Only reason I didn't have to wait the 5 years as a Canadian immigrant is because I enlisted in the US Air Force on active duty and thus the wait period was waived. That said, I and many other veterans, including many immigrant veterans, stand ready to defend the Constitution of the United States, and by extension the people, by any means necessary from a fascist assault on our rights. We will not go quietly.

There are federalist society judges throughout red-state courts, state and federal courts. What do we in red states do? I guess move, but then they win. . . And if I put up a vote-blue sign or put a bumper sticker on my car I will get harassed and keyed. It's so frightening. I can't even trust my neighbors anymore. There's only a handful of people I can talk to. It's so sad. I hate this so much!!

However, today is possibly the most consequential day in all our lives. The USA has irrevocably been changed - from a President to the equivalent of a King in one day. No revolution, no war. I sometimes think that people don't realize that Trump isn't the whole problem. You ever hear of a cowcatcher? It's the big metal V on the front of a train. It's essentially a plow. It moves things off the tracks as a train barrels through. Trump is just a cowcatcher for these far-right groups & their wealthy/corporate backers. Anthony, I’ve been commenting about this for awhile now. Like other like minded Americans, we have seen this coming for some time. However, between those who are trying to destroy this democracy, those who won’t vote (or even bother to register), those who vote irresponsibly or throwaway and those who refuse to take this seriously, there’s just not enough of us...yet. Whether republican or democrat this vector was clear. For me, when “pro-life” started the push against government funding, yet stood fully behind and supported more weapons on our city streets, and when the mass shooting started, all we got was “hope & prayer” that dichotomy needed additional research. It was then I began to realize, not pro-life, anti-abortion. So, here we are, effective abortion ban covering much of the nation, women fleeing states and degraded women’s healthcare, plus, citizens, walking the streets with semi-auto long guns, equipped with bump stocks strapped to their backs. IMHO, not sure we can come back from this. Mr. Davis, as an American citizen, albeit non-native, your prose supplies a rather unique and fresh view on a century old problem. Many are fighting to preserve this democracy, and native or not, you are literally more American then at least 37% of the native born. Welcome to America!

True. I don't know who it was, but some bloke mentioned in a podcast that unless tuition for lawschool is free, you will always have this right-leaning law engagement. Since that's the easiest way to pay off your debt. He proposed tuition-free law school. Because that would flood the benches with engaged people, instead of mortgaged people.
