    Hey Pope, Love what you are doing. I wanted to thank you, I've been struggling a little with my position in the split jerk and whilst i'd tried the squat jerk before and found it ok. I never thought of doing the Power Jerk, i tired it this past session and what a revelation, i actually find i have more control, i can feel the weight better. Well it is possibly a little early to tell if i'm a convert but i like how it feels so far! so thank you once again, Good Luck from the UK for the up coming competition.

    How funny, exact same situation as me. Splits bother my right side too much. I have good mobility, so can get just as low in power jerk, so power jerk it is. Feel more stable too.

    And I've always wondered if female back has bigger stress while lifting, since the lower part of female spine is slightly different from the male one (it is more curved because it has to support pregnancy).

    So ive been a powerlifter for several years, and recently been experimenting with weightlifting. Power jerks feel really natural to me while split and squat feel really foreign and awkward. Should I just continue to power or try and force myself to learn the split/squat?

    Is there a maximum weight that the heavier barbell can hold before bending? I've always wondered it.

  • @benmartinez8995

    @benmartinez8995

    6 жыл бұрын

    pile333 Olympic weightlifting barbells like the one pope uses which is a women’s 15kg bar are fine probably up to like 600 lbs and men’s 20kg weightlifting bars are good up to probably 1000 lbs but just always make sure to check ur bar before going super heavy! These bars are expensive and rated to handle this kind of weight most regular bars are not good for that

  • @pile333

    @pile333

    6 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the reply. It would be interesting to see a barbell bending for the excessive weight (Ii must search if there's a "How it is made" sort of video stuff somewhere) and I'm pretty sure that companies that make them have them tested with these kinds of weight stress. I'd have guessed that 20 kg barbells could bear more than 1000 pounds (but probably it depends on the quality of the material). Oh, I've already passed the "going super heavy" time of my life (^__^) but these videos are quite interesting to learn how to make correct movements in training (and i also like biking and too big legs are a sort of an obstacle and my legs are naturally quite big already).

  • @thispersonsdad7247

    Alot of them actually bend and flex to allow for more weight without permanent bending it. Most deadlift bars are quite flexible

  • @pile333

    @pile333

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yes, I've noticed that. It's particularly evident when they go super heavy. It must be a quite resilient metal; that's why it would be interesting to see how they process that.

    Best of luck with the power jerk :) Also how come so few who do olympic lifts actually do any grunting or scream because of the heavy weights? You loose core stability then?

  • @ah7027

    @ah7027

    6 жыл бұрын

    Screaming requires you to exhale air. so for me personally that causes me to lose a bit of tension. when I stand up from my squat ill breathe out and sometimes make a slight noise but never when its over head. Id lose the weight. I'm actually the opposite and cant figure out why people grunt/ scream during their lifts. guess its just a preference thing

    the coach im with has my program set so its around an hour and a half including warm up. so around an hour to actually complete my actual lifts. im set to do roughly 12-15 reps of each lift depending on how heavy the day will be and then squats at the end.

  • @ah7027

    @ah7027

    6 жыл бұрын

    I do that 3 days a week. off days at the moment are lighter variation of the snatch and jerk (I don't focus much on the clean because its easily 10kg above my jerk) Usually no touch snatches and drop jerks with 45-100 lbs then some rowing, bodyweight stuff and core work. still keep those to an hour or so as well. I enjoy lifting so sometimes its hard to make myself take the day off or keep from going to long or hard on a given day. so setting a lifting plan and following it really helps lol.
