EX-VEGAN | No Longer Vegan After 7 Years

I went from vegan to ex-vegan: Why I am no longer vegan after 7 years and feel better than I ever have. I know this journey looks different for everyone and I understand if you feel some type of way. I want to share my journey on quitting a vegan diet and what that looks like for me now 1 year later.
Sending lots of love,

4 years of veganism ( whole foods plant based) absolutely ruined my health. I became severely anemic and put myself into early menopause. Im still trying to recover. My male partner ate the same as me and hes fine. It effects everyone SO differently. Thats why when people say it works for them... its irrelevant. If it works for you, great! It might work longer for you... awesome.

Since almost falling into the blades of the blender that is veganism (2019), I've watched many 'No longer V. ' videos. Your experience is similar to that of so many others, that it points to a deficient diet. Those who claim otherwise & rush to blame a person's character, appear to place ideology above reality. I hope you enjoy 2024, thriving as a WF omni.

I was vegetarian mostly vegan for like 18 years, since I was about 16. I don’t have a big appetite and I need to eat some animal products to get enough protein and calories. I eat eggs, some yogurt and cheese, and fish once or twice most weeks. I can’t bring myself to eat other meats but this works better for me. I still like nondairy milks and some healthy vegan meals (no fake soy/gluten meats), but it’s better for me not to be on such a restrictive diet.

The things you mentioned also make me want to focus on a 'whole food plant based' diet. I agree 100% that it has a lot to do with processd food. I also noticed that when I visit a friend in america I get sick. This is no hate, but a lot of food there is just not good, so I did some research. In america you are allowed to use additives and chemicals until it is proven that it's harmfull, and if no one discovers the connection and mentions it, it's maybe never discovered. In europe you are only allowed to use something in food after it's proven to be safe. I think that says a lot. It's not the vegan diet, it's what people have made it with all the processed foods.

a whole foods plant based diet will fix the harm of ultraprocessed food but it doesn’t address the lack of nutrients that is the biggest cause of complaints from vegans. Vegan diet is a starvation fast. It’s the absence of animal foods, which are the only foods capable of digesting in stomach acid, and therefore nourishing the human body - if those are absent from the diet, then you body is in a constant state of autophagy where the body is consuming your healthy cells for nutrition. This is why vegans can claim that their blood work is showing they’re healthy, because those nutrients your body is cannibalizing to stay alive are being transported through the bloodstream. Plant foods do not digest in stomach acid; they must ferment in the large intestine before they can be evacuated from the body. These fermenting plant foods provide at best 6-9% of the body’s nutritional requirements, hardly enough for the body to survive without animal foods.

The majority of lifestyle vegans are vegan to reduce animal suffering, lots of us are also activists. Its extremely hard for us watching videos like this, which suggests veganism is harmful with no scientific backup, just individual experiences. You do you, but Im not going to start to be more accepting towards a lifestyle that pays for the suffering of billions, and it upsets me to see somebody trying to bash us for being judgmental. Of course we are judgmental, videos like this un-do so much of the work we do as activists, when all we want to do is reduce human-caused animal suffering. This is a very damaging message with no backup from credited studies, just one persons experience and some instagram messages.

I don't think my video will un-do as much of the work. I think it's important to have stories and experiences out there. Because a lot of people are torn, it took me a very long time to come to terms with and to change my entire diet. I was vegan for 7 years, before alot of people were even vegan - I vouched for so much for so long, I still do when it comes to cosmetics and such. Animal cruelty is awful, and I will always try to do the best I can to educate myself and to make choices that work for me and be less cruel. But at the end of the day, my health is important to me, this is my story, my experience. If you don't know how it feels and you can't relate that's okay. I didn't ask you to understand. There is space for both, and to go on and basically say this un-do's so much. What about the seven years I gave it my all? Enjoy your day 😊
