Tesla doesn’t give you a new battery under warranty. It’s a refurbished battery. They replace bad cells in a pack with new ones but don’t touch the old cells. This is like mixing old and new light bulbs. The old ones are just as likely to fail as the bad ones. Thus, these refurbished packs often need to be replaced again.

Not everyone buying EVs has bought into the climate activism agenda. Both types have their pro's/cons, not convinced either is significantly better in that area. If your aim is to limit human impact on earth vs using earth to maximize human flourishing, then your end agenda is depopulation with a fair bit of human suffering along the way.

The same took place with conventional Detroit made cars. New models appearing every year in the matket, driving used cars down. E-Vs are evolving by leaps-and-bonds. Getting better every year. Furthermore, conventional vehicles became Computers on 4 wheels. Chips and electronics go bust, if a car is left for one year parked in a garage. Gone are the days when a car left for years in a barn, could be started after a fair maintenance session.

It's far less grim than this video depicts. First, if you are in US, 30% point of sale credit on used EV up to $4K, up to $7.5K off new. Takes a bite out of the fear on the front end. Given how low many used prices are right now, great value to be had in a used Tesla. I have 135K mikes on my original 10yo Tesla battery. It's doing great and am not worried in the least about this FUD. When purchased I priced out the breakeven miles to pay for battery replacement and made an informed decision with good understanding of risk.

I remember Elon said after 200,000 miles the vehicle would have 80% of its battery life. There is an engineering channel where he tests and rates the batteries in different EV’s. If I’m not mistaken, Tesla was at the top. Kona did reasonably well also

  • @ECPP

    @ECPP

    Күн бұрын

Yes if the battery is treated properly, as in never overcharge beyond 80per ent or grossly run it out all the time, it can go a long time. With that said, 80 percent is not good. Look at a regular lead acid battery, with no load if it reads 12 volts even it’s toast

Tesla model 3 battery and motor made to last 500k miles, 15-20 years. There are plenty of model 3 LR that have 300-400k+ miles on original everything. IMO EV will last 2x more than average ice car. I had 2 EVs now and plenty of BMW’s, Audi, Mercedes which are money pits after warranty expires. I love my 2018 model 3, with 100k miles, saved thousands on fuel, still have original brakes, battery has 92% life left. Also batteries for model 3 is $10k, engine replacement on bmw/audi is also $10k+. In reality EVs have 50 moving parts vs 500+ moving parts on ice car. There is way more things to break on ice car. This is FUD.

@Areku06 key here is you have a Tesla. An outsized portion of those disappointed in their EVs bough a half-hearted adapted design from a large ICE manufacturer, vs a purebred solution. Others bought from a small startup, which will naturally have more issues. Look at how far Tesla has come since the S launch 12 years ago.

Battery prices has come down and will continue to do so. In ten to 12 years (in an ICE car the motor and transmission will be gone since they are designed for 150,000 miles only) Quote "The price of EV batteries is projected to drop 40% between 2023 and 2025, per a new Goldman Sachs research note." March 15, 2024. That is only a two year span. !2 years the battery will be very cheap, and there will be a business for replacing old batteries for newer ones that use less rare metals. The old battery will make several new batteries.

At my cost to charge, if I get 100k out of the battery, it will pay for its replacement based on gas savings alone, given a 0-100% charge would cost me a max of about $10 charging at home.

But with that said, the tech and batteries are likely Improving and ideally making things cheaper as more brands get on board so waiting is best not to mention alternative fuels like synthetics engineered by the Germans, or Hydrogen or the natural push back by buyers means to me, that it will never be totally mandated. You’ve so hit the nail on the head with the current probs of the electric cars! I’m all for protecting the planet from the harm we humans are causing on a daily basis , but reality is , the average Joe can’t afford to buy electric cars and of course the resulting running costs, batteries, not enough infrastructure, unable to plan longer journeys without range anxiety , etc etc… as it currently stands it’s just a gimmick for the rich and the need for more production of electricity ⚡️ ….. well what is producing electricity at the power stAtions presently? 😑. Although I’m not a fan, I agree that the hybrid is still the best balance we have at the moment 😐. I wish they’d carry on investing on the hydro cell technology tbh…. As it stands at the moment , electric cars aren’t the real solution unfortunately, I know we have to start somewhere but unless you’re just doing short journeys and the batteries aren’t improved, we’re not there yet with electric cars, invest on hydrogen technology!

Have this guy owned an ev and has driven it over 250000km, to justify what hes saying. If he has really good. If not then........

Cheap, not a thought, those cars are junk. What the battery cost more than the car, after depreciation. The sellers saying o" no they don't have any problems. Ya" right, right. Those cars don't sell. And it's because of the force push of electric cars. That truthfully are actually worse for the environment..! The cost of operation, time to charge, no station's, mechanic to fix them. Poor quality a known fact. Yes Sr. Nothing but problems..! One thing for sure, heat us an enemy of all electronic equipment. Any equipment or motors. Worse, intervention of the government in your personal life. Where are you. He ows money. Lock down his car so he can't use it, through satellite control. Electronic waves to your car..no, no, no, not even a thought.

I’m a life long car fan. I bought a Tesla Model 3 three years ago. Not because I’m a tree hugger…but because they are fast, fun, low maintenance, reliable and cost efficient. It’s been the best car I’ve ever owned and I still get excited every day getting into it and driving it. People hate on EVs because it’s something for them to do. They have a very uneducated opinion on them.

That’s a great point and every drive in a Tesla has been memorable as the performance is peppy and the get in a go with nonwarmup is great too. The. If challenge I find is it’s likely not going to suffice as the only car in the household, at least not easily. Thanks for the feedback

Most of the anti Ev sentiment is down to people being forced to move from ICE and as tax payers pay for it. Tesla are great cars, and like buying a new GSM you will get more for less each year. New battery tech will hit used car prices over the next few years.

Just got rid of my Model 3 performance for a new Silverado. Never doing EV again. Model 3 was cool at first but all your gas savings are gone and then some with insane depreciation, way more than an ICE. So that’s not even a wash. Plus body repair costs much higher. And insurance usually higher. Tesla service also suckssss. Stay away.

For a while ( when first released ) Tesla was considered "Gucci"....So, the Gucci's flocked to these to Rent/Lease these over time, I, and Many many others simply shake our heads at these owners.....Considering them stupid...Do not want STRESS on ...Do Not be fooled simply look at body gaps and cheap interior many models have cheap Phelopean wood on dash etc. & why STRESS with Range Anxiety...Beware! Jus' consider a Plug-in Hybrid where you have choice between Regular gas or elec. for your Daily Driver.

You can pick up a 2 year old Tesla for about 20k. That gives you 6 years on the battery and about 90k before the warranty expires. I have racked up over 200k and still have 87% of the battery. How many ICE vehicles go 200k miles and still run like the day it rolled out.

Why Tesla are so cheap, because nobody wants them, in Canada, they're still expensive, when you buy a used Tesla, you're playing Russian roulette., and nobody except Tesla can fix them, so they can overcharge you a lot.

There’s a lot of wrong information in this video regarding EVs. The main point about battery replacement is very wrong. EV batteries last 10-20 years. Many Teslas are on the same battery and have gone 200,000+ miles. They don’t cost $20,000 to replace. Currently a Tesla battery replacement is $10,000-$12,000 and it’s only getting cheaper with time.

Here is the ntruth about Tesla motors "The motor replacement is about $6,000 USD. The battery anywhere from $13,000 to $20,000. However this is covered by an 8 year warranty for both drive unit(s) and battery. And these are official tesla prices. Prices as of now. In 12 years it will become very cheap.
