Sagan is not quite Sagan just yet. He had an issue on Stage 2 with Jakobsen, and again on Stage 3 with van Aert. He wasn’t “furious” by any means. He’s just very competitive and had the legs to win. What he is missing is his unique ability to weave his way through chaos and win the stage like only he could do. So, he’s frustrated. But, he is so very close. I think he now has enough races under his belt to win a stage in this year’s Tour like the Sagan of old. It would be great to have him back!

Wout said after the race that he made a major mistake but I'm glad that you clearly point out that Laporte made the mistake. If the UCI applied there rules to all teams instead of hand picking who they apply penalties to, they would have relegated WVA. The rules clearly state that once you start your sprint you should no deviate from your line and endanger another rider. Blind Freddy could see WVA did both, front on you could see he deviated nearly 5m from when he started the sprint and nearly put Sagan into the barrier. While the UCI pick and choose who they want to apply rules to, it is only a matter of time before there is another incident like Jakobsen and Groenewegen.

But since Morkov moved to left, Laporte and Van Aert had to pass him from different sides, which led Van Aert lose Laporte's wheel. Fair play to WVA, he really knows how to deviate just enough to not cause damage and have some fools defend him in the comment section. If Sagan doesn't know how to use his elbows to protect himself and doesn't have superb bike handling, it will surely end with a crash. Clear relegation, but we know how UCI works- no harm, no foul. I have no way to confirm this but in my mind Sagan pointed at WVA, pat him on his back and said "I'm glad Dylan won by the space you created".
