I went from Denmark to Monaco on a 2016 Duke 390, a trip around about 3500 km. Using the Autobahn some of the way, I can definitely tell you that it gets rather uncomfortable and shakey. But it's manageable, and once you get to something like Switzerland, and go up into the mountains... Man I swear it's worth everything... That trip on the KTM was probably one of the best things I have experienced on a motorcycle.

thanks for that line! I live in Switzerland and planning to get this bike. max allowed speed here is 80 kmph (120 on the highway ofc) and usually 60-40 in the mountains. so it doesn't seem to make sense to buy a bigger bike than this. Even if I later buy a bike for bigger tours, I'd still keep this one for the mountain fun

@@marcellsimon2129 What you say is very reasonable. More restrictive speed limits will soon be intruduced all over Europe. Even the Germans are seriously discussing a max of 130 kph on the Autobahn. Already now you are not allowed to go faster than 100 - 130 on the majority of German Autobahnen. Here in Austria we are discussing 80 on two lane highways and a general 100 on the Autobahn, which already is the limit on many routes. So the Duke 390 is more than fast enough.

Transmission gave out I believe. Downshifted from 6th to 5th while exiting freeway, felt a click then couldn’t downshift any further. Unfortunately my mechanical skills are limited and I don’t have friends close by with riding and mechanical skills.

Uh.. no, it doesn't cost extra $2000 to add the KTM My Ride to the motorcycle. I just paid $28 to activate it and $50 for labor to update the computer and can use it with my phone. And navigation isn't even an option on the smaller 390 duke. Also no, Super Moto mode is not there to let you do burndowns. Burnouts are controlled by the traction control that this bike doesn't have. What super moto does is it lets you turn of ABS from rear wheel that will then let you lock it when braking. And no, its not close to 400lbs wet, it is 338 lb wet. "The rear breaks... they don't bite very hard" - That's because you have rear ABS! And because 90% of your stopping power is done by your front wheel! Come on! Come prepared or say that you don't know. This guy reminds of a crappy salesman at your local dealership. The rest of the review is good, though :)

About the rear brake, in addition to what you said, this bike (or at least its previous version) gets really light at the rear so the wheel is going to have much less grip too. ABS will keep on intervening and make it feel that there is much less bite than there actually is.

With how I control the throttle, because of how little it requires to run on lower gears, to the weight of the motorcycle on how I maneuvering in traffic, to its somewhat soft clutch and gear shifting feeling.

I have a 2018 390 Duke. No problems so far. The styling is sharp. The headlight is bright. The bike accelerates like a Super Moto, corners like naked bike that costs thousands more and brakes closer to a cruiser than a dirt or sport bike. The screen and Bluetooth are nice. The one things that drives me crazy is the amount of throttle you have to give to get rolling in 1st. Cut the throttle a hair too much and stall! Then there’s all the stories about the Duke blowing the head gasket or overheating. The 390 is a bike you can enjoy months after you start riding. Who wants to ride a CB 300F,or a GS310R after a month?

To say that it was made in Indian would be stupid. I own a Bajaj Pulsar myself but tbh, all Bajaj does is making some minor parts of inferior quality so that the product can be priced aggressively and more accessible to the public. Simply put, KTM does the manufacturing and Bajaj does the marketing.

These came on my radar 'cause I came across a '15 for $2,700 on Craigslist about a month ago and, as someone a long way from a beginner, I was interested in a small ABS bike to work on my cornering speeds without wrestling a 650lb / 140hp FJR1300. Since I missed that steal-of-deal I started looking hard at the rest of the up-to-500cc field, watching hours of KZread videos and reading dozens of reviews... and IMO the 390 Duke / RC 390 really are the best of the bunch, near the front of the pack in terms of horsepower and performance (importantly, faster than the CB500s which are packing an extra cylinder and a few more horsepower, but are quite a bit heavier). So I sold myself on getting one regardless of it being a "steal" and bought the cheapest '15 390 Duke I could find in my area _right now._ A merely ok deal. Immediately upgraded to the KTM "Ergo Comfort" seat and have put about 400 miles on it so far. Took it to the mountains on the 4th and had an absolute blast keeping up with the people on much faster bikes. The only complaints I've got are that the upgraded seat is still junk, the tach is beyond worthless, fuel range is Meh, and it's not a fun bike to ride for more than a few moments on highways where traffic is doing 80mph... The bike can go over 100, even with 265lbs of me on top, and feels fine at those speeds but from about 80 the acceleration is painfully slow and I'm uncomfortable riding at a speed where acceleration is not an option to get out of trouble. So I'm prepping my truck to haul the bike to Two Wheels of Suches instead of riding there -- hurts my pride a little as someone who has never trailered a bike anywhere unless it was broken or being delivered, but I can live with it. This week I found an '18 on Craigslist for $3,800 and said _Guess I'm upgrading!_ So now I have two while I wait on the title on the '15 to get here so I can sell it. The upgrades (from 2017 on?) are definitely worthwhile. The TFT gauges are much more readable. The seat is much improved (I think mine has the upgraded seats) but probably still not great for extended riding. Not having the exhaust exiting by my right foot is nice, both in terms of heat and volume. Suspension is still a weak point for a rider of my weight but that's pretty typical for any bike with sporty intentions. Can't wait to get it up to the mountains! So, my $0.02: Best in its class and it's punching up. If you think it's not enough, the 690 seems a pretty sweet upgrade.
