    I wouldn't have a six digit number of pictures on my harddrive had I not started out with an X100T. I didn't plan for this hobby to take up so much of my time for four and a half year (till covid made me take a long break). After the X100T came a lot of other Fuji cameras. But the X100 line was my gateway into photography. I've got the X100VI now. It is a really good camera :-)

    I have a X100V that I bought last year. I have a lot of other cameras and a complete Fuji system. However... I love the simplicity of a fixed focal length small camera that has a lot of capability. I don't have to choose what lens to use and I don't have to have a big kit with me. I carry my X100V and a Contax TVS in a small Domke bag with some spare batteries, a couple of SD cards, and a spare roll of film. It's a blast to use. It produces excellent images. I usually set mine at auto-ISO, auto-shutter speed, and f/8. If I want to change depth of field, easy-peasy. I also have back-button focusing engaged.

    I have an X100v as well as a full frame DSLR with a number of lenses. I absolutely love the V and currently see no reason to upgrade to the VI, just for the 40mp. If you don’t own the V, then the VI is well worth getting. It’s a joy to use. These days my money is better spent expanding the lens choice for my DSLR especially as people are moving to mirrorless.

    I hemmed and hawed about buying this camera and could have pre-ordered sooner. I broke down and purchased one, and this is my first real test as an adult with delayed gratification waiting for it to arrive. In the meantime, I will practice on my XPro2 and play with my lenses. I keep torturing myself watching these review videos, but they make me feel like I joined a community. Enjoyed your perspective.

    I currently have the X-E3 with the 23mm f2 lens and it does the job, I also like the fact that I also have the 35mm and 50mm f2s in my bag to mix things up a bit. That said I have always wanted an X100 range just due to the size and the pureness of it. I really could see me having it alongside my E3 + 35mm f2 on a shoot and know that I have both of my favorite focal lengths covered and am discreet enough not to draw attention to myself.

    I think the big selling point on the x100 series is that’s it’s a great camera if you want to do minimal editing and not invest in glass. Personally I like an interchangeable lens system. Previously had the X-T5 and sold it for the A7cii since I have quite a few Sony glass.

    This video is a very fair review. I like how careful you used your words. Once I became a full-time filmmaker/photographer- my Fujifilm x100v turned into more than a toy that I don’t mind handing to my four-year-old on vacation. Also, while on vacation, you can hand the Fuji off to anyone, and it’s not intimidating for them, and the photos turn out decent. With that, I turned into a snob over the years 😂

I can understand why people might be reluctant to update from the x100V to this model but for a person who has shot on the Xpro3 for about 3 years this model is everything that i wanted out of it and more. The portability, the easiness and beauty of it. Im so happy i made the switch, Been shooting with it for maybe a week now and having loads of fun with it. Luckily my xpro3 can still be sold for around 1400 bucks so that covers most of this purchase but yeah, love it!

Love my V but sold it before the 20th figuring Fuji would have plenty of VI to go around. That's why they moved production to China, right? Hindsight says that was a stupid move. My mistake. Really glad you like the VI overall. Praying mine will show up before the end of the year.

    Thank You for the video!Absolutely agree with everything You have said about the camera. I guess I am lucky to have one already:) Since you are quite knowledgeable about everything regarding the entire X100 series, I would like to ask about the adapter ring. In principle, everyone knows that in order to use any filter on the X100VI, you first need a ring adapter. What I noticed is that after you put on this adapter and a filter on top, the length of the lens increases significantly, and in some cases becomes almost twice as long). I have one 52mm filter and in order to use it with the X100VI, I also put on a step up ring. Although, it would seem, all these rings are very thin, when added together they actually significantly enlarge the lens and this is a little frustrating. So my question is this... which of the existing adapters for the X100VI that you know of is the thinnest? Or are they all modeled after the original Fuji adapter? Of course, I understand that the adapter should have a little margin for lens movement when focusing, but still. I even had the idea that some of the filter manufacturers could make filters specifically for the X100VI, which would have a little of the same reserve for lens movement but would at the same time replace the need for an adapter :)

  • @lucyrat1

    @lucyrat1

    Nisi makes a kit called “UV filter, Lens Hood and Cap Kit” The filter which is built into the adapter adds 7mm to the approximate original 22mm depth. Also works with the original Fuji cap. With the Nisi hood: 41mm total

I still shoot 120 but 35mm is really not time or cost effective for "fun" shooting and snapshots. I just have a huge 35mm backlog because it's unimportant work to me, just fun around-town stuff that falls out of priority vs. my work and project photos. Hopefully I get my order soon!

    Sony A7C II! :) I have the original A7C and the A7C II, which IMO is a noticeable upgrade over the original and worth the higher price. The body is a little smaller than the X100 series, but even a small fullframe prime will be a little bit bigger. The X100 series cameras do feel nicer in the hand and I think they’re more beautiful, but the A7C series are a really good option between a "play" camera like the Fuji and a typcial "pro" camera.

    I've heard this a few times but I've been pleasantly surprised at the degree of detail in the images - except when shooting close-up and wide open. But even then, I only notice when I'm pixel peeping. I think the higher resolution sensor is revealing the optical character of the lens in a less flattering light than the X-Trans IV (which may just be another way of saying that the sensor outresolves the lens).

    Hmm, 35mm f/3 FF equivalent so no selfies or landscape or wildlife, limited background separation for talking head, etc etc . With a lower dynamic range than an iPhone 15Pro (tested by CINED), poor-ish low light performance, no flip screen, poor battery life, not great for videography, low resolution hybrid evf. It’s not for me but it is a very pretty camera :) As a backup/travel/day camera, I would still rather have an A7C II with a pancake lens. It's practically as pocketable, full frame, compatible with existing lenses (if you're on the Sony ecosystem anyway) and doesn't suffer from the limitations above. Just saying.

    its a great camera - no doubt - but i am really finding it hard to justify it over the x100v. they should have updated the lens and the AF motor sound while shooting video still exists. the writing speeds to the UHS-1 card also is kind of disappointing. the AF performance in general also feels sluggish and the hit ratio is not that great. on the LCD it looks pretty sticky but after reviewing, the hit rate is not great. hopefully a firmware update can fix the AF issues

    The greatest problem you had was at the beginning of your video explaining the difference between the two different cameras. I would expect that the Fuji will be a great little camera for most folks, but it is what it is, and taking people’s opinions about things that have been improved has to be taken into consideration. The other thing is the price difference between the Fuji and the Leica , and man what a camera that is it’s probably got lots of wow factor for folks who have the money 💰 for a show off piece. For me your video explanation is top notch between the uses for these two cameras. The Leica on the other hand is for a professional photographer like yourself to be putting it to its proper intended purpose.

    I think that a lot of what has been said today about teh X100VI can also apply to the rest of the X100 lineup. What makes the X100VI special is the formula : fixed pancake 35mm equiv lens with f/2 aperture, APS-C sensor, nice looking, hybrid EVF/OVF and portable. Except the original X100 which has some ergonomic compromises when it comes to the exposure and EVF, starting with the X100S, every X100 camera is suitable for most of the things that yu described in this video. I think that the question that would have been a little more interesting is why is the X100VI worth it over the other X100 cameras? Typically, how is it improving things over the X100V? Do we really see the autofocus benefits that the newer processor was promising us? Is the IBIS really that useful for such a camera? Is the lens able to make full use of that 40MP sensor or is it a little too soft? And compared to other X100 cameras, is it a good value? My own personal take on this : the X100VI is an excellent camera but it's also the highest hype on the camera market you can find today. Getting one is either super expensive paying scalped prices on e-bay, or waiting months in a wait list. If what makes the X100VI so good is mostly down to the formula, why couldn't we get almost all the way there with mroe affordable / available cameras? Typically, does the X100F or even X100T represent a good alternative to someone that wanted an X100VI or V and couldn't get their hands on one? I personally own an X100S, and for what I use it for (friends and family, a little bit of travel / EDC and sometimes as a fun little camera when I'm on a shoot using my Nikon Z6), I don't think I need more than what it's providing me : most of the enjoyment I get from it is down to the form factor and it doesn't matter if the lens is a little sharper, or if the camera has 12, 16, 24, 26 or 40MP
