" yes, and ALSO not afraid to agmit his OWN participation in the idiocy and lies of the Bush / Chenry / Rumsfeld / Rice et al administration (if you can call it that.) He was THERE, and is spending the rest of his life at least SPEAKING to undo some of the damage. (All the rest are zipped - lipped and cowering behind their little secret service details, hoping no one will ever notice. They are NOT patriots! He is. He has... what's that thing called? INTEGRITY! (and the courage of David! He laughs at clumsy Goliath, soon to fall. )

Well, looking at more than 5 minutes of history, that doesn't hold true as often as you think, when a nation has economic difficulties the majority of the time it is too riven with internal divisions expending what little capital it has remaining keeping it's own peasants in line to go to war with another nation. However, there are times, when an economic collapse causes members of the far left or far right to be elected by populations who have lost faith in traditional centrist political candidates, caused by the populations breaking left and right in search of change. The left who want to change the economics to favour the majority before the few at the top usually gets crushed by a tag team of the centrists, the right, the far right, the media, and the rich who own them all simultaneously, manufacturing the consent of enough of the people for the politicians and policies the rich prefer. During such times when traditional candidates have lost legitimacy, the rich hitch their wagon to the nearest populist demagogue who goes from mostly laughed at school yard bully to authoritarian leader in the blink of an eye. If the candidate is dumb, the rich can keep the demagogue on a leash to do their bidding, i.e. Trump. If the candidate is intelligent, he uses his accumulated power to break the leash by demolishing his political rivals including the contemporary right who elevated him and makes the rich dance to his tune if they are to continue being so under his rule, i.e. Hitler. With the left under wraps and no credible opposition, the demagogue then blames "insert minority of choice" for all the problems of that nation rather than the failures and contradictions of capitalism and it's incompatibility with democracy that caused all I've described to begin with. This is not a tale unique to capitalism mind you, it has been repeating with ever greater severity over millennia, a result of 12,000 years of top down anti democratic economic systems condensing the wealth and power of a society from many, unto few. Slave system >Feudalism > Capitalism & yes old school thinking on socialism and communism also had the same result. We keep repeating the same top down organisation of people, while expecting a different result. Trouble is now, as a global civilisation, physics is telling us we no longer have time to make such catastrophic mistakes.
