The back fout first was never explained to me, I'll start right away. This is why I always walk the lift out, thanks coach!

Its not that cut and dry, many world class lifters go front foot first.

Ironically I don’t need much power as a powerlifter. However my coach gives me some explosive work every week. It could be in me head but it makes me feel better and that means something.

For me, I’ve found too exaggerated of a “back foot, front foot” split results in forward hip displacement after the back foot lands, and I miss behind.

whats the meta here? stronger leg front or back? if you have a "bad" knee is it better to have it be the front or back leg?

Fun opening song. The jerk is the most powerful… is the Snatch the most something? I’ve heard it’s the most athletic movement, but is there something else the snatch objectively uses the most of?

  • @theaccordian9377

The snatch isn’t as powerful as the jerk, but being able to snatch has many athletic benefits such as improved hip mobility, shoulder mobility, and thoracic spine mobility.

Is there anything wrong doing a power jerk opposed to the split? The split just feels sketchy to me when I do it.

Make sure like Zack says, that your front knee doesn’t go past the heel, and that the front foot goes far forward enough. You could also try displacing your feet laterally as well, widening your base.

Nothing wrong with the power jerk, but I think the seductive appeal of its simplicity leads too many athletes to abandon split jerking when just sticking it out and focusing on improving one's split would be the better option in the vast majority of cases. The main drawbacks of the power jerk are its increased demand in bar elevation and the decreased leniency in stabilization/recovery. If you're experiencing some sort of previous injury or restriction that's causing pain/significant discomfort in the split or if you just truly can't split to save your life for some other reason, _then_ switching to the power jerk may be the right call.

If u power more than ur split after 3 years of training the split I think u could probably switch. But u really should learn how to split jerk and focus a lot of time and effort into learning it correctly. Otherwise you’ll just be wasting ur time
