This movie definitely deserved better (I remember so many people saying it was not that good but I loved it!). It's such a lovely story and the animation's spectacular in every sense.

I wanted to watch it so bad, but even Netflix only has it in localized dub for reasons utterly beyond me. It seems to be one of those "limited release victims"...

As a french person, Le petit prince (The little Prince) was a book I read a lot as a kid ! I think I'm still a child at heart because of it ! So of course when that movie was released I went to watch it. And I liked it but I thought that the second part was too much. Because I thought it would have been better to just let that girl leaving without knowing what happens next, that it was prettier. I thought that finally seeing what became of the prince was spoiling the poetic end of the book. But hearing you defend it and telling your view convinced me there could have been more that I thought at the time. (It was 6 years ago after all) Maybe I should watch it again.
Honestly i can't explain how important this movie was to me as a kid and how it still is. This really is how to make a great adaptation and we need more movies like that.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one that felt so represented by the little girl of the movie, I will never forget my reaction for when she started questioning if the little prince got back to the rose, that's something that never crossed my mind until that very moment.
When I had the book read to me I thought that the prince died at the end bc he didn’t understand that the snake would kill him.

idk if that was the intent or not, but that's also how I took it. Definitely made me sad for a while, but still its such a sweet book. Melancholy is such a weird feeling, its like sadness, peacefulness, and nostalgia (best word I could come up with to describe it) all wrapped up into a weird emotion burrito lol.

@@Starlight-rb3sp In the version I read, I remember there was a line where the prince tells the aviator not to follow him because his departure could be too painful to him. So I just assumed he knew he was going to die too... Well, kind of. It was a very fantastical story, so sometimes I still belived that he could have died and still made it back to his planet at the same time?
Personally, I think that they'd isn't show the lamp lighter in the movie is because the mother's planet is meant to replace it. The same way the Lamplighter would light it every minute, just because of the rules, even though they're no longer relevant, the mother would move the chips every five minutes because of a set of rules made for the little girl that meant nothing to her anymore.
I am going to be honest, the whole style of it was extremely good and I respected everyone who made the movie. Good movie, good story, good things that came with it.
I haven’t watched the video yet, but I absolutely love The Little Prince, both the book and the animated movie.
You know! The reason they might have gone for those three men in the movie it's because in children’s theater plays those three are always highlighted over the others as a lesson for the kids in the audience. I remember seeing plays of the book as a child and those three were the 3 best known. So I didn't think it was too weird when they focused on them in the movie. It made me super nostalgic and it was one of the reasons I got so attached to the movie 🥰 The message is so simple and clear and lovely. I loved your analysis!

I remember seeing this and deciding to watch it for fun I was not prepared for the emotional impact it had on me.
I remember when my first long-distance girlfriend urged me to watch the film. After we broke up, the film became a comfort for me. We broke up because we were very young (13 and 13) and yet it wasn't on bad terms. It was one of the few things she left me in a way. So yeah, this is an amazing film. Especially now that I'm older and can truly understand the message at play.
For once a book adaptation of an great book is as good as the book itself. Also, am I the only one that also watch the animated series?

This movie helped me cope with my grandfather's death. He and the aviator had so many similarities that it was impossible to not see parts of him as I watched, especially since we used to watch movies together as a way to bound. I'm so glad you covered this movie and reminded me of him.
I remember I first watched the movie on the plane when my mum told me it was a funny movie and when I watched it, my small self felt so many feelings as I put myself in the shoes of the main character while also understanding the rest of the characters and the little prince. I was able to absorb the message of the movie because of that, and when I watched it again (cuz Sky: cotl had an event based on the Little Prince) i felt those feelings once again, but was disappointed by how my mother didn’t understand it and my siblings only finding it to be an okay movie. It’s honestly such a nice adaptation and I was so happy when you posted this. Thank you!
I love how this isn't an adaptation, BUT the aftermath of the aviator and the world after the princes death. And I love how the movie still included the story of the book (except some of the planets) and managed 2 beautiful art styles with beautiful effects and colors. The message is very clear, and I can see it speaking to some people in a deeper level. I really wish more people talked about this movie, as I absolutely loved it, and it is one of the best storys I have ever seen
For me this movie is special. Due to the fact that I found out about the original book when I was just a bit older than Little Prince himself, and when I watched the movie I felt some beautiful reconnection with a grown up Prince. Because I fell down into the same path of just working working and working. All childhood happiness just gone away. You a grown up now, no time for fun and joy in simple things. But... The movie actually helped me to see how sad my inner child was. And I found a hero who is the same as I am. And if he can become happy, I can be happy too.
Ok 1. I remember my 10th grade French teacher (who was also a Spanish teacher) showed us this movie once 2. Thank you for explaining "taming" (it's been mentioned in OneShot a lot, but I never really understood it)

“Your Mileage May Vary”, ah I see someone’s been reading their TV Tropes.
12:16 I wouldn't call that a car accident; the Old Man was driving an ancient car even though he had his license revoked, along with the fact that he was driving with a minor who's unrelated to him without the parent's knowledge. Just looking at it from a realistic legal POV.
i’m going to seek the little prince under the giggling stars over sahara, i’ll walk each dune for him. one day.
bro i saw this movie and i seriously loved it. i was at my friends birthday party when i saw it and it made me so amazed. i was really happy when i saw it was added to Sky Cotl
I found this movie one time in a cheap store by a corner, picked it up because why not?, and then absolutely fell in love with it, everything from the visuals to the story held a place near my heart, and it honestly hurt so much when none of the people I knew would recognize it, so this is just amazing
YALL YALL, hear me out, The mom IS the lamp lighter
why does nobody talk about the 1974 adaptation? with Gene Wilder as the Fox!! it's so freaking adorable!!!
And the music is so soothing!
This was my childhood book, and this movie made me way happier than it had any right to be back when it came out!
We had a conversation about this version of The Little Prince under your previous video about Peter Pan 2 so it's a bit surreal to see it covered by you. I saw The Little Prince in the theaters when it came out and it was the best theater experience I ever had - it was only me, my brother, and two elderly ladies. Also, this movie should be shown as an example of how to make a transformative adaptation. Amazing work they did here, it certainly would be easier to just slap a generic story on top of the book and ship it as it is, but they actually took time to understand what the book is talking about and integrated it into the story. I tip my hat.

The glass dome is also a parallel to the one used to protect the Rose.
Half of the reason I watch these videos is to hear the eargasmicly satisfying “I want to talk…about…”, and the “well, hello there” and “mmmmmmbyeeeeeee” at the end
Last year I read The Little Prince to my mother over voice recordings. When I got to the part of the Aviator/Narrator explaining his turmoil over the Little Prince's death, I actually started tearing up and my voice broke. I'd listened to the audiobook several times, but actually reading it aloud and processing the sadness of the situation just broke me.
This movie literally saved my life. It made me realize that I'm not afraid of growing up; I'm afraid of forgetting what it was like being a kid. This movie makes me cry a lot more now that I'm older 😢😭
This movie isn't an ADAPTATION of The Little Prince... It's ABOUT The Little Prince... It's META...
I remember seeing this in my senior year of French class (after we read the book - in French). It was... also still in French (the English version wasn't available, as it had just recently come out and no one had the rights yet - it was also impossible to find, at all, and our teacher had to use a European DVD player because the disk wouldn't play on an American one).

god this movie was one of my favourites for the longest time and i thought it was amazing!! this video reminded me how much i loved it so thank you!
I absolutely adore this movie. It hits home in so many different ways, especially since it hit Netflix in the UK just almost a year after my Nanna died. By the time I watched it I was just coming out of the shock of finishing university while grieving, had no certainty about my future, and was basically literally just entering the post-education adult world in many ways and it TERRIFIED me. The movie makes me cry so much, but ultimately it's cathartic and hopeful, and beautiful.
Its a good thing this story approves of having a childlike nature, because my favorite thing in the whole movie is her sentient fox plush, aka the CUTEST FREAKING THING IVE EVER FREAKING SEEN. And I'm just like.... what a toddler-level take on my part. 😂
I'll be honest, I haven't heard of Le Petit Prince until Sky: Children of the Light announced the season, and I had to read it before the event started. I read it at 3 AM after listening to Zelda music, and it was an incredible experience. I really love this book a lot,,,

this video is spectacular, and reading all of the wonderful positive comments about this movie makes me so so happy! the director Mark Osborne is such a genuinely lovely guy and has been a wonderful mentor to me, but he's always regarded this film with a bit of sheepishness. i don't think he realizes just how spectacular and well-loved this film is, but hearing him talk about its conception and his process is always a treat. i'm a bit disappointed that this video didn't talk about him at all, because so much of his personal heart and passion is present in the way this movie was made, but i can't really complain bc you've broken down the themes and intentions behind it so perfectly!

I'm really glad people are talking about this movie. I remember watching it on Netflix when it first came out and I really loved it. My Mom had read me the book years before I watched the movie and I also really enjoyed that despite the melancholy feeling it has. Really good book and a really good movie. Funny thing: I actually have The Little Prince book (the very same copy my mom read to me when I was little) on my desk right now!
The little prince’s narrative is underwhelming unless you think critically. Really captures the vibe of the book!
I’ve seen this movie so many times I was obsessed with it when it came out
Now, THIS is a wonderful review for this film. Left room for creative license, understood the point of the little girl, and understands that the stories are both pretty open ended. Both leaving room for hope. I'd love to see your thoughts on The Last Unicorn if you have the time. (This video is also so much better than Animat's)
I have a very clear memory of this movie at the cinema. I went with a friend who also enjoyed movies a lot and loved the little prince. We both said "They dared to make a movie of The Little Prince, what the hell were they thinking? That can't be adapted, It will most certainly be horrible ... Do you want to go see how your childhood is raped and massacred with me? "So we went with our heads full of plans to complain throughout the movie ... and neither of us spoke. Not a word, not a whisper. We both sat there the whole movie, side by side with our eyes fixed on the screen, Against all odds, loving every second of that movie, almost crying over the fact that for once, Someone not only read the original source, but went to great lengths to show how much they love it. The world is very weird sometimes, when I don't like a movie, everyone will hear ad nauseam all the details of what is wrong with that (in my opinion). But when I love a movie.... It turns out that all I can say is "It's beautiful, go see it"
I really loved this re-interpretation of the book.
This is brilliant
I didn’t quite enjoy this movie as I had hoped I would, but I really liked how the adapting this story was done. It was also what lead one of my dearest friends to read the book, which, considering her tastes, I found it astounding she hadn’t done that as a child already.

I adored this movie simply for existing. I have read the book so many times throughout my life that seeing it be acknowledged was like having the world give me a gift. I agree that missing out on some of the asteroids was a bummer but, on the whole, it made me cry just as much as the book has, so i think it was pretty successful!
Some people struggle applying the lessons from the book to their lives in today's world. The movie remedies that. Great combo.
This is such an underrated film. I wish more people would see this genuine masterpiece.
I remember watching this movie 3 or 4 years ago. I really enjoyed the film and it is one of the best memories that I have. Something that I thought was very outstanding was the score. You know how she said that every page in the book had a piece of melancholy? thats what I felt with the score. It made the movie over all made me feel melancholy. I am glad to finally understand what made this movie so special.
I haven't read the book (though I want to) but when I watched this movie for the first time with my mom, I thought The Little Prince was gonna be an allegory for death. Mostly because the old man told the little girl that he was planning to go visit The Little Prince & when the girl said she wanted to go with him, the man told her that he had to go alone, that she couldn't go with him. So, for a good chunk of the movie, I was sweating in my seat thinking the old man was gonna die. I told my mom this after the movie ended & she told me that a theory she had in her head was that the rose The Little Prince loved was an actual person & that The Little Prince was gonna get reunited with this "Rose" woman. I actually kind of like how the movie took us both on two different mental paths.
