Tattle Boad Judging by the quality of your post/argument, you're probably closer to ten years old than I am, but would you rather the 2013 VGX be a soulless, completely vapid experience or would you rather it be at the very least entertaining? The 2013 VGX weren't even televised, but nice try there. Acting like an aloof, self-deprecating dickhead is pretty much McHale's schtick, so it's the award show's fault for not realizing what they were getting themselves into (like when Stephen Colbert was invited to the White House Correspondent's Dinner). The 2013 VGX (and most of the Spike VGA's up until that point) was marred by low production value and utter lack of enthusiasm for the most part - at least McHale brought that to the show. I would rather watch an entertaining mess than a vapid one.

How about skip rap altogether. How about since it's , you know "games", how about we bring the people who make the soundtracks. No, not the douche bag who is licensed to be in a fucking radio station of a game. I am talking about the guy who slaved with an orchestra for months to bring the skyrim sound track, that guy who borderline writes a Mozart worthy symphony theme every fucking assassin's creed, and that guy that made the fucking soundtrack to Deus Ex Human Revolution. The soundtrack gets no recognition in games.

The VGX were trying to make the awards more like the MTV awards, forgetting that the MTV awards have been shit for the past 11 years.

Make a video about it and have everyone highlight the youtube logo as an issue, and let google know that they're ruining the gaming community on youtube. Sounds like the VGX Awards were done by a bunch of teenagers.

Joel was the best. He was a highlight of the entire show. He was the outsider, a person that's not really into games, that came into the "gaming" crowd and saw all the ass-licking, commercialization, cheesiness, casualization, he saw it. And he cringed. That's why he was sarcastic, why he was constantly trying to ask uncomfortable questions and expose the bullshit pouring out of these greedy developer's mouths. I want more, more of that, more Joel, Conen O'Brian, people that aren't "inside" and can give their honest opinions.

This would work... if it was a comedy skit. I understand your point for him to be the "straight" guy in these situations but it is just excessive to say the least. So many game developers who are talking passionately about their game have to deal with his nonsense eventually cutting the interview short before things got out of hand. Angry Joe here nailed it. The VGX really needs to shutdown it's bullshit tirade if it plans to take itself more seriously. We want a gaming show about gaming, this means titles like "Shroud of the Avatar" from Richard Garriott himself. Where is this interview? Bring veteran game developers to talk about game design and concepts. Get them more obscure developers and bring them to the spotlight to show how diverse gaming can be. I can't believe I'm saying this but the VGA awards is actually more entertaining than this, and it incorporated every negative point Joel tried to call out from. This would be the first and last VGX I will pay attention to. Unless I heard they've corrected this problem for next year, I won't be viewing it any longer. A total waste and opportunity and I hope Geoff rectifies this problem next time around.

Michael Mike The whole ceremony was a joke because the "gaming" industry is a fucking joke. Nominated games were all AAA "cinematic" QTE crap, with no soul or substance in them. Joel saw that, Joel has to deal with much more advanced bullshit in TV and movie industry every day, so seeing the low-tier bullshit that is sold to 16-yo "target demographic" of AAA crap was hilarious to him.

I say the gaming side of TGWTG (including spoony or any other willing past members), the AVGN, Machinima, RT, egoraptor, and Mega 64 should get together and do their own video game awards. Look if RT could get a convention, then I'm sure you all combined could put something together, and honestly, we'd have the potential for the best internet crossover event of all time.

Why don't we just get a ton of KZread gaming/review channels together and hold our own award shows on our own website.

They should've known better than to have Loiter Squad there, as if they were expecting the group to actually do a good job. Since when has Odd Future/Loiter Squad ever presented something in a professional and serious manner?

It also doesn't change the fact that he was put last in line, and that he basically had to grab Geoff at the last second and was told to hurry it up since he didn't have much time. How you can possibly defend Geoff "Doritos" Keighley in that situation is beyond me. That guy was about as big a dick as they come.

Very true.I would like to add how the media that is paid off by corporations who hire ACTORS to act a certain way. Seem to be more geared toward the snarky rude "wanna be nerd" when it comes down to video games. There always has to be some "not so witty" shit talker who thinks they are witty. Its been such a major influence to many...it has become apparent in every day life...well almost.You notice it when you go to a game stop,a convention,and/or comicbook store you end up dealing with a bunch of snarky nerds who think they are edgy when in reality they are corny and lame as fuck! I don't remember gamer humor being this rude,this lame,and lacking actual humor either. I also remember my roomies claiming to be nerds.They can draw,they collect collectables,however the more I observed them the more I realized it was more of a TREND rather than something of a hobby one can enjoy immersing themselves in.I just facepalm myself when I get some dumb ass who thinks they are so fucking clever when in reality they are dumb as fuck! These types including the rest of the wannabe nerd generation are nothing but clones what used to be the real deal.

I worry that the game companies wanted VGX to be a joke and not truly give game awards. Once awards are given to game titles the customer knows which ones are of higher quality and will choose to ignore the non-awarded titles. Instead they make the game ratings and the whole show a joke, get payed a lot by GTA's Rockstar and show previews of all titles making it a gigantic game commercial that each game company can agree on. What Angry Joe negotiated sounds better to us gamers who watched the VGX, but turning it into a giant buy all games commercial was music to the game companies' ears.

Joe, I have a serious question for you: why bother saving the Spike game awards? The Spike awards have ALWAYS been terrible and meaningless. Why save that? All the picks are obvious and often ad-related. The people running the show (on the network level) clearly don't give two shits about video games, either. Why on earth would you want MORE of that?

This is basically the equivalent of the Oscars, just a bunch of developers giving each other handjobs. It's a popularity contest where games that already have gotten a ton of exposure and press get even more.

the worst part was that THE LAST OF US should have won game of the year, it was clear that GTA Vwon because of its popularity, but THE LAST OF US is the better and more memorable game.

I thought about the same thing Romeo, but i believe that the votes are made by the viewers, right? Im not sure. In my opinion GTA5 won because its a multiplatform game, i think if the last of us was on Xbox then i think there was a big possible chance that it would have won... Still, its your personal opinion that you are stating here, keep that in mind. You should try to bring you opinion like that, 'your opinion'. Your saying it like its a proven fact that the last of us is the better and more memorable game..... The winter chapter alone in TLOU was better than anything I had played this year. The structure, storytelling and pacing was perfect. Just incredible. Something I and alot of gamers will remember for years to come.

Mack Bradley I'm not trying to defend that guy, but no one played the multiplayer. I mean NO NO. Everyone assumed it was just a tacked on, piece of shit thing and ignored it. When really, it is one of the best multiplayer experiences I have ever taken part in. Shit, there were some people who didnt even KNOW it had a multiplayer, and they just sold the thing to gamestop after beating the campaign. What a shame.

Joel McHale wasn't the problem. He just compounded the fact that they were able to put together a 3 hour show with almost no gameplay, minimal awards, weird celebrity guests, and forced commercial stuff...

Tyler the Creators lyrics were absolutely horrible. Hate all you want but, this sort of thing is why I stopped listening to rap and listen to rock. Are there horrible rock songs? Yes. But it's less common in rock than in modern day rap. I don't even know what people are thinking these days when they like people that talk about raping pregnant women and calling it a threesome. That is absolutely appalling and I realize now that this world is losing all hope very quickly.

In all his albums it's a little story. This song was written from (I'm pretty sure) the antagonist who is a crazy guy and says crazy shit

They won't listen, these award shows are just circlejerks for fanboys and casuals, Joe should just make his own awards show with Polaris but more budget.

VGX was practically the video game awards for hipsters.

The VGX is not the Award Show gamers want right now its the Award Show gamers need. LOL not even I could say that without laughing.

I love Jole Mchale so much for this. He's like kid in class who is smarter than the teacher and gets assigned some standardized, uncreative assignment and then proceeds to completely subvert the teacher's expectations by brilliantly mocking the assignment, while simultaneously undermining the educational institution as a whole. Anyone who hires this guy as their spokesperson does so at their own peril.

The VGX awards were a fucking joke. It reeked of a major "bro" bias and just awful execution. Joel was unfunny and clearly had no interest in the project. The prerecorded production felt rushed and cheap. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds was not even nominated for best Action/Adventure game. Instead GTA V was nominated. It's not even a fucking Action/Adventure game. And GTA V winning best game over Last of Us? What a load of shit. Cramming more shit onto a disc with a 400 million dollar budget is not an achievement. Making you bawl within twenty minutes of gameplay and revitalizing an almost hopelessly stale genre is an achievement. We need a real game awards show, live and on a stage. Winners would be chosen by an "academy" of sorts with a history in the gaming industry. Games would be evaluated on their appeal, artistic merit and technical achievement. And a conscious effort would be made to avoid fanboy favoritism.

spongeaang98 blood dragon doesn't really count as dlc. its a standalone game, you don't need fc3 to play it. I think in the future games like that will become a sort of genre on their own.

johnny millennium is prob my favourit youtuber in terms of gaming content. He seems like a cool guy and his videos seem like they actually are honest and come from his heart.

After watching the 2010 VGA video and this back to back, I gotta say Joe and Geoff have my respect. Joe's passion and vision for a better VGA, and in some places Geoff's, really make the whole fight between them tragic. Even with how heated things got, Joe always gave real advice on where to improve and gave credit to the shows many improvements. This video ends with telling us how they met up and reconciled before the 2013 show's disgraceful display, and that really speaks to both of their characters. Geoff's speech about how NMS (regardless of how it played out in the future) inspired him and showed what his hope for the show really was. This was truly sincere and commendable. 2013 was the last showing for the VGA's ever, but I think people like Joe could have helped Geoff really reach that vision they both shared for a better award show for gamers. I wish them the best and hope that one day we will have that award show.

You know that when the announcement of an elderly ape being playable is the HIGHLIGHT of your awards show, it's time to pack it in.
