One of my biggest mistakes was buying items that are too similar. I'll just end up wearing the "better" one all the time while the other one gathers dust in the back of the closet. An example is jeans with a very similar wash and fit. Or a leather jacket in a similar material and fit. One of the two will fit and look better and I'll regret buying the other.

My best tip to avoid impulse buys you regret is browse when you don't have money. Give yourself a couple of days - a week to think about whatever you want before you can actually buy it. I guess it's kind of the same as making a wishlist, a wishlist just doesn't work as well for me because I'm rarely after specific items. I'm more like "I need a blue sweatshirt" and then I'll just browse for that until I find the one I like most and buy that. Leads in to, don't get too attached to specific pieces. You just gets sad when it's sold out or don't live up to the dreams of how great it would be you had. Figure out what you need for your wardrobe by category and not by specific pieces. For example a blue sweatshirt.. There's probably 100's of nice blue sweatshirts out there. No reason to get overly attached to one. The same with brands. There's a bunch of brands I'd like to own something from, but don't just buy whatever because it's that brand. Figure out what you really want from that brand. And if you don't get the item, it wasn't meant to be. It's just clothes.

It is a great tip for saving the penny's. Terrible habit I know but hard to break.

Agree with your point about not getting sucked into buying more by social media. It can be really suffocating when you go on Instagram and see reels and posts from influencers with new clothes all the time. Sitting on purchases really makes a lot of difference. I go for stuff I think I'll appreciate a year from now over stuff that's gonna activate a few more neurons immediately. It makes me buy way less but allows me to buy nicer stuff when I do, and waiting it out gives me time to consider if the purchase is filling a hole in the wardrobe or just an impulse.

Usually, if I can agree to wait that long to buy something then I probably don't need/want it. I'm definitely guilty of that Backups sin 😂 I bought an oversized white sweater with a gorilla with a bucket hat on and I thought it was the coolest ever so I bought another one and a matching tshirt and now whenever I see it I'm like "What was I think?!🤦🏻‍♂️" 😂

another thing that I feel with backups it's that when you buy the same item but in two different colours(not basics, let say a varsity jacket, one red and another green but the same one) you end up using it less because you find it the same regardless of the color

I totally agree with what you said. For me one of the mistakes I make is buying clothes that don't fit me entirely. I'm supper skinny and most of the trousers are either too long or too wide. But when they're affordable, I end up buying them just because they're cheap. Also, whenever I go to a store I end up buying something I might not want due to pressure of staff or some other phenomenons. Shopping online is better, even though you cannot try everything on.

Thanks for this helpful video. As I was watching it, I realised I shared a lot of your ethos when it comes to building a wardrobe (e.g. investing in quality, focusing more on neutrals and less on flashy/statement pieces, etc.). Based on your last tip on selling off unwanted pieces, are there any selling platforms that you recommend using - specifically if you're based in the UK?

Glad you liked it. I use Depop and EBay. Vinted is another good option too.

For my case, I'm a teenager who just got into fashion last year and I'm still forced to keep the same clothes from 2 years ago bought by my parents. I have literally no white or black T-shirts, or even a light wash jean just to tell you of my situation.

I’ll take pic of the item and cycle thru them for about 3weeks. Delete as I go, it’s like window shopping. Get to one or two and make a decision then sometimes I’ll be over it all by the end. Or one will make the team. It’s been working for me, taking a pic saves on data usage for me. Anyway good morning compadres, Salute!

I sort of disagree with the statement pieces bit but there certainly is truth to your point. I find that having a variety of versatility works, but I do have the issue of like, certain things you just cant pair with other things which is were the neutrals come in like you said.

Great videos..Im also a personal stylist. Thursday Boots is still the best simple bang for your buck piece May 2023! As a professional, Im still baffled by this. Holds up well, Still.. smart, buy less-buy well style. Please Test this hypothesis thoroughly . Maybe 20 years down the road, i won't love them. Thank you.

I have two sweatshirts from Ami Paris that i absolutely love, but they are quite expensive and I unfortunately haven't found a brand that makes hoodies and sweatshirts the same way as Ami, so I would love to see a video with some minimalistic high-quality alternatives to Ami
