My friend had a client with naturally pitch black hair. She told her it would take 2 to 3 sessions to go blonde and explained that her hair would look brassy after the 1st but they'd fix it on the 2nd. The girl panicked after the 1st session and went to another stylist to try and lighten it the next day. The stylist ruiner her hair smd my friend was pissed at her client, she didn't take her back.

My sister is a stylist. My natural color is a strawberry brownish, with natural highlights. It's absolutely beautiful, just not on me. I decided to go platinum. It took us 3 sessions to lighten and tone me to where I wanted to be. After the first session, my hair was still brown. I utterly hated it. The second time took me to blonde, but I still wasn't the icy silver i wanted. We toned it again, and it came out beautifully. Trust your stylist and trust the process

When I have my natural color (dark golden brown), sometimes I'll go get highlights. The last time they started at the crown & I told them "That's going to be white by the time you get midpoint. My hair takes coloring very well." They didn't believe me, but I insisted they check. They did & yes, the highlights were platinum. They had to wash it out & I held a towel to my face while they finished the back.

I asked if it was safe/possible to go platinum since it was my first time (they said yes), they did not do a strand test, and I had to regrow all my chest-length hair from scratch due to awful breakage. Oof yeah. My mum is a hairdresser and says new people always need a strand test and you never do more than one round of bleach or colour remover in a day and never trust anyone that tells you they can take your dark hair to platinum in one go. She's had to try and fix a lot of other peoples mistakes which in a couple of cases has included just cutting off the most damaged parts because they were too brittle to do anything else with. Oh she also says don't go swimming with freshly bleached hair. It will turn green from the chlorine.

My best friend is an Aveda stylist and just did a major color correction on my hair. After 10+ years of dark ruby red Féria box dye layered onto my naturally ash blonde mid back length hair, he was able to get me to a gorgeous level 8-9 mushroom blonde with only 10 vol. My hair was so still so brassy towards the ends after lightening, I don’t know what kind of sorcery he did to get it so ashy in the toning process. The man is a magician.

Madison Reed tends to be darker than other dyes in my experience. They label their level 6 browns as medium browns. Their color does lift evenly, though. I did some highlights over a level 5 color, and the results were nice. I think it is because they encourage you to use a gloss on the lengths instead of pulling permanent color through to your ends when you are doing root touchups. I am not a stylist, just a consumer.

Actually thinking about it, i went platinum twice. Once by a professional stylist and the 2nd time accidentally when bleaching my hair at home because i was bored and covid was a thing so nobody was gonna see my hair anyway. I wanted it to come out yellow so i could coat it in green and get a brighter green color, but it came out WHITE BLONDE after only 30 minutes of processing with a shower cap on..... So i scrapped my green plans and went with blue again.

Growth (roots) always lifts better, so if your hair is under a few inches, it takes a looot less to do it. You can see in this video where there's the space between the scalp and where she lifted didn't have anything applied, and the same if you watch any other lifting videos. You always have to do the lengths first and then hit the growth, because otherwise you'll have a super uneven lift that was stronger for the growth than the length. But it does also depend on your hair texture, if it's virgin or has been colored with box dye or professionally dyed, how healthy it is. It's chemistry and art, so *everything* matters 😂

I was able to go platinum in one day but I already had previous lightening. Balayage and highlights. Then I let my hair grow out for about 6 months and did my own retouch. It came out platinum and I just had to even out the ends. All in one session, but kinda not really. Blonde takes time and patience to get the right shade

I had a hairdresser so my hair when I was around 15 or 16, I have chestnut brown hair and my hair are very sensitive. I wanted a red ombre and so she bleached half my hair, my hair was DESTROYED after. I still go the ombre and it looked good, but my hair were actual hay.

I lifted my hair to platinum in one ish setting, no damage, from a natural 2-3 to level 7-8, then to 9 with a toner. However I used a level 15 developer mixed with conditioner and let it sit for a few hours, instead of a high developer. I maintained that blonde for 2 years with minimal damage except my obsession with flat irons at max heat back in the day. It can be done, but we also did regular tests throughout the process to ensure my hair was holding up. It can be done, but I definitely wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re willing to do all the work.

Actually If you mix 2 drops of intense ash hair dye in with the bleach and apply as normal in foil, it will lighten it while also toning the brass in 1 step thus eliminating damage. You can do. 30 volume, works every time ❤❤

I would have done 1-1 ratio for the extra strength and used a different lightener like flash lift with bonder inside but thats just my opinion, also leave it for the maxiumum time like 40 minutes not 25

Worked on me: I used 40 V developer with charcole 10x lightner, for an hour (not including putting it in), on black dyed hair (over dyed brown, over pink) and my hair was banana yellow In One Session, and felt very good. May not work for everyone, but I was so happy; my hair is thick and I thought it would be a disaster. It was even and super cute ♡

I needed 3 sessions (over a period of 6 months!) to go from black dye (or really dark brown) to white (really white!) And I lost 10cm in length, which was expected before we started. I had black hair at the bottom of my head and blue on the top, I changed the blue to black and the black to white. After a while I went completely dark and now I'm growing out my hair to start again with virgin hair 😊 I want to go back to blue ❤

For real I'm a natural level 8ish ash blonde and it took 6+ hours to get to platinum and I had short hair that was in good condition, I had k18/ola in advance and I still had decent damage. I was VERY naive about the process and was like I'm almost blonde what's the difference 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

That show brings a few things to mind. It makes me think of Jerry Springer in some ways, showing people's intimate problems on national TV, then mocking them for it. Also, "don't cast your pearls before swine" also comes to mind.
