Why US Corporations Are So Threatened by Mexico’s Next President Claudia Sheinbaum

Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum of the progressive MORENA party has won Mexico's presidential election in a landslide, becoming the country's first female president. Sheinbaum pledges to continue the Fourth Transformation project, initiated by her predecessor President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, which aims to fight austerity policies and corruption. John Ackerman, a professor at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), explains the significance of Sheinbaum’s historic election for Mexico, the region, and the world.

Democracy Now interviewed climate scientist, Ruth Cerezo-Mota, the other day, in which they discussed some of Sheinbaum's climate/environmental failures while she was a mayor. You should see about getting Ruth on the show -- actual pro-working-class journalists should always be looking for the critics of the wealthy-class & their puppets. If Sheinbaum is just going to be another moderate-RW, Capitalist puppet (like the moderate-RW, Capitalist, Democrat politicians are), she should just go away and have intercourse with herself (like the moderate-RW, Capitalist, Democrat politicians should). On a side-note: You all should look into partnering with Chris Hedges, unless you're also the puppets of wealthy-class Capitalist-RWers (like the moderate-RW Capitalists over at The "Real News" Network are).

Chrissie Hynde say? I don't have her number... or email address (sigh), but let's ask Claude (claude.ai) for a best guess on how Chrissie might respond to that question... (still chuckling) Ok, that was... interesting. Still working to learn how best to phrase things to Claude to get a seemingly realistic response. Here's the Claude-imagined Chrissie Hynde response I like the most (of about seven): "You know, as someone who's spent a lot of time on the road, I've learned that there's a lot more that unites us than divides us. So when I hear about a groundbreaking election like Claudia Sheinbaum's, I don't think about what's in it for me - I think about what's in it for all of us. And in this case, I'd say it's a reminder that change is possible, and that's something we can all benefit from." Though I'm absolutely a fan of Chrissie's, I'd probably be deluding myself to say something like "Oh yeah... that's totally Chrissie." Your thoughts?

100% It’s so frustrating whenever anything regarding Mexico is covered (even something lighthearted or non-political) in a video or article because there will always surely be a ton of (usually) right-leaning people from the US who feel compelled to tear down the country in every way possible. I myself am also from the US but am also of Mexican descent as my parents were from Mexico originally. It’s like, I get it. Mexico has many issues and it’s in no way perfect. But these people need to realize that a strong Mexico means a stronger US as our two economies are strongly linked.

"us corporations suck." Like a world-wide vacuum. That said, not *just* U.S. corporations of course. But yeah... U.S. corporations do seem Hell-bent on setting some sort of global standard for a psychopathic "greed and ruthlessness high-bar" for the rest of the world's corporations to try to meet or beat. But it's not just loathesome, greedy, profit-before-life corporations (U.S. or otherwise), right? I mean... if we wanna look ourselves in the mirror and be honest about it... it's the money-worshipping religion called Capitalism. But sure, especially the exceedingly-rapacious variant of that cult which calls the U.S. home. To your point, though, yeah... So *many* parasitic U.S. corporations quickly spring to mind, but I think Bechtel serves as an excellent archetype. Bechtel: the folks who benefited from (possibly even drove - I forget) the IMF and/or World Bank leaning on Bolivia to privatize its water back in the late 90s. With that achieved, what came next? Well, hiking the cost of water by about 50%, annnnd... making gathering *rainwater* illegal, of course. At least the Bolivians called bullsh*t on that and sent Bechtel packing and (whoa) got their water back. But yeah... U.S. corporations may be the worst. (...saying this as an American)

"Never understand why the US doesn't like leaders and governments that really cares about the people and their countries..." Seriously? One word: Religion. "Huh?", you might ask? In the U.S., the number one religion, is... Capitali$m. The almost-literal worship of money. Capitali$m demands that it be the only object of worship and, will *not* abide what it deems false idols. (Or maybe corpse-eating is number one and Captiali$m is number 2, but let's not go there. lol) Basically, if, say, some Latin-American leader shows a bit more interest in serving the people of that leader's country than to the interests of U.S. profiteers... we (America, not me personally) are on that like stink on sh*t. *No* digression from serving U.S. corporate interests will be tolerated. Look at Chile in '73. Democratically-elected, popular, left-leaning leader (Salvador Allende), who had some genuinely progressive ideas for his people, and for making a democratic form of socialism work. "Wait just a damn minute now!", probably chanted Nixon and Henry effing Kissinger (RIH*) in unison. Next thing we know, they turn the CIA loose on the country, with their de-stabilize-and-intimidate playbook, annnnnd *poof*, Allende gets ousted and the brutal right-wing Augusto Pinochet gets installed, along with his 17-year terror campaign against his own people. Claudia has a PHD and is a hell of lot smarter then any politician or president, for that matter, the USA can field. For women, around the world, Claudia showed the world how it's done. As for being a "leftist or "Jewish", the fact is religion has no importance on Mexican politics, thank God. The only country where religion is a dominate issue, is the USA and perhaps that is the reason why the country is so immorally fundamentally contradicted. The USA male politicians will have a reason to fear Claudia, because not only all of Mexico will stand behind her, but also most women around the world. I would be gladly say that because of brave women throughout the world, the women's time to govern has come.

I'm from Mexico and I live in Mexico, It's really hard for me to see someone who claims to know what he is talking about like the guy in the middle first of all UNAM is a pay to enter university literally if you are broke or on a scholarship they are going to make it really hard to get in. I grew up in America I know what I'm taking about when I first move here I tried to get in like one of the questions on the exam was: If Maria is married to Jose, who is Juan? Like for real some real B.S. plus they have not updated they educational material since like the 70's basically 70%of the students are women and most of them have claimed harassment, if your not giving it up or money you are not welcome. I don't know if anybody notice how unprepared the man in the blue polo shirt is, it's so disgusting most of the faculty is involved in politics and are corrupted by personal interest. This so-called teacher was not even able to stay in context let me just inform everyone that it's imposible to fix this because all teachers in Mexico belong to a syndicate and no one can replace them even if they are incompetent like this fellow. Why, because they are friends with the current left wing president. If you really want a good source look someone who can really talk about the subject without being bias on his opinion.

First, great guest! Living half the time in Mexico, I have been impressed by AMLO’s incredible will power, intelligence, prudence & what he has accomplished in just 6 years! Usually most Presidents lie, cut and acquire more debt to enrich themselves and their oligarch masters. Frankly it is the first time in my 50+ years that I have witnessed and lived true democracy. His government has steered Mexico in a better direction despite a putrid opposition & oligarch class, along with USA media/Government/Corporate very dirty tricks. Claudia is impressive, she too is congruent & competent & won a hard battle to be elected as the Presidential candidate and now the President. I am very excited & hopeful that she too will further the paths that have been productive that AMLO forged, better what isn’t as fruitful and address areas that still need work. This is a country full of resources, talent, humanity and I very much hope to see Mexico/Mexicans prosper & realize their full potential. Sadly the USA is an arrogant, greedy, racist bully, fortunately; our leaders aren’t very intelligent or comoetent, and the candidates with the best chance of being USA President exemplify this, but they are treacherous & aggressive, so I hope Claudia, like AMLO, can keep outsmarting the anti-Mexican, Mexican and foreign opposition. Viva Mexico!!!🇲🇽

Wtf are you talking about, we are literally the middle point between the entire planet’s migrants and the USA. What we do policy wise will affect your country’s migrants because they end up in Mexico before being allowed or deported from the USA. You are under the impression that there were “candidates” as in presidential candidates who got offed. Nope none of them were presidential candidates they were literally running for minor roles in towns and villages in the outskirts

I am worried that she is crawling around with Blackrock and China and that she might not address the issue with Palestina and Israel since Mexico has ties with Israel’s “Pegasus” program and technology, not to mention the ever living threat of the cartels, the migration crisis and the historic water droughts along with the everlasting issue of class inequality, Oligarchy and the devils at Washington and Europe who wish to make Mexico into their obedient colony.

Actually the US should abolish reelection, the US presidents spend 2 of their first 4 years planning the reelection because 4 years are not enough time to make a change. 6 years is suficient time to make a change, or at least start one. Also the presidencial campaings should be done with tax money, every american citizen should be a campaign contributor, because the president must govern for everyone, not just private donors. Both parties must have exactly the same campaign budget. A US president spends the first 2 years paying back their private donors, then the next 2 planning the reelection, then the next 2 paying the donors again, and at the end they have opnly 2 full years of real change.
