I don't think Mulcair quite understands. The Conservatives are perfectly aware that Telford with refuse to answer questions or deny factual evidence just as she did in the case of the WE scandal. Mulcair himself makes that statement. Conservatives are also strongly aware that in other countries federal inquiries are courts which can mete out contempt of court punishments - as was done with certain Trump officials. When Telford goes into her act, Poilievre will immediately use this behavior as proof that Canada is broken. Simply the fact that Mulcair takes such pleasure in Telford's past antics is of itself proof that Canada is morally broken.

Mulching is 100% correct. The best Judge in the world cannot preside over any case where they have had any direct interest in. (Even indirect would normally disqualify a judge.) It’s a matter of judicial ethics. The same has to be said for an investigation like this. Because there is a possibility that the Rapporteur will discover materials or information that leads to criminal investigations there can’t be the slightest sniff of conflict of interest.

Mulcair is such a balanced and smart guy. I wish he could have been PM. He has all the qualities our current PM does not.

Mr. Mulcair was actually in the lead during the 2015 election; right up until last place Justin TrueJoker desperately shouted out that he'd legalise weed - then that one calculated outburst clinched the entire ballgame (and both Harper & Mulcair never recovered). We all know how the rest of the story went...

David Johnston should not make recommendations to Trudeau . But rather Johnston should appoint JWR to lead a public inquiry . She would provide Canadians with trust . .
