I used to work at Sally's and the Ion creme lightener is by far my favorite bleach. I have tight coily hair and when I use their creme lightener with their developer and mix in their Absolute Perfection Booster Step 1. I'm telling you if you want to keep your curl pattern intact, use this combo. My hair feels so brittle with other bleaches, but with Ion's cream lightener, my hair barely feels different and it doesn't come out dry. I always recommended these products, especially the Absolute Perfection Booster Step 1, if you're trying to bleach and you want to ensure the health of your hair, it really does work and I never bleach my hair without it.

ION cream bleach with their sensitive scalp developer is superior to any powder bleach I have ever used. It makes the perfect texture, is easy to apply, and doesn't burn. You don't have the dust issue that you get with powder lighteners, it mixes like a dream, and the smell isn't overpowering.

I hated the cream bleach. I have level 2-3 hair and bought some for my roots and they lifted so horribly. not only was it uneven in some places but it also lifted to an ugly brassy yellow orange and I had to rebleach. with my go to, schwarzkopf's blondme, I have always gotten a beautiful lift and the only reason I had gone with the cream bleach was because it was cheaper but that was a mistake.

Thank you so much for making this video, Brad! It’s sooo useful and informative, I never know which bleach to get when lightening my hair… I’ve always kind of defaulted to Quick Blue mostly because it’s the one I’ve always used. I bought the 1 pound bucket recently and I was shocked at how big the container was vs how much powder was in there! It’s a huge waste, you’re so right; and it does have a very lumpy consistency. However, it’s always done a great job lightening my hair. All I needed afterwards was a toner and I ended up with a beautiful platinum blonde. No need to bleach twice, which is great cuz my hair is naturally pretty dry and having to bleach again would seriously damage it. So again, thank you so much, Brad for investigating this for us. 💕

When I’m doing highlights, if they’re already light.. i won’t go above 10vol, if they’re darker I’ll use 20… I’ve never noticed breakage with it, it’s usually super even, and a good mixing consistency. Now if I used 30+.. then yes. I noticed damage but if you stick to the lower developers, it’s great.

Love your videos, Brad. 😘 I would like to add a bit of advice to your viewers who want to lighten at home: DON’T use 30 vol. developers, guys. “Low and slow” is the safest, most reliable way to lighten your hair. The lifting power is in the powder lighteners, the developer just activates them. You can get very bright, beautiful lift with the ION or Wella products, using 10 vol. developer, without the breakage. It will just take time, which shouldn’t be as much of a concern at home. Check your hair after 45 minutes if you’re going for very blonde and reapply fresh product right on top of what’s there to push past those stubborn warm tones. You can do this safely with 10 or even 5 vol. Hope this helps!

When I used to bleach my hair regularly, I always used quick blue with a 20 developer, I've never had problems with clumping but it looks like I used more developer than Brad did. I also never had it in for more than 10 minutes and I would have fairly even lift. I went to a professional stylist and a week later I cut off all my hair due to the damage, breaking and falling off in clumps. The stylist was aware that I regularly bleached my hair and it was just a disaster of an experience. I stick with doing my own hair because of that.

My hair is always crunchy after using it, but after washing once or twice that usually goes away. I actually think it’s lightener that sticks to your hair and my hair actually got so dry because I one time I didn’t wash it after bleaching and one section of my hair got so dry and is still drier than the rest of my hair today. And I rinsed my hair 4 times to make sure it was all off. So yeah I can confirm that BW2 stinks bad and leaves hair crunchy, but it is great at lightening tho.

I would love to see a comparison of the cream lighteners. I first used BW2 powder and completely agree with your assessment 😅 but for the past year and a half I’ve been using Ion’s cream lightener. I leave it on for about 45mins and the results are great, nothing falling out. (For reference I have very dark, very strong 4a/4b hair) I also use their bond protect product line though. I mix the first step in to the bleach and then use the second step for 10mins immediately after rinsing the bleach out. It’s been pretty great. The only experience I have with Wella so far is the T14 toner. I was just trying to get the orange out with a blue based toner. But OMG do not follow the directions on that box!! ❗️I processed for 28mins (box said 30) and it gave me dark GREY on level 9 blonde and a dark mud brown on what was a level 8 blonde. I had to lemon/conditioner soak to lighten it up again. Luckily that added some warmth back. So yea, I’m not a “Wella” fan. 😅

Great vid Brad as always 🙂I Am surprised at the results of Color Charm over Ion. Color Charm was my very first hair lightner along with a T2 (?) toner, and I really liked the results. Thanks to you I'm going back to it so thanks! Oh, and I agree with you...BW2 is dusty as a desert! Lol!

I bleached my underlayer last week and thanks to brads videos and him educating us I actually didn’t mess it up 🤧 My hair is still relatively healthy and my curls have survived the bleaching process 🥲❤️ Thank you brad

I use Schwarzkopf's BLONDME to bleach my sister and daughter's hair - it's really good and they've never ended up with pi** yellow hair 👌🏻
