My Springer turned 20 in January and I absolutely love it! I bought it new its only got 34,000 miles on it I've had it in 17 states. I had it on pikes peak and Mt Washington. My dad past away a year after I got then my grandfather died a year later but they both sat on it and those are my two favorite memories. And now as of today my 16 year old son got his driver's license today and on the way home he asked if he could get his motorcycle permit.... 🤦‍♂️ I told him nope not yet but I told him it's his when I'm done with it. Never seen a smile so big. Life will throw you a curve every now and then but man do they feel good on a Springer. ✌

Good on you! I just gave my son my 2001 Road King after I got a 2006 Springer classic. We both got the cam tensioners, cams and oil pumps upgraded to SNS. My son grew up on the back of the bike. He said he's going to do a few tasteful upgrades but keep it pretty much the same. He's a good kid , actually adult because he is 29

Thanks for the good words about the springer. I have a ‘95 fists which I bought nearly unused in 2000. I’ve ridden almost daily since then. People love it everywhere I go. When I bought my 2019 Ultra I considered selling it. There just wasn’t the market for it. Now I’m glad I didn’t. That thing still makes me smile every time I hop on. Love the front end (and I maintain it) love the Evo and the long legged five speed. I’ve done a few minor things over the years like bars, seat, pipes, SE high compression heads and a Mukuni 42, but it still only has 80 cubic inches which feels less powerful by today’s standards. While I used to take it on long camping rides all around the West, these days the bagger does that so I mostly just scoot around town with it. Anyway, you made me feel good about it again. Thanks.

I went to Americade West for two years decades ago to test lots of bikes in a beautiful setting. That was my favorite bike I ever rode, period. All telescopic forks have “stiction” when hitting a bump. This is a word seldom mentioned in modern technical articles. A telescopic fork has a delay and you always feel the initial hit of a bump before they start to work. The Springer front end has no “stiction” and really taught me the meaning of this word. This is such a practical design for real world riding on back roads. Harley knocked it out of the park creating such a winner here in function as well as beauty.

My first Harley was a 2001 Springer from the original owner 7k miles. Had it for a year (19k miles) then sold it for more money but that was a mistake. I missed the Springer. Fortunately I found 2006 Springer at my local HD dealer. Again one owner and less than 9k miles. Made an offer they did not take it. Went back a few weeks later and made the same offer. They accepted and I am a peace now. I do have a new Road King and a Fat Bob but the Springer is my favorite. I commute to work on the Springer. Great video and content on the Springer.

nice review brother!! and your statements are right on!! i own a nicely customized CVO FXSTSSE2, and aside from maintaining the front end every 10-12k miles, the front end hasnt asked me for anything else, and the maintenance cost is a little tube of lithium grease ($3) and an hr.. but as you mentioned, i didnt buy the bike for max performance, its a statement of appreciation /admiration towards motorcycling and how it started waaaaay back when.. but for what its worth.. you can NEVER mistake a springer front end for anything else except a harley!! mine always gets a crowd around it wherever i go.... FYI, i have that same scrap on right handers!! and scrape the stand of left handers but mine is dropped via shotgun shocks, you mustve banked it nicely for that V&H to scrape. at owm ride height, lol.. be safe

I had a 97 bad boy. Same as the bike shown. The exceptions was no chrome forks ,its own rear wheel and badging on tank was exclusively for the bad boy. Chrome was not overdone and all bad boys had scalloped paint jobs. It was the best bike. A total of 10,000 bad boys . A little over 3000 a year . The coolest bike ever.

I have to agree, I had two acquaintances in my neighborhood who had bad boys.. one of the owners let me take his bike out for a ride and I got a lot of thumbs up along with the pipes setting off car alarms. LOL at the time I just bought my 2001 Road King standard. Now my son has it and I have a 2006 Springer Classic. Sure, turning it at low speeds is a lot heavier but when it's on the highway it tracks like a freight train. Never had the warm and fuzzies with the handling of the road king which has been evidenced by the death wobble complaints. I'll never get rid of that bike.

A springer front end doesn't dive when you hit the brake. So the trail on the wheel doesn't change when you hit the front brake in a corner; always good for a surprise with tube forks. My '89 is too cool!

Talking about the 5 speed, I have an '03 Ultra Classic and I ended up putting the Screaming Eagle 6 speed trans in it. That was a game changer for a touring bike. All of a sudden, cruising at 75-80 mph was soooo comfortable, whereas with the 5 speed, 70 mph was the upper limit for relaxing comfort. Comfort for me must include when I feel the engine is in its comfort zone too. Put a 6 speed on a 5 speed bike and you've really made a change. BTW, the SE 6 speed has the exact ratios of the 5 speed and then the added sixth gear. So every gear feels the same and then you've got that extra gear your left foot was looking for. Now, talking about the springer front end, what about the lack of brake dive and stiction? The springer front end using modern metallurgy and teflon busings takes it into the modern era. I think it's a great front end. Besides the awesome looks, it performs well too. Yes, it has more limited travel, but it performs so well. I think it's perfect for the Softail.

Love my Springer and it's forks (with it's 4.5 degree rake). If it's maintained properly, the forks provide excellent feedback. Upgrade the dampener with either a Fournales or Works Performance brand and its better than a standard fork. After all, it pretty much has the same components as standard forks, but all the parts are on the outside. Only issue I find is the lack of variety for risers - they are limited and very expensive.

Springer's required up keep. Just simple remove front tire and one at a time and check your rocker tension with torque wrench ect. But simply read your bike owners manual. If you can't do the maintenance take it to a dealer. They need up keep, love the feel and look.

I'm confused about sixth gear. I took my '04 Roadster (five gears, obviously) on a 300x2 mile trip to my hometown and had no issues running 70-80 mph on the interstate, no windshield. The bike was fine for the 300x2 round trip. The road bumps, well, now that's a different story. But the engine speed way fine - it didn't feel like the engine was whining. What was lacking was the comfort.

Dude the front ends on a springer are very plush and supple they are not abrupt like the telescopic bikes that Harley makes. I had a fat Bob that did not handle as well as my Softail Springer. It feels light handles bumps with plush smoothness and the rake makes it handled beautifully in the parking lot also… And they don’t weigh much.

There are actually 6 springs. The front-end bushings need to be shimmed or replaced every 10-15K miles. The front is heavy and tends to wear out the head bearing giving it a flat-spot. You can find these $8-11K any day. Be prepared to spend $3K to get it right. My favorite, don’t own one yet; but I do have a 2018 Softail Heritage Classic 114 which I enjoy very much. Now you actually know why it’s so expensive your video title nonetheless.

The maintenance interval is not 10-15k, no clue where you got that from. I got mine new, did adjustments at 500, 2500 and 5000 to check. After that I lube the steering head at each oil change (just adding grease) and i tuned it at 20k miles. Im at 37k and this weekend I'll tune it again just to make myself feel good about my life. Never shimmed or replaced anything. You're right about 6 springs, but I didn't know that was a debate. Those springs also have to be adjusted when first tuning the front end to your liking, but after you don't touch them. It's no more difficult to tune than anything else and I've never spent 3k to get it right. HD doesn't touch this bike.

@@mraycgz I've noticed a lot of people that aren't cops are telling them to do their jobs. I see a lot of people without children giving parental advice. I also see a lot of gasoline truck owners bashing diesel truck owners. It's the way things are. I have one and I do the maintenance and I ride it more than some ride their baggers.

RIPbiker13 and therefore as far as springer front ends go I’d trust what you have to say over someone that doesn’t own one. They’re really not my thing regardless but you can’t say something isn’t there, because it’s 2020 and I still see people wanting them. Unless it’s just the look of them that people like. I get that, because they look really good.

2023 if you find them they are a dime a dozen 8 to 10k.. I just bought a custom one for 9500k. 19k miles.. the days of holding value are long gone. Dad bought a new 89 springer for 13k in 89. Put 94k miles on it and sold it for 13k 5 years later. Those were the best days..

Motorcycles should not be priced at $17,000, give me a break. We need practical, durable, energy efficient, and roadworthy bikes that can safely handle lousy road surfaces (at reduced speeds) if necessary.

I've read several times, that the springer "squirms" less on iron grate surfaces, like some bridges. I don't know myself, since I never drove one. Not a good reason, in its own right, to go springer. But if you're going that way anyway, look at the pros, not the cons.

What is the bike Mickey Rourke rode in Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man?? It looks vaguely similar to this one. If you could reply, I'd appreciate it. Anyone else with knowledge, I'd be grateful. Thank you much. Keep gettin' it 👊.

Sean i know the mic that is recording your audio is also picking up the exhaust so it is coming up as lower in the video than in real life but, with a full helmet on and Bluetooth speakers in helmet with music at full blast the mic is picking up the volume that your ears would so to me it sounds perfect. Wasn't super loud on startup, and at normal riding speeds you can hear the exhaust without hurting your ears. PERFECT!
