For the Marie Antoinette thing, she didn’t actually say let them eat cake like ever. It was French revolutionary propaganda that had been attributed to multiple French nobles for years and the earliest examples found are dated around the time she was 10 to 12 years old years before she left Austria for France to marry and would have been speaking French conversationally enough to be quoted as saying such. The phrase just stuck to her as she was the most famous person to be accused of saying it, she was actually quite a sweet but sheltered woman who apologized to her executioner for tripping over his foot right before he cut her head off.

From what I've read she said instead "let them eat brioche" instead of cake but it's been some time so I might be wrong, and I agree with that, if anything Marie Antoniette was pretty much a sheltered woman, the only thing she knew was the life she was given and though that was all there was.

this is true, she was likely never even aware of this quote in her lifetime. the french revolution was the beginning of the end for civilization. shadow organizations convinced the populations to overthrow the monarchies that where protecting them from subversive elements too well, so a mass propaganda campaign was started to make people think the ruling class was full of tyrants and democracy was such a great thing. it is really interesting to look into, pretty much everything you were probably taught about this time period is a lie. look up charlotte corday, she had an interesting story too. a young assassin who murdered marat, reasoning, "i have killed one to save one hundred thousand". ironically, however, it was this assassination that kicked off the terror and led to the execution of hundreds of thousands. her heart was in the right place, but she failed at her goal spectacularly. i would love to see a good HBO series about her, lol.

@@someoneovertheinternet4417"Qu'ils mangent de la brioche !" was penned by Jean-Jacques Rousseau. He attributed the words to a "great princess," but never gave any names. But as OP stated, his book was published when Maria Antoinette was a child, so even if a real princess actually said it, it definitely wasn't her. Antoinette is actually a rather fascinating historical figure, who was, and continues to be, very unfairly scapegoated and maligned. Google "the Diamond Necklace Affair" for an excellent example of this, along with a scandalous bit of historical hijinx

Story of my experience with people like this. It's lengthy, though provides an example that supports your point: I used to be in a discord server that I'd thought was comprised of open minded people, since they all said they were welcoming of everyone. And yet, if I had a different opinion from the group, I was given the bell of Shame. One of the girls would instantly block someone that made her a little uncomfortable or angry, or experience any negative emotion (read that as 'has a different point of view,' and 'likes something she doesn't') No agreeing to disagree, no attempt to work things out to find a compromise, no interaction whatsoever. Nothing. Just feeling upset, so... EMOTIONS! BLOCK. GHOST. Done. I'd asked in the main room - kindly, btw - why she'd blocked me. I wanted to know what set her off so I could be mindful in the future. Someone else said, "Oh, that's how she regulates." Regulates? Regulates what? She's doing the equivalent of sticking her fingers in her ears going, "lalala, I can't hear you! You do not exist!" Then that person said something to the effect of, "You don't need to know why she blocked you. It's actually really rude of you to ask in the main room. How could you do that?! This whole thing is worse that what (other person they banned) did!" Then I got banned and blocked by everyone, turned themselves into victims, and turned me into a pariah. They pasted all of their issues on me so they could have a target to beat up, saying how evil and rude I am. Yeah, that hurt me a lot, since no one even bothered to talk to me about what could have upset them. I personally didn't matter. It was all about their emotions. Their mental health. Selfish, and narcissistic. That only confirmed my growing suspicions that everyone in that group (teenagers and adults - some close to my age) needed therapy. They were a collection of people wearing multiple minority and mental issues labels like scout badges. The were so fragile that one wrong word choice would send them into a frenzy of victim mode. Honestly, they were anything but welcoming, and I'm glad they all blocked me on every platform. They only invited me since I'm writing a story they enjoyed. So, I set my story to 'mature' and blocked them in return to keep their eyes off my work. If they were going to treat me like garbage as if they're all innocent, then none of them get to benefit from what I've spent months working on. They've made new accounts in order to read it, all while holding up their collective middle finger in my face. All of my new followers have stayed suspiciously quiet. Hmmm... I'm not mad that they blocked me like toddlers who haven't learned how to use their words yet (again, 30+-somethings were in that group, too). What hurts is that they're using me. It's that childish behavior of consuming while ghosting me and hating me, muting me as if new chapters simply poof into existence for their entertainment and pleasure. Like they can delete me from existence. I have to keep an eye out for my work being reposted, because they want to share the story (they obviously still like it) without me - the author - involved in any way. This is what this generation (and infantile adults) do. They're so used to cancel culture that they automatically do it without feeling a hint of empathy. But apparently, in their minds, cancelling is called "regulating." I won't set my work to 'subscribers only' mode so that people have to pay for it, because there are a few thousand others who enjoy it and who have nothing to do with this. I'm not going to let this small group of idiots ruin it for the rest of the class.

We actually know Maria Antoinette did not say "Let them eat cake." Jean-Jacques Rousseau actually wrote it in his book, which came out when Antoinette was a small child. Antoinette was actually rather charitable and gave money to the poor. Though she certainly wasn't perfect, history really has maligned her unfairly, and she and her whole family died pretty horribly, so just correcting a bit of commonly quoted misinformation. Here's another one: Mary Magdalene wasn't actually a prostitute. There is a story in the Bible about Jesus absolving a prostitute, but it is never stated that is Mary. Pope Gregory I conflated the two characters, back around 600 B.C. Thanks Greg! 🤦‍♀️
