Why you can’t get a job right now (it’s not just you)

Музыка

Getting a job right now is pretty difficult despite what's shown by the market. Between needing 5+ years of experience for an entry level role, the perfect corporate social media profile on LinkedIn, and applicant tracking systems, it's important to remember that you aren't alone in the chaos. Would love to hear your thoughts on this!

Yeah, I applied for work, and got ghosted and after about 5-6 months I am being told to reapply to the same job. Like dude you have my application, and can't schedule an interview now? Wtf is that? Also since I am not independently wealthy, I had to get any job, and my work schedule will not accomodate your interview schedule. Oh and when I reach our to your HR, they don't know what to do. Just say apply. I applied for the same job for 2 years in a row just to see if I ever scheduled an interview or was hired. Drum roll... Most of my friends have some sort of debilitating injury or pain that prevents them from enjoying life; torn ligaments, pain in random places, etc. I personally have compressed spine syndrome and a torn left shoulder labrum. Unless you are willing to go to court, no one of the medical care is covered unless you can prove it was due to your service. If you want a long healthy career in the military stick to a non combat trade.

My friend gave me a good tip. Search for more intermediate or higher positions rather than entry level jobs, which may be helpful for you, too. There are going to be a lot of new immigrants seeking out all things entry level, so a lot of extra competition. You're more qualified than entry level (as am I) though you may be feeling desperate for work, which is understandable. In my case, she mentioned something with a lot of reading and writing. But I'm actually branching out back to my roots and considering working back in a customer service capacity again. I have a college diploma. Says a lot, doesn't it?

Bro I am going on 4000, still nothing. Even for jobs I literally have years of experience for that are " in demand". In college I was a trim carpenter and cabinet maker, can't even get a job doing that. When I was in the trade, they would hire anyone named Kenneth. Now Kenneth was a special fellow, he didn't do drugs, which makes him extra special. That special fellow somehow managed to feed a 14 inch door incorrectly into a 52 inch machine and damage the thing so bad it was totalled out. Kenneth then managed to somehow destroy a forklift, which nobody is sure how he managed that. Kenneth then somehow managed to drive the box truck into the homeowners kitchen, which I have no idea why he was driving the truck. This was all within 3 weeks of being on the job. Did I mention that Kenneth didn't do drugs, which I think is probably the worst part of the whole story.

I was with the same company for 8 years making roughly $45 an hour. I busted my ass, worked extremely long days (often going weeks without a day off), but because I was at least making good money I stuck with it. In that time, I didn't get a single raise or promotion despite being one of the company's top performers. I've watched as the company has been mismanaged into oblivion. Pay cuts, two mass layoffs as well as most other veteran employees quitting in droves (I was the only employee in my area at the end), the removal of what few benefits we had, and finally the company deciding to dissolve fulltime positions and only give part time status, even for those of us who'd been around for a long time. Now I'm spending my time doing two hour long pre-employment assessments to stock shelves at Walmart for $16 an hour and not even getting hired there. I just want a fucking job so I can keep a roof over my head, and I only have enough left in my savings to last another month.

I have gotten a few interviews only to get "we are holding off this position" or "you were so great but.." I just had an interview for a one week temporary job and the interviewer on call told me I sound like a great fit, all smiling and sharing things with me, truly made me feel like I can get at least something else to put on my resume, only to be ghosted by her. I messaged the person stating that I was disappointed at not hearing back even though I was promised I was (and I did it very formally). I got a response but still not a offer. Not only that, I am now “over qualified” for retail jobs. They see me as a candidate that will be short-term due to my search for a career, or worry that my degree will make me a “difficult employee” that will have a hard time listening to my superiors without degrees. Interesting that you mentioned the personality assessments. I have 40 years of work experience and a degree. I had to take a personality test for an office job answering phones and scheduling appointments for a small sewer company. The assessment said I was "perfectly suited for a customer service role" and yet I still didn't get the job. In the past, that job would have been a slam dunk. I have NEVER seen anything like the job market we are facing today. You also mentioned video interviews. I was sent a link to an interview where you record a video and they only gave me one minute to answer very broad questions. They just wanted to see what I looked like, couldn't even be bothered to do a phone screen. I don't even know what that one paid. Interviewing is supposed to be a two-way street where the candidate gets to ask questions too, but in this market it's like a one-way dead end street. I will say that in my experience everything goes in cycles and things will come back around if we can all just hang in there.

I can hand on heart tell you I've applied for over 2,000 jobs in the last 3 years and had 3 interviews... One from poundland, one from a warehouse job and one from amazon... I got rejected from all 3, what am I doing wrong?

The unemployment problem is due to a few factors no one is taking about. First problem is due to women force getting into the job market. This has doubled up the numbers compared to a time decades ago when mostly men were there in the job market and women were homemakers. Obviously companies don’t create jobs to include this change in dynamics. Second reason is that divorce and separations are very high and people are remaining single forcing every individual looking for a job again as compared to one person being the bread winner in the family decades back. The social changes lead by divorces, women liberation, empowerment, diversity all these narratives have created this bubble. Third reason is that every one wants job and be a consumer rather than a producer or a farmer. Traditionally the economies were rural and people were in a large way self sufficient. Therefore, the main reasons are greed, laziness, glamour, etc. Fourth reason is corporations are extremely greedy and have accumulated immense wealth and are not putting the money into circulation. The money is circulating amongst the corporations, politicians, criminals and the media and is largely accumulated and not being utilised. Leaving the rest of the population gaping for breath

  • @tomduley6357

    @tomduley6357

    Ай бұрын

I think you hit the nail on the head with that last part. The money is not circulating, partly because of the high interest rate. When credit is expensive, corporations tend not to invest in the business and they cut back on jobs, spending etc. just like consumers do. The thing is that this is a consumer driver society as you pointed out so who are these big companies going to market to when no one can afford their products? We are starting to see the fallout with companies like Starbucks, McDonalds, etc. It's called a recession. The fed needs to lower the interest rate to get things going again.

I'm in the same boat, that's why I comment on KZread all day instead of apply online. I finished a bachelors degree in chemistry, bachelors degree in chemical engineering, one semester of chemistry graduate school, and two semesters of chemical engineering graduate school, all with a GPA of above 3.0, and I still think KZread is worth my time more than Indeed. Chemical engineering job posting want to see certain terms that I wasn't taught in school, and when I google those terms I can't figure out how to tie it into my college experience.

I stopped applying for jobs because of the things you said in your video. It's made me feel depressed and overly anxious about the whole process that I shut down because I don't know how to be enough. My confidence and self worth has taken a hard hit though I'm trying to gain it back. I ended working at warehouse jobs because any other jobs rejected me.

agreed. I've interviewed at two places so far and in both all the top jobs in the company were either friends or family members of the main investor and most of them had zero experience before getting those high positions. The only people who had to apply at all were schmucks like me who don't have any connections- only experience. Oh I ended up not getting the jobs either.

I have spent the past year and a half now, looking for a new job. Literally applying to every place around me, and I can barely get an interview or even a phone call. There's places around me who will even refuse to hire you unless you speak Spanish. And I'm trying to gain more skills and they won't even give me a chance. It's really frustrating that you can't even get a hold of anyone or get anywhere. Especially places like target. You can't even contact a supervisor. The job market sucks. Target did the virtual interview thing and the intentionally asked certain questions to stump you or to automatically disqualify you. How did we get to this point?

Thx a million for sharing this! I've heard from many of my friends that there is a generation gap. For instance, younger generations have been passionate and laser-focused on applying for job, but they constantly get rejected regardless of how impressive their resumes and interviews were. Older generations tend to view them as not willing to go to work, and it is their fault for not succeeding in getting hired. What is your take on this?

IMO younger people are preferred by employers simply because they are more likely to be gullible/easier to con than older more experienced workers...also you can pay them less per hour (I live in Britain so dont know if thats the same in USA)

I thought it was my age too, but I'm over 60. I think overall unemployment is much, MUCH higher than the government figures show it to be. People across all age groups with various degrees of education and experience are struggling to find even a basic job. I have NEVER in my whole life had a problem getting a job, except after the crash in 2008 and it was hard but not impossible. Today finding a job, ANY JOB, feels impossible although I get up every day and keep trying.

At this point we need a Universal Basic Income and we're better off just demanding that from our country than looking for a job. Think about it: the country has the money, it gives so much to other countries. A job should be a right yet companies can reject people for any reason (ie despite discrimination laws they can still reject applicants who are a certain race or gender, if they are too old, if a woman is around the age to have kids, or if a woman doesn't wear makeup, etc.) and even the easiest jobs don't pay enough for basic needs. If you think we should hustle and work to the bone for rent and food then that's the problem and sadly the mindset of these companies and arguably our own government l But, we can change that.
