, and teaching-what we would today call the “church service.” Things had been getting out of hand in Corinth. When the church met, people were speaking in tongues with no one interpreting, and more than one person was prophesying at the same time. Pandemonium and chaos were the result. Paul says that this babble-this confusion-is neither proper nor beneficial in the church, and he gives some practical life examples: “Even in the case of lifeless things that make sounds, such as the pipe or harp, how will anyone know what tune is being played unless there is a distinction in the notes? Again, if the trumpet does not sound a clear call, who will get ready for battle? Unless you speak intelligible words with your tongue, how will anyone know what you are saying?” (1 Corinthians 14:7-9). Then Paul makes application: “So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and inquirers or unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind?” (verse 23). Or, as the NLT puts it, “If unbelievers . . . hear everyone speaking in an unknown language, they will think you are crazy.” God is not the author of such confusion.

I think Speaking Tongue should not be emphasized like that. If it was an important item which, like some people say, everyone should have, Paul would have given it as a top of the gift list. He gives Tongue at the end of the list. People who speak in tongues are not able to interpret, and yet keep ‘chanting’ like they are truly ‘selected’, and make other believers who do not have gift of tongue, very uncomfortable. As Apostle Paul mentions it is nothing but “noisy gong or a clanging cymbal”.

Every example of speaking in tongues I have seen (as far as a heavenly language is concerned) it sounds like the person speaking, is just making stuff up (it doesn't sound like a language) and the interpretation is standard bible content (God loves you. Follow God). Similarly, it is always a positive messages. Which seems odd. If God were going to send a special message, why not say something specific or give a warning? Why just butcher an existing bible verse? I am not asking to try to make fun of you. I am just wondering in an honest fashion.

It is a heavenly language unknown to man. Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. ‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭14‬:‭1‬-‭4‬

From Vlad Savchuk’s website, an article called “Three Types of Tongues Every Christian Should Know”: “When it comes to the gift of tongues, what becomes apparent as we read the Scriptures is that there are various expressions of the gift. I like to refer to these expressions of the gift of tongues as the personal tongue, the proof tongue, and the prophetic tongue. Now these terms are not in the Bible, just as you won’t find the term “trinity” in the Bible, yet we know that it is a foundational truth in Scripture. In the same way, I am using these terms to simply embolden the distinctions between the expressions that the Bible shows us very clearly. Read: How to Speak in Tongues 1. The Personal Tongue In 1 Corinthians 14:1-4, Apostle Paul talks about the strengthening that happens personally when speaking in tongues. Now, oftentimes people will misread this portion of Scripture and believe that Paul is condemning the gift of tongues. Not at all. He is not condemning the gift of tongues, he is comparing this gift to the gift of prophecy. He’s not saying that praying in tongues is bad, but that prophesying is better. Why? Because specifically in a church setting, it’s better to do something that edifies the group as a whole rather than it is to do something that only edifies an individual. In mentioning this truth, Paul also reveals the fact that when an individual prays, they are also edified and strengthened personally (1 Corinthians 14:4). 2. The Proof Tongue In Acts 2:4-6, we see that those in the Upper Room began to speak in other tongues. Those who heard them could understand them in their own language. I’ve done some study on the subject to find out whether they were speaking in the listener’s actual languages, or if the Holy Spirit, by supernatural intervention, was interpreting the gift of tongues on the listener’s end. The Bible doesn’t tell us whether or not the believers were speaking in those languages, or if the people were hearing them in those languages. All we know is that there was a supernatural element being proven to the listener. This tongue is spoken aloud but heard in another language. People will often take this verse in Acts and say that this is the only gift of tongues. However, this couldn’t be the case considering 1 Corinthians 14:1-4 speaks about a tongue that no man can understand only God. That could only be describing a heavenly language. This expression of the gift is meant to benefit the unbeliever (1 Corinthians 14:22). 3. The Prophetic Tongue We see the mention of this expression in 1 Corinthians 14:26-28. The prophetic expression of the gift of tongues is exercised in the assembly of believers who’ve gathered for the purpose of being edified. For instance, in a church setting an individual will stand up and pray in tongues and then another will stand up and provide the interpretation of what was being spoken. This is the prophetic tongue, which is used to benefit the church (1 Corinthians 12:7; 14:26). The Differences Between The Expressions These three different expressions are described in their function in three different ways entirely throughout Scripture. Although these are the same gift, they are not the same expressions because they benefit differently: The Personal Tongue: Benefits the individual (1 Corinthians 14:4). The Proof Tongue: Benefits the unbeliever ( 1 Corinthians 14:22). The Prophetic Tongue: Benefits the church (1 Corinthians 12:7; 14:26). Not only do we see differences of benefit made in Scripture, but we also see the differences in interpretation requirements: The Personal Tongue: Requires no interpretation or interpreter in order to be beneficial to the individual (1 Corinthians 14:4). The Proof Tongue: Requires no interpreter for the interpretation to be understood by the unbeliever (Acts 2:8). The Prophetic Tongue: Requires an interpreter in order to benefit the church (1 Corinthians 14:26). Here is one more line of distinction between the three expressions. This is based on how they are understood: The Personal Tongue: Is understood by no one but God (1 Corinthians 14:2). The Proof Tongue: Is supernaturally understood by the unbeliever (Acts 2:8). The Prophetic Tongue: Is understood by the church with the aid of an interpreter (1 Corinthians 14:27). Final Thoughts Why would the Holy Spirit pour out a gift publicly that was only meant to be used privately? - David Diga These are the three expressions of the gift of speaking in tongues. The confusion can be clarified once you see these different expressions in Paul’s writings. Paul wasn’t putting a restriction on the expression of the gift, but rather on the prophetic expression of it.”

Dear JOHN BEVERE…PLEASE TELL ME, “WHAT DOES “SPEAKING IN TONGUES” HAVE TO DO WITH EDIFYING THE (WHOLE) “BODY OF CHRIST”??? Have read 1 Corinthians 12, 13, 14?? Do you understand that every spiritual gift is given for the “building up” or edifying of the WHOLE BODY?? (I mean the WHOLE BODY OF CHRIST, where YOU worship, learn, grow, fellowship, share your gift, NOT THE WORLD’S “WHOLE BODY”, because, my friend, THAT WOULD DEFEAT THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF BEING PART OF A GROWING AND PERSONALLY EXPERIENCING THE CLOSE, LOVE, AND FRIENDSHIP of people you see and spend time with regularly, day by day, and storm by storm.) SPEAKING “in tongues” only “edifies” and individual doing it in prayer alone, OR, in CHURCH, WITH INTERPRETERS!! If you have NO interpreters, how can the group of present believers be “edified”?? PLEASE STUDY.

Your convoluting scripture you take one verse and make a religion! There is no such thing as private prayer language, nor heavenly language… at least for now! With stammering lips other tongues/languages bring the message! The Jews, being the chosen ones, never wanted to except the word, and they wanted signs! In Acts all three events were for the Jews, to be convinced that the word would be spread out in the other tongues/languages. Paul wished everybody spoke in tongues to spread the word but not all would be preachers! He didn’t pray in his closet more than than everyone else but he could speak more tongues/languages, and take the word out more than others! He wasn’t keeping the score, praying more than others in his closet! And Jesus will have a name on his forehead that only he knows ,,, and the name will be the Word of God. R19:13 How do you get heavenly language out of that verse? Charismatics had come up with 2 tongues/languages, private prayer tongue/language, unknown tongue/language heavenly tongue/language, tongues/languages of angels,,,ect as a sign & diversity of tongues/languages! But you even stretched it further four kinds of tongues/languages? Experiences don’t trump scripture! Signs are for Jews the unbelieving! They always needed signs! 1Corin1:22 The lady speaking French nor you in English we’re going to reveal something that’s not written in the Bible! You’re teaching Divination! She guessed what you were going to preach! It seems you have to have that power the mystique! But the truth is… when the Spirt of TRUTH comes it’ll lead you to all truth.J16:13 It will not testify of itself. It can only testify of Jesus Christ! So why can’t the language you speak be sufficient! Or is it that God understands an unknown tongue/language better?! 2 Thessalonians 2:9 ..beware the anti-Christ will do Wonders & Sings too!

Apparently John has never read 1 Corinthians 12 where Paul explicitly says we're each given gifts according to the will of the Spirit and not all of us will speak in tongues. Charismatics are guilty of exactly what Paul was writing about in Corinthians: highlighting a specific public gift for sanctimonious reasons. Tongues doesn't even make the top 5 according to Paul's list in verses 28-30 but somehow you've managed to make it a gateway to the other gifts and given it the ability to more quickly or easily sanctify which is not its function at all - that is nowhere in scripture! Stop it! You're burdening people with false doctrine. You do not NEED to speak in tongues and most probably won't. Be grateful for the gifts the Spirit chooses to give you and serve God with joy in your calling.
