Now I don’t hate those kids because they were just kids at that time and I hope they start to learn better and act better in thier adulthood. But the teachers who abused me I can’t respect but I don’t even remember thier names and maybe this is best revenge is to forget.

I was very close with my best friend during high school to do the same mistake like Dylan and Eric did. So I can tell from my own perspective what to prevent: 1. Teach about mental illness and how to deal with them. Not only talking in families with that I had no parents who cared for me, they even didn't care if I had food, but in school. Talk about it. Show people where they can get help and when they need help 2. Social Workers at School 3. Social Workes who believe childrens and youth when they are telling about problems at home 4. More Therapy Places. Payable Therapy 5. Talk about bullying. What it is, how to prevent it. 6. Don't be mean. I know. Puberty hits and we all did mistakes there. But be kind. Above when you are at work and an adult. Say hello, don't mock someone, don't exclude someone. In school you learn about Phyics and Books and Art. But as a kid we grow into an adult. School should be an environment where people can learn and grow. An enviroment where people should be included, not excluded. And work? Work is hard. We spent so much time there. Don't make it even harder due to bullying, mocking, beeing mean or whatever nasty things you can do to people. 7. Ask how the feel and when they say everything fine ask again, and again. Watch people. I can tell you you can see if a person is suicidal, depressive or is going into a very dangerous situation for him and for others. Ask, show interest. Don't go away. Don't go away when its getting complicted. Annoy them. Make sure that they know that there is someone who is watching and watching according to: I am the police. You do not do anything against the law 8. Talk about the situation with people. Engage people. Talk with teachers, with coworkers, with the chefs, on work when you have there someone who works for the health protection of employers engage those person 9. Research for help, print it out and give it to the person. When People are depressed they are so exhausted, looking for help cost so much energy, they mostly dont have it 10. Tell people that you love them. Tell them that you care. Or tell them that they look nice in the dress, ask them about the weekend. Care. For my part: even Hug them Care. This is something we want to do when its too late but this is the point: it is too late and it had come very very very earlierer. And 11 to all out there who struggle. CHOOSE to stay.

I'm someone that totally fit the bill..I had gfs, and I had a few friends, but depression, ptsd, severe anxiety, and a nightmarish home life/abuse made everything very hard. There were suicidal thoughts and attempts, there were cries for help. There were intrusive thoughts. The list goes on...but a few key things happened at the perfect time. My counselor became my godmother and convinced me I wasn't worthless, my father kicked me out and I moved in with my mom, and I had a fresh start at a new school, where I made a new small group of friends. Inside and out, things changed rapidly. My godmother told me later that she feared id be like these people. She said that the right things fell into place at the right time and now it's just a bad memory. If only people could reach out to these kids. These people. They need HELP....and maybe if we prioritized mental Healthcare and actually LISTENED to those who cry out, more lives would be saved. It hurts to see these things, not only because of the lives lost, but because I understand where they come from. I see where others could have intervened. We need change.

Great job (AGAIN) Eric. As a retired police commander who was forced into a (“murder by cop”) I’ve spent countless hours wondering how to end these killings. This HAS to be a Community Action! However, most people will sit back and hope someone else will take care of it. My “incident” happened on August 1989 and haunts me just as powerfully as it did at the time it happened. Psychology/psychiatry failed to help, and I’m teased mercilessly because I’m a woman and, “Never should have been there.” I believe that for the “shooter” (the cop) healing from the incident is worse than it is trying to convince a mass killer not to kill. The mass killers leave one or more “victims” than are seen or counted; the LEOs. Thank you for your interest and power Eric. Maybe some day someone like YOU may find the beginning of the cure. God bless, “Katiehawke” Commander, ret.

Absolutely THE best video you’ve done yet Derek…and the studio is awesome. I believe one good step towards understanding [potentual] mass murderers is beginning by watching knowledgeable contributors like you and continually read more & more true stories about those who want to kill. As a police officer I was forced to face off with a man who pretty much followed the “script” of what you spoke of here. It was “Him & me” and had his old gun not been a rusted mess, I may have not gone home to my family. I still fight PTSD almost daily (since 1989) & still dream about the “event”- I smell gunpowder, see his face & feel as though I lost my hearing (again) as I did temporarily that day. Sometimes the ”aftermath stories” are more painful than the actual event, and I’ve found that sharing the story with an interviewer like you is extremely helpful. I don’t want to teach young people “How To”, but “Why You Shouldn’t.” Keep up the great work Derek. I truly admire you! Chief Katiehawke 💙 P.S. I VERY MUCH enjoyed your video about Alec Baldwin’s interview with George Stephanopolis.

The weird thing is that they weren’t actually bullied, in fact they were the bullies.which puts that bullying video they did in a whole new disturbing light. They were reported inaccurately this way at the time but they did actually date, in fact one of them went to a dance ( with a girl) a few days before the massacre. They were angry and violent, not introverted and bullied. They had a big group of friends, ( they were not a part of the trench coat mafia). They did however act antisocially but neither family mistreated them to the extent that it would create any sociopathy.

There's some overlap in your risk going up as a retail worker. You figure anyone can come in a retail store. Co workers have drama not just with each other but in their personal lives so if someone wants to hurt them, they might be willing to step over others to do it. Very few places have any type of formal security as in a person watching for violence specifically. If anyone is there at all, it's typically someone with minimal training. Things escalate even faster when you mess with 2 main things: money and food. Retail places that have options like in store credit cards and layaway are said to have more assaults then small businesses yet they have more personal crime and far more fatal crimes.

I like this approach. Its something we need to see more from the government and celebrities. Mental illness is a big problem and the root of many other problems. We need to start taking care of this. What is causing people to get depressed and go crazy? How can we help once they begin getting depressed? What is making depression worse? How can we actually do something about it? I don't know what the answers are here but those are some really good questions for people to start figuring out. Instead of dumping tons of money into asking really dumb questions we should be dumping money into researching these questions.

Seems like too often their parents don’t have an understanding of signs of depression and mental illness and clearly don’t have a clue what’s going on with their kids . I understand especially teenagers may not be open with their parents , but good parenting and communication takes years to build. I’ve noticed severely mentally I’ll young people whose parents are absolutely in denial about the state of their child . Educated people who simply couldn’t t be that clueless and ignored me or basically asked me to leave when I brought up my concerns with them. They , if their child’s under 18 should be held partially responsible unless they can show they had recognized and were doing everything possible to get their child help.

This is an awesome breakdown video. In order to stop these mass murderers, it's going to take the community and better red flags laws to get the gun out of the hands of these people first. Also, people have to be aware of their actions and how people are treated. People can be selfish and don't care about the other person which sends these mass murderers into a darker spiral of loneliness and need for validation. Most of these are men, the main reason is that men tend to act more and have more aggression compared to women. Society needs to help men out as well so they feel like a place of belonging. Most of the time, the gun isn't the issue it's society. Now sometimes these murderers are just crazy, awkward, and need a figure to put them in their place as well.

Can you also do an analysis of a serial killer? I’ve always been curious what goes on in their mind. It’s really not human nature to kill another person. Let alone multiple people. Usually, after you do something against human nature, you get a strong sense of remorse. But, why do serial killers not seem to not have that?

I think it’s totally in human nature to kill people, why else have we been doing it forever? Wars have had people kill each other for how long? If you can justify it with your own logic then why would you feel remorse? I’m sure many war hero’s have died with plenty of ptsd from the shelling and bombs but I doubt many regretted killing their enemy. I also doubt all police feel bad for a justified shooting, he pulled the knife/gun. easy his life or mine, I’d feel no remorse in that situation either. These people were able to justify it in their head. Just be nice to the people you go to school with and work with and you might be one of the lucky sobs like in this video that the serial killer passes by.

It's really fucked up how the target of bullies are the ones that often end up as these mass shooters. There is so much to unpack with that fact, especially when you consider that the bullies themselves continue to live on free despite how much of a part they played in the awful act whether they ever recognize it or not.

13:32 I think it could help for other kids to reach out to those kids who are outcasts…you see a kid sitting alone at lunch because nobody will sit with them because of their “status?” Sit with them. The kid who everybody makes fun of because they’re poor/smelly/“weird”? Make a point to say hello to them with a smile, make a little small talk. _Be_ that light in their darkness; let them know that they are *not* alone. I know I used to do that kind of thing back in school and I was told it made a difference in their lives. And yet, I think because I was nice to _everyone,_ I didn’t get made fun of for reaching out.

Idk why but I was just thinking of those twins that killed their parents. People literally defend them. They basically say that their parents abused them really badly when they were young. Which is terrible but doesn’t make an excuse to kill them. The people who do defend them usually just defend them bc they think they’re cute. Which is messed up.

@@fa-gr8zz It's actually related to Adam and Eve. The reason is all of us have free will, we all could choose to act on the mental illness. I am biplolar. Raised with extreme violence and abuse since 3 years old. I was bullied mercilessly and by those in leadership roles, and family members. We all aren't going to commit evil acts. Allowing ur children to have access to porn and violent video games is NOT helping them and their impulses.

As a licensed therapist, I hear a lot of folks comment that ‘we need to be looking at mental health.’ And as a licensed therapist, if I became concerned that someone was at risk of harming others, the first step I would be obligated to take per my code of ethics would be to assess the person’s intent, and access to means, I.e. firearms. So we end up back at how accessible guns are. There is no diagnosis that predicts that they will do something like this.

As family members and friends, we also need to be proactive and recognize the warning signs. A lot of times these killers display red flags and it is either ignored or brushed off (i.e. Ethan Crumbley). We need to do better as a society.

DEREK, PLEASE, PLEASE do a video on Courtney Love's body language on Kurt Cobain's death. There's many interviews of her, especially just after he died. She's slipped up in interviews and I really think it would be interesting and amazing if you could disect what she says and does. She is a narcissist /sociopath, even her dad says this! She's always contradicting herself surrounding the events of Kurt's "death".So yeah please think about it I think a lot of people would appreciate it, thanks. ✌

The actual ultimate criminal mind, labels people according to their actions, making up diagnostics and calling them "mass murderers", distinguishing them from anyone who commits murder. Everyone is a potential murderer. Many, just out of seeking pleasure due to personal frustration and limitations. There is no way to prevent them. Just making them less unlikely and easy to detect by the promotion of good values in society. No less than that.

  • @proverbial4252

Labeling others as such without actually considering in depth what's behind their actions, is just finding the comfort of feeling distant from such deviation. As if it weren't just the surrounding conditions what made the difference between the observed and the observer. Till someone actually develops a conscience, a true conscience (which most don't during their entire lives), is just as good as a candidate to commit an atrocity as anyone else in the same state of growth amd developement. It's all a matter of developement and strenght versus limitating conditions and weakness.

I have a question to myself and for others. Will you pay a 25c, 50c or maybe a dollor everyday for a peace? I will, I wish I can treat everyone with a peace of chocolote, cup of tea or coffee or any kind of food. I think everyone needs some kind of positive attention. What we need just share a minute or maybe less of our time everyday for peace and harmony. Thats my opinion. Love you all
