Not really, most people think this is great but don't understand 50% of the time its put in waters and handled WRONG, or in waters that can't hold trout year round. It's a waste of money and heavily inefficient. First, they need to spread an awareness, Trout are NOT Bass, they can't just be tossed in Water and be expected to survive. Infact most Trout when pulled out of the water for even a couple of seconds often died, I used to think Stocked Trout were stronger til I finally got back to trout fishing and found that all the stockies I caught (in various states), were actually just as weak. I didn't mean to pull them out, even when I put them on my stringer I usually put them in a trout designed net and still somewhat in the water but nobody's perfect and I'm far from that, so mistakes were made. Most of them died approximately a minute later, some lasted 5 minutes. I wasn't the only one too, I started going around surveying and found that most people noticed their trout dying before even getting on the stringer due to improper handling. About 60% of the few thousand people I surveyed knew to handle with wet hands but still pulled them out of the water. Do you wanna know why? Trout can't handle that stress of being pulled out of the water, the gravity "feels" heavier to them and puts pressure on their organs that they're unable to recover from. If the Government started putting that in the regulations for trout, giving that information out. I would much prefer that. I don't expect people to be able to do it, its not easy, even with a net and a pair of forescepts but to slowly bring awareness to it is good enough for me. California of all states (the most horrifying state) actually provides this information. Now if people are just keeping to eat, idgaf.

You need to seriously re evaluate your own handling of fish if they are dying from a few seconds out of the water. Youre probably squeezing the shit out of them because trout will be just fine from eben 30 seconds out of the water. Although you should always get them back in as soon as possible. This means dont take a picture because nobody fucking cares anyway. Unless of course its worth taking a pic cause its a chunker. But even then, unhook it, let is sit back in a net in the water WITHOUT a stringer... Then take your pic quickly. Also, if youre putting fish on a stringer..... Its to eat them... So please explain why it even matters that they die... And again its probably because you are stringing them incorrectly. Trout are much more hardy than you think and from what you are claiming I seriously doubt you are an avid angler much less a responsible and safe one.

And to add to that trout can live year round in virtually all water, thats why they are EVERYWHERE and also why they are used as the main stock fish.... Exactly because they are so hardy.

I find it a lot more fun to catch stockers with lures. Trout aren’t as picky as people make them out to be, even wild ones. If you have access to a boat or kayak it’s fun to throw a 1/4oz kastmaster for them. I like to go within 1-2 weeks of stocking where they’ve had a bit of time to settle in and start eating but haven’t all been caught and made cautious (or been eaten by a person or a bass or pike). They put up a good fight on light tackle. Making long casts and slow-rolling a spoon just under the surface, if conditions are ideal you’ll catch one almost every cast.

In Michigan we own a lakefront property, and there is this really nice man I met the first year I was there. I am about 13 or 14. I had formed a strong bond with him, and every single time he went fishing on his boat he made sure to pick me up. They also own a ton of land with farms. In there is this small pond that the government used to use to raise pike and walleye, and then released them into the pond. They haven’t used it in years. They wife said to me that she will get the area cleaned up, put in a dock, and let me fish there. There is a small pipe that connects to the lake. It is very small so only micro fish could get through. They would then grow up and stay there. It has not been touched for years. So the bass and pike are pretty large.

I can only speak to my own area, and what I've seen here. From my understanding, the only fish species our conservation department stocks or maintains is trout. And that's simply because this area only has specific places they can survive. I'm sure if they stay in those specific places they'd do fine. And we really don't have many dams on our biggest rivers, and only one that ik blocks a particular river or stream. Even then many of the fish species we have here would make it if isolated by a dam just by virtue of not being fussy breeders.

Here is a hint for when stocked trout or any other farm raised fish isn’t biting. Gather up some very small pea gravel a couple hand fulls will do. Toss a handful into the water the trout will instinctively head for the sound as it is exactly what they heard when they were being fed at the hatchery, in your next handful include your baited hook with enough loose line and toss it in! FISH ON!!!

Been catching the stock trout for years. They are really good if you throw them in some foil with some seasoning and butter into a hot bed of coals the only thing you got to be careful is the fact that they die from any kind of trauma very easily and when you handle the fish you have to be careful because the bones are so small that they easily break. Still edible but you just have to pick bones out of the meat while you eat it. Instead of using a fork to just pull it off of the bones

I've caught little wild trout in Massachusetts in small wooded streams. Places with two inches of trickling water surrounded by trees and ferns. It was a long walk to get to those places. There was no way they were stocked. I've caught huge ones in backwoods Maine that weren't stocked. That was a long drive on logging roads, canoeing across a lake and hiking up a stream. There was no signs of humans for the last two hours of the trip. Huge monsters. On that trip there were deer, moose, salamanders, porcupines, and an eagle. So if the state doesn't stock them they aren't going to be there and people would eat bluegill.

I wish people in my country would refurbish waters instead of putting so much rainbows. But I must say they are fun to fish. Imagine kids with spinners and they get trout instead of small pike

Powerbait is for you to put on your other line while you are actually fishing with your main line. Dont be lame. Fish with lures, much more fun and satisfying.

They also take over, I've seen 1st hand used to b able to catch small and largemouth bass in the small creek that runs through the small town I grew up in. Now there is absolutely zero bass in this creek.

Power bait doesn't work 9 out of 10 times, for people who don't fish stocked ponds.

They don’t taste great tho…. The meat is more white and mushy then wild caught trout which should be an orange to red color like salmon.

I've never had luck catching stock trout with powerbait, but they LOVE spinners. IDK, maybe the stock trout where I'm from just have fish autism or something.

When i was little i had some of that trout and the meat was so soft and fine and the taste was very lightly fishy yet sweet it was so tasty! Just put a little salt and pepper and paprika and slap it on foil with butter on the grill... Finish with a little lemon and its so so so tasty

The main reason I don't care for fresh water fishing. Suck a limited species of fish, and most all just came out of a controlled environment. It's like setting chickens loose on the farm to shoot and calling it bird hunting
