The band were phenomenal live. You'll enjoy the concert immensely. The Brothers in Arms tour had 248 shows ,all over the world....

The first half of this song reminds me of the Velvet Underground: the guitars, melody, and vocal on the verses. The last part of that outro with Omar Hakim's drum and Mark dropping in with the guitar is superb, that bass on the outro is very Pink Floyd. They never could find a permanent replacement for Pick Withers after Love Over Gold. I never understood Terry Williams listed as a member of the band on drums, he doesn't seem credited for much of anything on their albums, I guess he was their live drummer and drummer in videos on their last two albums and that was it? Great song.

Terry replaced Pick after the Love Over Gold album was recorded. He played on the ExtendedancEPlay EP and was the drummer for the Alchemy Tour. He recorded the drums for the subsequent Brothers in Arms album but he didn't produce the sound Mark Knopfler was after hence Omar Hakim being drafted in. Only Terry's brilliant fills in the Money For Nothing intro were retained. Terry did subsequently rejoin the band for the tour though, during which they performed at Live Aid, and again when they got back together to headline the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute Concert. Altogether he was the band's drummer for a 7 year span.

I have been looking for reactions to this song for some years now, and suggested it in the comments to various reactors, without much luck. So I was very glad to find this one. You obviously enjoyed the song while listening, I am just slightly disappointed that you didn't reflect more on the song itself afterwards, but instead chose to reminisce about a Kroatian cover/ripoff and whatnot. I usually mostly watch reactions to ELO, and it would be interesting to see your reaction to ELO. But although ELO has similar songs, _Why Worry_ is a very special song to me. It's a love song, but it's also a "healing" song. I like to sing along, however it's a bit hard to do while crying at the same time. The two verses are short, but the lyrics say enough - all that needs to be said, and I just love the very gentle, toned down way Knopfler sings it. It's a song I would want to sing to the woman I loved, if she was sad, hurt or upset. The instrumental rest to me symbolises the hug or embrace after the necessary soothing words have been said. It's as if Knopfler is playing on my "heart strings" relieving the tension and pain slowly, making me relax and calm, with a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. I am not "alternative" or religious in any way, but I think the song is magic - not a supernatural magic, but the "ordinary" everyday kind of magic that comes from goodheartedness, caring and loving. The humble optimism in the idea that love and kindness will always prevail and see us through hardship. "And all the rest is by the way" - nothing else really matters much. It's the kind of love and (com)passion that can endure the hardest challenges life gives you, and even transcend death, without being religious in any way. ❤

thanks for sharing the story, and for stopping by. I react to albums, song by song. I do my best to comment what I notice, which is not the standard format that similar channels do. this is more of a video diary of me.discovering new music, and learning from the viewers about the music and bands I listen to.

Great song and reaction. While I am partial to this original version, there is also a performance of Mark playing with Chet Atkins and the Everly Brothers singing 'Why Worry'. Wonderful performance to check out as well - you can tell Mark enjoyed collaborating with some artists he had always admired.

That's a great version of the song. The Everlys also recorded a studio version. Mark played on the song She Means Nothing To Me by Phil Everly and Cliff Richard, although he was one of several guitarists and not the lead. Dire Straits drummer Terry Williams was on drums. Apparently they were running out of time to get it finished and Mark stepped in and paid for the extra studio time.
