WHY VISIT CHENNAI INDIA? 🇮🇳 World's Second Longest Beach & More! சென்னை | 197 Countries 3 Kids

Hi Guys! Welcome to another video from incredible India! This time we are exploring Chennai, the 4th largest city in the country, and the state capital of Tamil Nadu.
We quickly got ready, but then it took us about an hour to find a ride. Unfortunately, due in part to the busy wedding season, it wasn't easy to find an Uber or ride-sharing service. In the end, we opted for a couple auto-rickshaws instead. Tyler and Chloe stayed behind for a bit to finalize our next trip as we were planning to move towards Pondicherry after the Chennai tour.
Our first stop for the day was the Kapaleeshwarar Temple. This is an important Hindu worship place with stunning architecture.
From Hindu, we move to Catholic grounds, visiting the St. Thomas Basilica in Chennai. The most interesting fact about the Cathedral is that it was built on top of Saint Thomas's grave, which makes it one of only three cathedrals enshrining the resting place of an Apostle. We were stunned to learn how early on Christianity reached India.
Leaving St. Thomas basilica, we headed for the Valluvar Kottam Monument, dedicated to Thiruvalluvar, one of the greatest Tamil poets and philosophers.
While we were hopping around Chennai, Tyler and Chloe decided to explore the Government Museum. It’s a museum of human history and culture, the second oldest in India. It’s an unusual place, unlike any other museum. Plus, it was super hot and confusing. Finally, we found the right exhibit that showcased plenty of gorgeous statues and artifacts.
Chennai is a truly interesting and diverse place. As the 4th largest city in India, it’s also one of the tourist hubs and largest automobile producers in the country.
The Portuguese were the first Europeans to conquer what is today known as Chennai in 1522. Then the Dutch arrived in 1612. And finally, the Brits took over in 1640 and built St. George Fort, which we were about to see next.
Once we reunited, we headed for St. George - a fort and now a museum and governing seat of Chennai.
After touring the Fort area, we spent some time at the longest beach in India (and the 2nd longest in the world!) known as Chennai Marina Beach.
We had some tea, dipped our toes in the Indian Ocean, and took a bunch of selfies with the locals. Then we headed back with our driver to pick up our luggage before continuing on to our next destination.
Stay tuned for our upcoming adventure in Auroville, India!

    1) There is NO evidence that St. Thomas ever visited India. 2) There is NO evidence of existence of Palayoor Church before 1600. 3) But there is IRREFUTABLE evidence that Palayoor Church was indeed built on the site of a destroyed Hindu temple 4) Archaeology confirms this Church was built on ruins of destroyed temple "Recent excavations show that the present church and its compound stand on the remnants of a Hindu temple, with its tank, sacred well and sculpture" - Journal of Indian History - Volume 49(1971) - Page 251 5) British Gazetteer( Madras district page 478) in 1933 recorded ruins of Hindu temple inside the Church complex. The current Church structure was built in c. 1611 CE after demolishing an earlier existing temple at that site 6) St. Thomas is buried in Basilica di San Tommaso in Ortona, Italy. Now take a guess as to why that pagan "idol worshiping" Hindu temple was demolished by the Christians and a church built on top of it. THEN guess why the xtians now claim "victimhood" and "tomb of thomas" after building their church over a demolished Hindu Temple. lol.

He is not thomas the Apostle you mentioned its another st Thomas made saint by a pope like example joan of arc 100s of years later. This Basilica santhome area was built after demolition of Kabalieshwar Temple but the chettiar merchants took the hindu diety before Portuguese missionaries destory the temple. Kabalieshwar Temple is mentioned as near sea shore in ancient scriptures but now its moved to away from sea shore now on land why ? Above mentioned demolitions.

@@sheebaradhakrishnangr British and Eurocentric/Christocentric propaganda myths about India are indoctrinated into Westerners - even Indophile ones [I have lived in Britain since 1967]. BTW - The claim that the supposed apostle Thomas died in India is a very dubious one. First of the Christian churches (or Churchianity as Vivekananda called the Church) are all Literalistic corruptions of the true Gospels [as the suppressed Nag Hammadi gospels show] are actually made-up myths copied from the older Mediterranean Mystery Traditions (along with Indian Buddhist-Brahmanic influences) teaching mystical enlightenment - they are not historical records of a real man! The name Iesous was a made up Greek form of Yeshoshua (Joshua) which means Salvation and simply symbolizes the Divine Light or Godhead. The Indian Vedas knew of the Inner Light and how to access it long before the Mediterraneans. As Prof. Elaine Pagels, an expert on the Gnostic Gospels stated, the myth of St Thomas in India reflects more the fact that Indian traditions influenced the creation of Christianity rather than Christian influences on India. As French scholar Gut Sorman points out, incense-burning, bellringing and relic worship were copied by Christians from Indian traditions not the other way around as Christians falsely claim. The concpet of Self-Examination in our Consciousness or Conscience originated with Gautama the Buddha. The French scholar Sylvain Levi - as with Guy Sorman - saw the Brahmanic-Buddhist Spirit of India behind the rise of Christianity. Josephus the Jewish historian wrote that the First Century Hebrews were very familiar with Indian Philosophy and that the Pharisees of Alexandria copied the doctrine of Transmigration from Indian beliefs.

1:52 If you visit an arid subtropical city like Hyderabad in summer, you better be careful. The temperatures in peak summer easily crosses 45°C, and the humidity plummets down really low. When traveling in such weather, the wind blowing into your face feels like the heat from a furnace, and heat strokes is a common affliction in the summer. 4:06 "Taking off shoes outside" is a trend followed across all the religious sites in India. It stems from the fact that we consider the outside streets as filthy, and feel that walking in with the filth stuck to our footwear is a form of disrespect to God, in whatever religion it may be. In fact, I believe there was a requirement to remove the shoes at the Taj Mahal to visit the tomb, but due to the insane volume of tourists, they resorted to giving shoe covers to prevent the tomb getting filthy with all the shoe mud soiling the tomb. 5:20 Indeed, some records of St Thomas the Apostle show that Christianity landed on Indian shores as early as 52 AD. However, as far as I have read, Christianity was mostly concentrated in some regions of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, and didn't spread out as much. The real spread of Christianity happened after the European colonization efforts kicked off into high gear. 10:13 Those dolls symbolize a classical dance form in India "Kathakali", which involves ornate dresses and elaborate makeup on the face. 15:32 Yes, Chennai is a major automobile manufacturing city. You've got BMW, Hyundai, Nissan, Renault, Ford (before it went belly up in India), Royal Enfield and Yamaha. And these are only the big names. The proximity to a large port facility (for export/import of cars/parts) and initial incentives for investment drew these big companies to manufacture in Chennai. 17:51 Long back, when I visited the Marina Beach, it smelled really bad back then. The problem was, it was in close proximity to a port, and all the bilge discharges from the international ships wash out towards the beach. I think with the new restrictions around the bilge water discharges in the new MARPOL regulations might have curbed the smell and pollution issues now. Pondicherry is a fun destination to visit. The old core of Pondicherry really gives off the "French" vibe (It used to be a French Colony pre-independence). Eagerly waiting for your impressions of Pondicherry. The heat is indeed a major issue in India, especially in the arid regions in Summer. So it goes without saying: 1. Keep hydrated all the time, carry an extra water bottle if necessary. 2. Avoid trips in mid afternoons, as much as possible. 3. Especially in the arid regions, the lack of moisture leads to an intense sunburn, so make sure to carry some sunscreen.

Too many things to see and do at each stop and getting around as a family is a bit exhausting even for Indians! Might be better to choose quality over quantity if time is limited. Ladies this fact might interest you as well. Chennai was the only India city that was bombarded by a German warship named Emden during first world war on 22 Sep 1914. A ten minutes firing at a range of 3,000 yards & hit five oil tanks and destroyed 346,000 gallons of fuel.

Look at the Naivity of this video presenters. They say they don't know a thing about Siva and that temple (though they can Google it and explain). But they go to all the extra lengths to explain all abt St.Thomas including talking Spain, Rome, etc., You can notice how absolutely naive and subtly express superiority complex every now & then, when will the white become truly humble and treat, accept all as equals.

That museum looked sad. I grew up in chennai and when I was a kid I went to this museum on a school trip. There were a few ancient sculptures and pottery, I enjoyed seeing those. But when I saw but the dolls and costumes section was totally underwhelming and looked like some middle schooler put it together with dolls they bought at a thrift store. The fake dinosaurs and other poorly made stuff didn’t impress me either. But I do hope that with wealth and better education, the museum will improve.
