Why This British Expat Chose India For Life

Meet Jamie. Originally from the UK, he moved to Delhi almost 3 years ago. Jamie told me how living in India made him handle spicy food much better, whether he's faced any prejudices for being British here, and what the biggest misconceptions are that Westerners have about India. Enjoy!

    Read this to know about our past and achievements. Ancient India's Achievments: 1. Ancient universities such as nalanda, takshashila, vikramshila, and much more over thousands of years ago. 2.Indians had concepts of calculus before west like infinite series for pi, power series for sine and cosine, inverse tangent series, and much more. 3. Aryabhatta invented sine function. 4. Bhaskara II gave modern definitions of sine and cosine. 5. Sushruta was one of the pioneers in surgery over 2000 years ago. 6. Maharishi Kanad, a philosopher, proposed the idea of atoms in 600 BCE. 7. Brahmagupta invented the formula to determine the area of cyclic quadrilaterals. 8. Decimal System. 9. Binary number system by pingala. 10. Ayurveda. 11. Bhaskara I stated that at the highest point, the rate of change is zero. 12. Varahamihira predicted water on Mars thousands of years ago. 13. Sridharacharya invented the modern-day quadratic formula. 14. Solutions to quadratics. Modern India's Achievements: 1. Har Gobind Khorana synthesized the first artificial gene and demonstrated the role of nucleotides in protein synthesis. He also played a massive role in cracking the genetic code. 2. Artificial synthesis of coenzyme A by Har Gobind Khorana 3. Chandryaan 3 landing on the south pole of moon. 4. Mars Mission. 5. Sun Mission (Aditya - L1). 6. Fiber optics by Narinder Singh Kapany. 7. As a black westerner when I traveled there I found India to be the most filthiest and most racist country on earth. They are desperate to be white and desperate to have validation from a white person, if they get even a whiff that they are not getting validated of their fake glories, they get extremely mad/upset under the garb of 'colonial history '. The black nations in India from Calcata to Madras are particularly racist. Lastly, India is a multinational, multiracial, multiethnic, multicultural subcontinent turned into a country by the Brits but they never give this credit to the Brits.

Just look at the kind of hatred Rishi Sunak receives from UK people. After all, HOW can such BRUTAL COLONISERS ESCAPE from RACIST MINDSET. Their OBSESSION with WHITE SKIN shows their ORTHODOX MENTALITY that has nothing to do with SCIENCE, as the change in skin tone from DARK TO WHITE is totally based on amount of sunlight a region experiences. Having a culture’s base be family is not a good thing my guy. It opens people up to so much abuse within that construct that is hidden away for the ‘sake of the family’, having family be most important thing is just a form of control. Not to mention in this modern day and age blood should not be thicker than water, we’re all human beings on this earth we should have value based on our behaviour and actions, not how genetically close we are to someone.

    @@ObscureManifestoI understand your frustration. I’ve been in the US for 25 yrs. Dating was difficult. Constantly being shamed about work visa fraud and immigration, female related violence in India hurts our image tremendously. But this is a big ploy by the western UK/US elite. They will continue to portray that to show their supremacy. There is little we can do about it as individuals. The elite all have their investments in the US. They will not speak up. Shockingly India is now the poorest country in the world. Nigeria overtook India. It’s tough. Indian Union is a messy chaotic place where there is no unity to fight this trade and wealth imbalance. I thought a lot about it and I feel sad how not many in India including rich and politicians simply do not understand how contemptuous the western elite are towards India and Indians. Anyways.. keep your head up and try to live a balanced life. It’s a slow struggle. Cheers.

    Nice to hear other peoples experiences of India as an expat or long term resident.I'm Australian and spent multiple years living in a small village in Goa with my Goan husband in the 1990's. I also found that my use of english changed to suit the local grammar style and my accent became slightly 'Indianised'. I was unaware of this until my sister mentioned it to me later. I also had difficulty with the Konkani language though finally managed to have functional Konkani after a couple of years. It made local travel and day to day life less isolating. Not many people I knew spoke english at that time. Now when I go back to Goa, the percentage of native Goan's living in Goa seems less than the that of Indians from other states and Hindi seems to the dominant language used 'on the ground'. I love the food but never got used to the really really hot dishes - this didn't matter as we cooked most of our own food and I learned heaps of wonderful recipes. The only time I fell ill from food was from a cup of chai while staying in a cheap hotel in Old Delhi. My favourite thing was to bus into Margoa for shopping and stop for idli sambar and chai or puri badjo and chai before catching the bus home again. It was a simple life, I loved it. Mind you there is a lot of paperwork and bureaucratic hurdling to do with utilities, bill paying, council interactions and transport which can be time consuming and tiring if limited to buses.

  • @manashdb

    @manashdb

    A hot cup of chai should not make you ill. It could have been the cup itself if it was a cheap hotel. The guy here said that spices may be the reason people get sick but actually there’s bacteria which makes people sick. And when I say people I mean foreigners. Indians have a resistance to these bacteria…my friend and I ate the same food and only one of us got sick. Usually it’s water related so always drink packaged mineral water and don’t try pani-puri, local popsicles etc. Fruit juice from a street shop is fine as long as it doesn’t have ice in it because even the ice is made from the same tap water. Tea is safe because it’s steaming hot and that kills any bacteria but in your case that didn’t help.

    India now is pretty globalized. If you go to Google and type restaurants in Kohima and restaurants in Aizawl, you will be recommended several restaurants with google ratings above 4. Then you will find a whole lot of Italian, Korean and Chinese restaurants and you will even see pictures of funky mocktails. You can type restaurants in Hakha and Kale, Myanmar nearby across the border, what you will see are only some local joints serving Burmese food. However, there are foreigners only visiting slums in India and eating street foods, then they fall sick and an impression is created that India only has street food which makes you sick. Then I was seeing the list of 50 best restaurants in Asia, Odette from Singapore is ranked 6, Meta in Singapore is ranked 17, Masque in Mumbai is ranked 16th and Indian Accent in Delhi is ranked 19th. One of the best chefs in the world is Gaggan Anand who has opened a fine dining Indian restaurant called Gaggan Anand in Bangkok ranked 5th in Asia.

In east there is western influence more I think, u will find certain things here in the east than in other parts of india which will be good or much easier for ppl like u. Maybe south india is easier too to adjust

I was breathing In long breaths on autopilot and to cut a long story short I ended up having a two hour meditation experience that I now know to have been a full blown Kundalini awakening which was the most intense and powerful, profound and explosive experience of my entire life. 7. Jagdish Chandra Bose was one of the pioneers in wireless communication before Marconi and transmitted signals before him. 8. Discovery of millimeter waves by Jagdish Chandra Bose. 9. Discovery of cholera toxin by Dr. Sambhu Nath De. 10. USB by Ajay Bhatt. 11.Pentium Chips by Vinod Dham. 12. S.N. Bose made contributions to quantum mechanics like Bose-Einstein condensate and laid the foundations for Higgs Boson. 13.Quantum Statistics by S.N. Bose. Also, Boson particles are named after him. 14. Discovery of triple helical structure of collagen. 15. Ramachandran plot, which is a tool used to visualize which angles can amino acids take in proteins. 16. Venki Ramakrishnan discovered the high resolution atomic structure of ribosomes. 17. First DNA based Covid Vaccine. 18. Cervical Cerclage was first described by Sirodkhar. 19. Crescograph. 20. George Sudarshan was one of the pioneers in quantum optics. (Watch and learn more about him). 21. Microwave Optics. 22. Quantum Zeno effect. There are many more indian greats you should learn about. Examples: Srinivasa Ramanujan, Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, C.V. Raman and Raj Reddy (one of the pioneers in AI along with McCarthy). Many of these were wrongfully attributed to foreigners, sadly.

    @@Vitamins152incredible... I know that as a British man our past is a rocky one... But the greatness of India historically is even better than even the great British Geniuses and Inventors who crafted the modern world as we know it. India had probably already done it all way before the British took the forefront of the world stage for a few hundred years and became responsible for inventions and discoveries previously thought to be way beyond Human comprehension... The Computer, The Internet, The Printing Press, Antibiotics, The Jet Engine, The Industrial Revolution, Telecommunications, The Phone, Tv, Radio.... But ancient India had things we could never imagine now... Far beyond our modern world.

    Well, that's a very good point. It's easy for him to say that the UK has lots to learn from India, when what he likes in India is that there are millions of poor people whom he can pay cheaply to perform services for him. It would not be good for Britain if we emulated that model. What I hope most for India is good education and good jobs for all its people, and then I think he would find it costs rather more to be waited on hand and foot.
