WHY YOU NEED TO DO A BIG 3 UPGRADE! WITH JOHNATHAN PRICE

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We all want to push our systes as far as they can go, however, those who have been in the game long enough know that you have to crawl before you walk. Its not enough to just buy high powered subs and amps without the proper equipment needed to run those high powered products. A Big 3 upgrade is the industry standard way of producing more power in your system.
In this video, JP goes over everything Big 3 Upgrade. The what, the why, and the when whill all be exlained in this video.

@THELIFEOFPRICE I'd also mention that if the alternator doesn't have a ground post that indicates it's grounded to the engine block through its casing. Therefore you can use any mounting bolt on the block as source to upgrade the alternator's ground. Also, there should always be 2 grounds for an alternator, 1 from battery to block, and 1 from block to chassis. The chassis ground assists the uncharged ions from all the electronics in the vehicle to get back to the alternator to be recharged into electrons and the battery to block ground assists in better charging of the battery itself. Hope this helps 👍 keep up the hard work you've been an inspiration for me since the beginning and I love watching you continue to grow in the industry 👏✊

@@standhd because you commented on a comment that didn't have any substance. The big 3 is mainly for high output alternators and vehicles that have piss poor wiring(like chebby trucks and suvs) thin wiring or deteriorating grounds (like braided ground straps that are old and many strands broken) Ford usually has very adequate wiring for FACTORY charging systems and use braided strapping on the hood and trunk lid(obviously not applicable in your F150. Depending on year and overall plan you might want to run grounding through the actual frame which would be "the big 4".

You are correct....The Big 4 will be motor to frame or frame to body for vehicles with body on frame.. obviously. I personally run alt case to batt - and chassis to batt - (in my case the "Batt" is a cap bank but tomoto. He really didn't list the big 3 very clear, he side tracked and should have shown on a stock vehicle or not one with I don't even know the mess he had going in that. There is certainly no over doing it per se' but there is a point where you are pissing money away and nothing against him but he hit that especially with neohoe if he is running 20 runs that's enough for 15 400a alts which I'm pretty sure almost any engine would just go nope and shut off from that drag lol

I many if one run of 1/0 is expensive to do, I can just imagine how much money you invested in all those runs of 1/0 cables!!! I would assume that one run of 1/0 would do the job just fine is that correct??? Or was that just your personal preference to do??? As far as the in line fuse between the alternator and the battery most car audio shops highly recommend it to prevent any kind of shorts or anything catching on fire in any situation!!! Or are those just excuses that the shops use to sell people extra car audio equipment JP???

A fuse is personal preference really, but they are "fused" from the factory, usually. Some are a actual fuse or fusible link which is built in the wire . The issue I see with fusing the alt to batt wire is you really would need to fuse right at the alt AND right at the battery because that wire is going to be hot on either side of the wire as long as the engine is running

  • @verardodelia

    @verardodelia

    4 ай бұрын

@@commonsenseisdeadin2024 Those "personal prefrence" fuses only cause more hazzards from all those extra terminals & splices that need to be made for them. All high current electrical connections expand & contract enough over time to where they become loose, that creates resistance & heat. The small gaps in the connections cause the arc that will cook your wire until its dark & frail.

Yes. That's what you want to do. Your amp ground should be as close as possible to your amp. You shouldn't run a ground from your battery through your vehicle to your amp. That is way too far. Byou would need much larger wire to prevent melting it depending on amp size.

I just repleaced my 02 escalade 6.0 alternator with another stock 130A because it was already going bad and the battery since the battery was on its way out too after getting it checked holding at 12.7v, then installed a new refrub one from Advanced auto" and the new battery and all of a sudden i get low volt readings when driving more spirited and heavy acceleration, but when i drive nromal its goes away?! I just bought a new 250A and the zero gauage fuse/wire kit From POWER BASTARDS, and just curious if you know exactly how to install the wiring? its used the stock plug for the regulator stocket and i told told by PB that to stack the new zero gauge terminal then bolt both in charging post screw and put the other terminal to the positive battery after splicing the wire and conneting it to the inclosed 50A fuse tube on each ends about a foot from the battery? does that sound pretty accurate or close to something youve done before? And would i have to replace my belt too since i just replace the drive belt last year. Any info would greatly help me out, if you're able to provide. thanks

Considering JP runs the most powerful system on the planet on doesn't feel the need, seems like it's money well wasted. If it were a safety issue, there'd already be a fuse on the factory wiring. Considering literally hundreds of millions of cars have been made, for public consumption for over 100 years, and still no fuse! It's definitely not needed. Maybe we should put a fuse for every two feet of power wire in your car, for all the power wires. It's paranoia is what it is.

Question, do you have to run the ground wire from the battery to the chassis exactly where the factory one is doing the BIG THREE or can you ground it anywhere on the chassis, because mine is very difficult to get to but there's a hole about 5 inches from the factory hole on the chassis that is easy to get to.

Bit late to reply but you absolutely can! Any larger wiring helps with current flow and in turn results in less resistance for your charging system. In most cases you’ll get 10 - 15% extra out of your factory alt. Even JP says it at 0:59 It’s worth doing on a factory alt because if you need to upgrade the alternator later down the line you already have the wiring to do so :)

DO NOT USE CCA (copper clad aluminum) cables for any of this. Only use pure copper (best) or even better tinned copper (bester) cca cable gets hotter and flows less electricity by approximately 25%

Remember kids always make sure you trickle charge your batteries as well to make sure they are fully charged because the alternator is not going to fully charge your battery is only job is to maintain the battery but the less charge a battery has the harder the alternator has to work to keep up with the lower Charged battery robbing you of precious amps that you need for your amplifier

It can be done, but it's not necessary. The more breaks in the wire run the more energy bottle necks that occur when trying to feed the accessory batteries and amps. I used to use an isolatator when i first built my system, but later eliminated it and everything runs perfectly fine without it.
