    That really is the problem of the world... the Nazi's put their children ahead of Jewish children, so they engaged in the holocaust. This lady is "putting her children first" and paying for someone to slaughter millions of baby chicks. Do you have any idea how bad your argument is? Putting your children first doesn't mean setting them up to conform in society. It means teaching them morally right and morally wrong things. It is that easy.

    Yes, another vegan family here. Our son is 15 now and gently struggling with being the only vegan (or even vegetarian) in his group of friends. He talks with us and we support him with any decision he makes. He a strong ethical vegan and hates that he struggles with iit at times. But he knows we will love and support him and will not judge him in anyway if he decides he can't be vegan anymore. Its hard to be vegan in a omni world.

    We're a vegan family as well, my kids are so active and smart and luckily they don't feel left out because we have suppotive friends and family who also enjoy plant based food although not vegan necessarily and we make it work so everyone is happy. We also have some very health conscious vegan friends with kids and friends with gluten intolerance, friends that prioritize organic and we all find a common ground and are respectful of one another, but I've heard so many times that some vegans are not as supported or respected and it makes them feel like a burden to others so it makes sense that not every family will be able to stay vegan especially with many kids. Love to all of you❤

    She should feel guilt though. It's not really hard to be vegan and those problems she described are not a good reason to "leave veganism". It's obviously better then 9/10 other people who don't care that much (or not at all), but she was already vegan - therefore she knows that consuming a few animal products here and there means a few animals suffer for no reason here and there

  • @Daz19

    How is it decided what is right for another? There's many things others do, that as society we feel justified in condemning. It seems to justify what we do, one must have good reasons. Now I sympathise but I don't think her reasons were good reasons. It's kind of first world problems if I'm honest. Of course in an omni society there's going to be peer pressure and the odd missing out on sensory pleasures were vegans are not accommodated for, but is that good reason to fund exploitive animal agricultural practices? We know the harm and suffering they cause, to the animals and the environment. Sometime we should feel guilty, there's a reason we've evolved that emotion, it's to dissuade and create regret for choices that are harmful. If your children are not ethically vegan then what they choose to eat out of the house is up to them. If they are ethically vegan, then we should support and encourage them in that, not condone or advocate they participate in the norms and mores of animals exfoliation and murder. There's already a majority of people encouraging that behaviour.

    A lot of people forget the part of the definition of veganism that says "as far as is practical and possible." At home we do vegan, but at school and birthday parties etc I allow my kiddos to have the cake... because it's just not practical to keep them away from all animal products all the time outside of my home.

    We have a saying in France, "Only idiots never change their minds". What is right for you, is right for you and what is right for another person is right for them. No one should impose their choices on others. If your friends stop being your friends because of what you eat then they never were your friends in the first place. I have a lactose intolerance and gluten intolerance, I wish I could eat normally but I have no choice but to eat gluten-free foods and lactose-free even though I love dairy products. I always say to my friends that if they're lucky enough to be able to eat wheat and dairy, to do it. lol Because I wish I could.

You are still young and are discovering that life can be a very fluid experience and you are listening to your intuition and I think moving back towards your personality which is open and accepting. I know the feeling of ‘making the perfect choices’ and if not you are not perfect. I have struggled with that all my life and moved through many ways of eating as I listened to my own needs and those of my family. What I see is a family who are teaching your children in such a fantastic way to be open to learning, aspiring to follow their interests and this change will allow them to be more open rather than rigid in their choices. Life is all about choices and there will be many, many more to make. I am so proud of all of you.

Even in families who are not online, you don’t know their entire story (and no one owes anyone an explanation!). Thank you for opening up dialogues such as this and promoting love and acceptance of the paths families and individuals take 🥰❤️

    I was recovering from an eating disorder and I recognise a lot of how you’re describing how you felt during your veganism with how I felt during the height of my ED. There’s actually a description that might resonate with you quite strongly called Orthorexia. This doesn’t include restricting the amount you eat and isn’t always or even ever associated with weight loss, but it describes a very strict mental association with certain types of food as being very linked to morals and those rules can be incredibly strict (even as strict as, say, refusing to touch or use beeswax crayons). I’m so so glad that you’ve been able to reconcile relaxing some of those rules and conditions you imposed on yourself without automatically feeling like you were doing something Awful or being Abhorrent and Uncaring Towards Animals - because you can be both vegetarian AND care about animals AND be a good person. Xxx

  • @gerbilgal20002000

    @gerbilgal20002000

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@queentatoune great question! Usually there are religious guidelines that stop at the edges of your particular sect of religion where there suddenly becomes an area designated for personal choice. Unless you are the strictest of strict, most orthodox of orthodox, and that’s in every area of your life. I would think there could be circumstances where someone may come to view their very strict eating habits (absent to any other area of their faith where they are as particularly strict) as restrictive and harmful to them, and possibly a form of orthorexia. Label are only helpful if they are helpful and what looks like “orthorexia” or was orthorexia to one person may simply be “paleo” or “veganism” or “keto” for others. The main issue is “are these strict eating habits causing problems for me? Is keeping to these rules causing anxiety, or caused by anxiety unrelated to the food and more related to my inherent worth as a person?” you could take two people with the exact same eating habits and one could be experiencing severe anxiety around food and wish they could allow themselves to eat differently but just CAN’T and the other might be fine with their eating habits and really enjoying their strict diet. And there you have the difference. ETA: and that final example could also be the SAME person, 2/3/4 years apart. What started out as fun and fulfilling suddenly turning anxiety inducing and restrictive due to a change in circumstances, or simply time passing. It’s very fluid and labels are really only helpful if they’re helpful.

    I agree about the “all or nothing” approach. I studied environmental science at university and a professor once compared veganism to driving a car. Like obviously we all know that cars are bad for the environment and even mass transportation has some drawbacks, but it’s just not feasible for everyone to walk everywhere. Insisting on walking everywhere would prevent people from thriving because that’s not how the system is set up and it makes more sense to invest in alternative transportation and energy efficiency than never leaving your house!

  • @FieldOfFireflies

    @FieldOfFireflies

    That's a false equivalence. Veganism is a stance against an injustice, whereas driving a car isn't. It's like someone comparing anti-racism or anti-sexism to driving a car. They're not even close to the same thing and therefore can't be compared. Would you think an "all or nothing" approach to any other injustice (sexism, racism, homophobia, etc.) is unreasonable or not practicable? If not, then why is it any different when it comes to a certain injustice, but not others?

    Chloe, I follow you since the triplets were tiny babies, and I should say I admire you so much, I think we're about the same age and you inspire me a lot with the way you (and Ro also) raise your sweet little beans. And this is just the thing I always see you doing, making the choices you think are the best for your family, and It's truly beautiful! I'm planning my first pregnancy next year, and I should say I've learnt a lot with you about parenthood, you are an amazing Mom! Kisses and hugs to all sweet beans and their lovely parents, from Brazil

    I'm not vegan. I'm also not zero waste. I try to reduce waste and buy local when I can. It's just not always possible for me. Are you disappointed in me? No-one has the right to look down on you for keeping your family happy and healthy. You are an awesome person and a great mum. Keep at it.

    I feel like the vegan community is very judgey against non-vegans. I can see where it could become toxic and anxiety inducing. Good job on making a rational decision for your family based on experience.

    One time I joined a group for vegans because I needed some recipe ideas, and it said that non-vegans were welcome. A single mother made a post about how she was really struggling with veganism for various reasons and wanted to started incorporating a few dairy products back into her diet, but she felt guilty. Most people were commenting saying "you just have to think of the animals, then you won't struggle to stay vegan", so essentially making her feel more guilty. I commented saying that veganism is great but if it's not working for her, eating a bit of dairy doesn't make her a bad person. Then the admins deleted my comment because I was apparently "promoting animal cruelty". That kind of sums it all up, for me. People should be allowed to just do what they can, even if that means not being perfect. The guilt-trips put far more people off of even attempting to eat more plant-based food, than they do convert people to veganism.

    @@twylabobette2012 you were promoting it and no, if you join a vegan group you shouldn't be allowed to do so. If some people struggle, they should be helped, solutions can be found. But just saying "eat some animal products again" is just as absurd in this context.

    As someone who has been vegan a long time, this makes sense to me. It’s not an easy decision, but lifestyle wise it’s very easy to slide back into vegetarian. Life gets so busy with kids and work and pets and vegan can be expensive and hard at times. What I don’t get is people who become full blown carnivores, or never eat a vegan meal again, or eat a ton of meat after being vegan. Being more flexible does help with the heaviness of it. Great explanation, very thoughtful.

    When people swing so far in another direction I guess it could be a kind of burnout, like they are so tired of what they were doing they just want something as different as possible. But I also think some people just have very passionate personalities, and whatever choices they make in their life they tend to do them with huge enthusiasm and even kind of to an extreme.

    I agree with the other comment - I think that the "all or nothing" toxic perfectionism mentality really does burn people out. So instead of reducing their consumption of animal products, they just feel like they can't do it at all anymore, so they go back to eating meat. I think the same thing happens with zero waste too.

    I’m very impressed with you for expressing your transition. You are an amazing family and you are a big reason for that. Hold your head up and feel good about being true to yourself and keeping an open mind. Just recognizing that you were judgmental at one time is a huge sign of growth. God bless you in this season and beyond.
