A lot of Vikings settled in what is now the UK. Modern day Yorkshire and Cumbria have a lot of Viking heritage. In fact, Time Team did a programme a few years ago where native Yorkshire and Cumbrian men, who could trace their ancestry in the respective counties back a minimum of five generations on the male line were asked to do buccal swabs. They weren't stronger than the calts or germans physically as Tacitus and Caesar vividly describe in their respective books, the average northern barbarian was much taller and stronger than the Romans. However The Romans were better warriors, much more disciplined and with far superior military strategies.

Pish why they build a wall to keep the Scots at bay then. All their strategies training and tactics couldn’t match the ferocity of the fighting men from Scotland. Decimated their patrols and laid waste to the men set to avenge and thought themselves superior in many ways.

@@James12361 According to Rome, Ancient Greece and Carthage those warriors from the north were very strong physically but they had several physicall disavantages aswell I will state some of them, Romans would send Germanic peoples to be Gladiators because according to the Romans they were pretty bad for labour work they would fatigue quick because they have longer bodies so they were not as agile and would consume more energy, during the 2nd punic war Hannibal wrote down that the Celts could not keep up with Iberians and Libians because they were not used to hard and rugged terrain because North of Europe is very soft and plain flat land they were halting the march and taking too much time, and also according to Greeks and Roman the germans and celts were strong indeed but lack indurance they would do alot of damage during the first minutes of battle but they would tired quick and slowly start to retreat and romans moved to the kill and battle was won, people say Germans destroyed the Romans its true but Rome was in Crisis and their armies could not be everywhere. A very amazing thing is that I went on a hike here in Portugal to Santiago Compostela and I met Germans, English and Scandinavians and they all told me " the portuguese, spanish and Italians walk very fast and much longer than us" I noticed they would do okay in flat ground but they would struggle in pain in the mountains because as before much of northern europe is flat and they struggle hard here and it´s funny even though Romans, Greeks and Carthage wrote about it 2000 years ago its very much true these days, and of course the heat they melt down here which is normal because they are used to cold.
