Ukraine is just about 35km away from Russian borders, but the Solomon Islands is over 3000km from Australia. Yet, you have people trying to compare the dangers in proximities. The west has abused many nations in the past and are now jealous of the new relationship between these countries and China; an unfortunate scenario we are witnessing.

I am a Solomon Islander and appreciate the explanation and no bias opinions between the countries involved. For me as a Solomon Islander seeing no changes or beneficial deals being struck between USA or Australia like the climate change plans or listen to our concerns about climate change is a clear indication that they’re just having their own ambitions achieved and no care for the small countries. So i think as a sovereign country like the Solomons, it’s time to make our own decisions.

Just recently there was a riot in Solomon Islands. Solomon government asked Australia to send security forces to help. The Australian police went there to protect the Australian citizens, Embassy and business properties in Solomon Islands. However, the Australian government say their police would not help to protect the Chinese people, Embassy and Chinese properties in Solomon Islands. For this reason, the Chinese government signed a security deal with the Solomon to have Chinese security forces there to protect the Chinese interest in Solomon Islands. What is wrong with that?

Context and details are important. The Chinese embassy is Chinese territory and as such Australian representatives could not enter the land without formal prior permission from the Chinese government. The same protections in varying amounts applied to a lot if the embassy staff as well so again Australian forces couldn't legally interfere directly. That said, its not like the Australian peacekeeping forces would have done nothing to protect them, they could control public unrest or come up with some other heading to file it under, they just couldn't specifically undertake certain actions or go certain places because of the legal issues. The same issues would apply to the US embassy and staff except Australia can quickly get formal agreements in place with America, but trying to get china to sign an agreement to let Australian forces protect their staff and property would be near impossible.

AUKUS is a trilateral security pact between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, announced on 15 September 2021 for the Indo-Pacific region. Under the pact, the US and the UK will help Australia to acquire nuclear-powered submarines...." When the United States, Britain and Australia established AUKUS _Did they consulted with Solomon Indonesia and ASEAN_ ? Of course No. US and Australia completely ignored the feelings of Solomon, Indonesia, and other Southeast Asian countries. So _Why_ the United States and Australia are afraid of the security treaty signed by China and Solomon ? _This clearly demonstrates that the West is a barbaric and domineering regime_

It is mind boggling what Australia is thinking of invading the Solomon Islands because her government has chosen China instead of Australia? The people of Solomon Islands have the right to choose for themselves based on what China or Australia does to help them instead of exploiting their resources. People are not stupid, they have chosen China because China cares more for the welfare of the Solomon Islanders than the Australian do, just as simple as that.

It's not only double standars when it comes to the Ukraine issue it's right out cognitive dissonance. 1 Solomon Islands do not border Australia. Ukraine not only borders Russia but a significant portion of it's population are Russians, Crimeans born before 1955 still hold Russian citizenship and Ukraine itself was actually part of the one and same Russian Empire for centuries. 2. The Solomon Islands and China are not in any military alliance, not have ever targeted Australia or US. Ukraine wanted to join NATO an alliance primarily created to defend against USSR Russia specifically, and had over the years turned into an aggressor regime change alliance. (Serbia, Iraq, Libya etc) 3. The Solomon Islands are not persecuting it's own people nor any Australian or American minority that may be living there . Ukraine outlawed the use of Russian language, persecuted ethnic Russians, tore up agreements (Minsk), and the Americans even violated the Budapest Memorandum (article3) by installing their own government in a coup. The Kiev regime even created their own state funded Ukranian Christian religion to persecute the official centuries old Church because it encompassed both the Russian and Ukranian people and views them as one brotherly people. Identity politics in Ukraine turned the nation into a Rwanda waiting to happen.

NATO should retreat it's borders all the way to PARIS - France! Hmm! That's a pretty far step from Ukraine... Just saying! LOL 😂

The real reason the Solomon Islands chose to deal with China over Australia. Simple: Australia is there to steal all it can from the Solomon Islands and to attack any businesses that do business with Chinese businesses while China is there to look after not only its own merchants on the Solomon Islands but to actually protect the government and the people of the Solomon Islands from the bullying and attacks of the Australian military. China believes in give-and-take relationship it called "win/win proposition" while Australia being the thief and colonizer that it is still clings to the notion that it could simply go into another country and steal whatever it wants to steal as long as it has a more dominant military. This mindset of the Anglos is the reason why smaller countries all over the world are choosing to deal with China rather than the US, UK, or Australia!

'Respond accordingly' means temper tantrum and lots of crying. The little problem for the US with Ukraine is that John McCain and others attended the Maidan coup in 2014 to see the results of their work. They undermined democracy in Ukraine and set up/funded a stooge govt to do its bidding. Its bidding is: continual harrasment of the Donbass area, banning Russian language in schools, proclaiming Stepan Bandera as a national hero of Ukraine (never mind he collaborated with the Nazis and killed millions of jews), set up far right militias, trained Ukraine forces (US and Canada)....all of this is extremely offensive to anyone of Russian ethnicity. But....its all about democracy....pewk. The level of malevolence by the US is astounding. It is all intended to irritate, humiliate, kill Russian constituents and anger Moscow. Go research it for yourself, its all there.

Yep, while the US does have a habit of invading other countries, more often than not they only do so after inciting a regime change and then having things backfire when the new regime still doesn't do what they want them to. This isn't conspiracy, its all on official record, but its insane how many times the US have done it. When the claims about Russian election interference started being made l really had to laugh, apparently its ok for American to do it, but not for anyone else. Even more messed up when it turned out the claims were completely fabricated, then even worse when it turned out that Hillary was actually heavily tied to certain Russian interests. Honestly its incredible to think how messed up the views of so many people are thinking there are good and bad countries, the simple truth is that there are people, people almost always want peace and to get on with their lives and then their are leaders, leaders just keep playing games and often have no care about the cost to the people those games effect.

Hey Cyrus, I am Australian and I am completely embarrassed everytime our Prime Minister is mentioned in world affairs. You have hit every point bang on about his fialings re climate change and care for the Pacific Region Islands. I am surprised that it is 50% as America is working very hard at propaganda, painting China as an Enemy, abusing human rights, sending in Strom troopers into Hong Kong and always threatening Taiwan. They believe that the cities are filthy and people poor, no food and the recent lockdowns in Shanghai, one video of the foreign sector wailing on into the night has been claimed as a whole city. Yet, the food wasted and dumped because it was donated by farmers and therefore not washed before they got it, was insulting to those hard working farmers. How do I know...Like you, I have lived there, have family and a friend who flew back to her sick mother there and also living in Shanghai. Pictures speak louder than words from the Western media. The image of the Australian PM and the Pacific Islanders meeting on climate change, in the red shirts, was the last time he has had anything to do with them in a formal meeting. His social circles are more to be the lapdog of the USA President and have fights with the French...or should I say LIE to the French as he Lie's to the Pacific Islanders and us, the Australian people. He is no better at leading this country than either the 45th or 46th POTUS. As for trade, he has all but destroyed our once huge trade with China and all for HIS ego. That trade strangely enough was all picked up by US companies and all Australia now deals with China is ore. I challenged a radio station to say one good thing a day about China, for just one week and let people know what they have achieved in the short time from 1990. I was neither replied to amd hear nothing. I won't give up, I will say positive things out loud and in the face of every Australian, because I know they have never been to China. May 21st is our election day for a new federal government, All we can hope for is the end of Scomo as his polite name, is to be gone, his government and him as the best option, and a new Government with a tighter control on it in power. One that will be a positive actioned government to the climate change, cut defence spending, and work in our region of influence. Maybe we should send the PM of the Solomon Islands our latest Toy..A Scott Morrison Inaction Doll, complete with upside down smile and Hillsong repertoire. Then Morrison opened the hole under his nose and was instantly recognised globally as an idiot. Nobody threatened nuclear retaliation, it was all your typical MSM trolling. As for pollution, per capita they are way down the ladder compared to Australia and even the USA is now falling below Australia's pathetic profile. We are the only country that penalise people for buying EVs by imposing exorbitant prices on cars plus a bonus tax and then a charging tax on top of the charging fee. It's time to face the truth, Australia is shackled by the federal government who has lost us so much trade, because of Scumo's feelings. We also received pictures of the food wastage from some sectors and it was shocking. People were donating with their heart and soul, the best they had, driving in shifts to get the food there within 24hrs. Most people happily accepted it, but some just threw it out the windows into the street below. I'm talking about fresh fruit and vegetables in particular. As someone who has travelled in and out for 17 yrs and lived there for several yrs; worked in a role that had interaction with Govt agencies, I am surprised that the level of corruption has not been discussed. The current Solomon’s PM isn’t really interested in the long term future of the country. Just what $$ he can get out of the role… China essentially bribed / paid the govt to switch allegiances from Taiwan through the provision of funding that could be spent in any way the SI government wanted at a provincial level… ie not on infrastructure etc but luxury goods, drinking binges etc.

Funnily enough, probably not... But not for the reasons you would expect. The simple fact is that the fall of the previous rulers has been allowed to happen because they became complacent, its a cycle that has occurred over and over throughout history. Currently they are fighting each other because there is nothing threatening them, but when a significant threat does arise they will return to their old ways. Just look at what happened in Iraq and Afghanistan, the US failed against much much weaker countries, but they failed because they were playing with kid gloves, their people didn't see those countries as real threats so the military could never engage in all out war. Keep in mind, in Roman times there were lots of cultures and races in rome and they moved freely across much of Europe, but a few hundred years later they simply didn't exist. When the next real all out war occurs its going to be an extermination, or will at least send the remaining people back to starving Ethiopian levels of survival. Its tragic but its in our nature, we get along really well when there aren't any major problems, but when it comes down to people that look like me vs people that look like you, every race and group of people, even down to hairstyles and clothing choices, we always take the side if the people that on whatever level we most identify with.

It's funny that Australia has been caught naively dependent on trade with China. Australians like to laugh at themselves, and this is a good example. But of course Australia's defense aim is not to protect trade with China. No-one with honour will trade freedom for money. An even more ironic case could be made that China is increasing its military projection... not just to defend itself against its greatest trading partner, but to protect itself against the country which taught it how to be that great trading nation, which has nurtured it through its period of weakness to the point it is now strong enough to challenge its teacher.. Irony! China needs military spending to attack its teacher. Such a comedy sketch will not be made in China, of course. The government would not permit it. And that difference is what Australia is really seeking to defend.

It saddens me how much people jump on the white people bad bandwagon thus anything done by a white person must be bad idea. Same as ' believe all women ' as if women cant lie too. Personally l see the Solomon islands situation as being the same as Ukraine but not from the popular media driven viewpoint. Both countries have incredibly high rates of corruption, both were intended to be buffer zones to keep major powers from clashing directly and both have governments that have been heavily influenced from outside (thus its not self determination of the people, its just corruption and bribery of officials). My personal take on this situation is that rather than pushing the Solomons to stop the Chinese from having access, they should instead broker a deal that was in the best interests of the Solomons that very clearly stated that no foreign power would be allowed access for military personnel or equipment of any type. Make the agreement between all the major players and maje it state that should any member break the agreement that heavy penalties would be applied both by the solomons and the other countries potentially including military action.

It's important to note that Russia's security concerns over Ukraine joining NATO must be understood in the context of the US tearing up the Intermediate Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty with Russia in 2018. If Ukraine joined NATO, therefore, then there would be nothing to prevent placement of intermediate-range nuclear missiles in Ukraine, right on Russia's border. As you point out, in the real world, smaller, less-powerful countries that are geographically close to superpowers are NOT free to do whatever they might think is in their "best interests" in terms of military/ security arrangements. Hence, the Cuban Missile Crisis in the early 60s &, as you rightly point out, the inability of Mexico or Canada or any smaller, less-powerful country remotely close to the US forging military/security alliances with China (or Russia).

Almost all the financial aids from Australia and Taiwan went to Malaita Province for the same reason. The color revolution almost succeeded if not for the arrival of Chinese police and security force on the request of the Solomon Islands. At least there were more than 12 countries in the past 3 decades, that have regime changes successfully performed, eg., Libya, Sudan, 4 latin America states, etc. And recently, they tried Kazakhstan but failed. Look at HK too, without the Security Law, the HK students were harassing the HK police. Those "brainless" kids were brainwashed by a few student leaders like Joshua, who now rewarded with a scholarship to study at Harvard for his deeds spilling other people's children's blood. Those "kids" also defaced the Legislative Council House, much like the 6th Jan 2021 incident in Washington. So good to see that "what goes around, comes around." The truth of Galatian 6: 7.

Money is the key here and the Solomon Islands' government is well known for its corruption. From China's perspective, it is all about military access to the South Pacific, and it is willing to spend exorbitant amounts of money to gain that access. IOW, this has nothing to do with "security", as there is no external threat to the security of the Solomon Islands. There is, however, a grave security threat to the South Pacific region if China establishes any kind of military bases there.

Australia has been very lax in assisting with economic development in the Pacific Islands and PNG. Conversely, China has been very forward in pursuing mutual economic development with small developing nations around the world. As, for environmental issues, I think Australian domestic environmental concerns for economic development in the Pacific islands have hindered their progress and well-being. Australia has had a very paternalistic and colonial attitude to the Pacific islands that they are now trying to break free from. The situation in Africa is similar. After centuries of neglect by the colonising West, developing nations are embracing China's model of economic development to lift people out of poverty domestically and internationally.

The problem is rampant corruption, Australia has given huge sums of money to various Indo-Pacific governments but the money just gets syphoned off to various family members and their own tribes or clans. The cost to do relatively simple things like install power lines in PNG for example is likely to be at least 10x the cost in any normal country, but even then there is no guarantee anything will actually get built. As messed up a comment as this would sound to most, PNG was a much better country when it was still run by Australia, not just in terms of Australian interests, but in terms of the quality of life for the people of PNG. The crime rates are worse than most areas declared war zones, the statistics for rape, murder, violence and corruption put it as one of the worst countries on the planet these days. Its so bad that its not even taboo, when surveyed over 40% of males admitted to having raped a woman that isn't their wife. Its frankly sickening what happens in some of these countries and it makes you realise that perhaps there are worse things in this world than colonialism.

USA, UK, Australia announced AUKUS with the intention to arm Australia with Nuclear powered submarines 👇 "..
