We moved to Idaho since Oregon had gotten so bad. I had moved to Oregon in 1995 and it was beautiful then. My husband definitely liked the weather better here. Also loved the friendliness of the people. Definitely more affordable here.

I live in Southern Oregon. Small town of 2,500. I've been looking at Idaho. Kids are grown now. My thing is off-road riding dirt bike and MTB. Pretty happy here though. I've had good luck with the public school system out here in the sticks. the teachers are very down to earth and no homeless unless I go to Medford.

Very interesting video for me as a fellow Seattleite who moved to Portland around the time you left. I visit Boise for work so know it. None of your decisions seems wrong at all, for example, we’ve felt pushed to put our kids in private school. That said a camping ban and drug recriminalization has passed - whatever the pendulum swinging to the right looks like in Portland, it’s happening.

Never know - if my family moved out west -- I would def consider. I did a Porsche car rally through Sun Valley from Montana and Wyoming -- and thought the environment was incredible. Even ran out of gas near Red River -- coasted down the mountain to the town gas station -- that was fun. I am republican so California and Oregon is out of the question -- Idaho is a healthy mix and safe choice for sanity. Thanks for vid.

I'm in the Idaho Panhandle, but I've been in Oregon some and it isn't very far to drive from Portland to the slopes of Mt. Hood. Pretty country. And you can cross a bridge to the Washington side of the Columbia River and see pretty sights and have very little traffic. And then you have the Tillamook Cheese factory where you can get samples and return and get more samples. I've been there twice and love going there and it isn't that far from Portland. I think Oregon and Washington are both very pretty states, especially the Columbia Gorge.

Idaho Native. Lived there in Boise, till 18. Left for the service in 1975. Lived in SF bay area. Came back in 1979, married with twins. Worked and lived in Boise and Meridian till 1986. Btw, population of Boise in 75, 58k, Meridian in 86, 9k. We had to drive Fairview Avenue to Cole Road. For a McDonalds meal out. Hungry Onion was a awesome substitute!😉❤ Moved BACK to Boise in 1995. Shocked with growth in Meridian! All the beautiful cornfields were gone!😢 Subdivisions EVERYWHERE. Lived on Bench in Boise, till 2005. I located to Eastern Oregon, after 24yr marriage. My folks were needing help. I needed a change. High Tech world had eaten my life. I stepped back in time 20yrs in small Town Baker City. Got a no or low stress job. Caregiver for parents till both passed. Not liking Oregon as I did in 2005. Ready to land back in my native state. Not necessarily the craziness of the valley. Maybe smaller community. You touched on some good points. Especially when you commented about being "out priced" in Portland, my implants from California. Being from Idaho, now able to say, I have lived and worked in 3 incredible States. Watched Silicon Valley go CRAZY Mid 70's all the way through the mid 90's and more. Also witnessed the impact of migration to Idaho. From Californians, and Oregonians and Washingtonians. As student in grade school in the 60's, teacher would introduce new student, "this is _______, they are from California. And yep, class room would groan. Go back. Then in 80's working at HP. Couple of Northern Idaho ex miners, were complaining about Dang Californians ruining our state. I would snicker to myself, (I lived in Palo Alto) and comment. Well if it were for TWO Californians, having a dream idea in a Single car Garage in Palo Alto CALIFORNIA. you guys wouldn't have a job, making good money in 1980's BOISE IDAHO. They would mumble, and quite down. Wishing you and your family many happy years in Boise. I miss my hometown, hope to visit soon. I eventually get my feet back on Idaho soil for good! Merry Christmas, and happy new yea!

All over Portland metro and outskirts have got insanely crowded over the past 10-15 years. They keep building high rise apartments, condos and town home everywhere! Prices for rent will continue to rise. Eventually, we'll get pushed out, or we'll move somewhere more affordable for retirement. Thought of Idaho, but I love living within driving distance near the coast too much. I'd just like to live where it's less crowded, less expensive and among people where a majority are fairly conservative, clean wholesome, respectful, non-judgmental individuals. Would rather not live among fake nice superficial Mormons. I was raised around them 20+ years to know how many of them behave.

We are at the point that who cares if you offend people. It's called freedom of speech, if you don't like it simply move on or counter it with a better argument. Edit: why type of you do to allow you to be anle to move into another state? I live in southern California and moved to a new city in 2019 that had affordable housing but had just started a new job where the pay wasn't there. Now im making the most I've ever mad but now thr housing is unaffordable haha.

Perfect! If you keep being outvoted as happens in a representative democracy and you don’t feel you’re being represented, then you move to where people share your values - not take 3/4 of the land and make it Idaho. You have to move to Idaho if you want to live in Idaho.

I feel bad for Oregon. It used to be my favorite place, myself growing up in Idaho. I looked forward to every trip there, Columbia Gorge, Multnomah Falls, Gardens in Portland, Seaside, Newport, etc.... Now the far left crowd took over and are ruining for everyone even those on the east side of the state. Idaho has a problem though. If tech explodes in Boise you'll find people chasing money that don't care about the place they live in.
