@@notme943 No, he was right. What you need to think about is European historical colonialism, plundering wealth and resources from one country to make goods which are sold for a massive profit. An example is France buying Uranium for the lowest price from Niger, France then generates lots of electricity, more than it needs, then it sells the excess to Europe for enormous amounts. Niger is subsidising France. Indonesia was tied in to Western contracts to export Nickel, a very important resource for electronics, amongst other things but it was forced to sell this at a price it did not set. Now Indonesia is refining it's Nickel in its own country and making a bigger profit. It demanded countries build refineries there and China has built dozens for them. Europe and the West complained, they wanted to keep Indonesia poor and take their resources for bottom dollar. The take another example of Western countries skewing markets, De Beers and diamonds. This was a market rigged by De Beers for their and Western benefit and the countries producing the diamonds never saw anything like the value. You need to understand, Western Europe is resource poor so they've been plundering foreign countries for 500 years. Countries are now fighting back and demanding a fair price for their resources but that means European products are no longer competatively priced. China is competative because it has resources, minerals, ores and it can make things cheaply because they don't have to go to another country to buy them. Germany is complaining because they can no longer plunder Africa and other poor countries so have to pay a fair price. Then there's the fact they're no longer buying cheap Russian energy, instead they're buying expensive American LPG. All this adds to their costs and makes their products uncompetative. So your mentality is typical imperialist and colonialist, thinking you should still have the right to control everyone elses resources. That game is over. Western hegemony is over.

7:49 ‘China’s market is not fully open to European firms’. This is a load of BS. European cars such as VW, Mercedes etc are sold in China without tariffs. As well, Teslas are manufactured and sold competitively in China. European cars are more costly largely because of higher energy and labour costs. Neither of these issues have anything to do with China. Chinese EV companies such as BYD also have the huge advantage of vertical integration where they own the supply chains such as batteries. The cost savings from vertical integration is a result of a long term strategy that they followed for decades. European car makers lack that strategical thinking and the discipline to follow through.

Janet Yellen‘s claim that - China’s so-called overcapacity in solar energy, electric vehicles and lithium-ion batteries - is creating an unfair competition that will distorts global prices, and hurts American firms and workers, as well as firms and workers around the world, is at best paradoxical. And at worst, myopic. “Overcapacity” and “hurting American firms” is paradoxical. Needless to say, if China produces products that nobody wants, it will hurt nobody except China, much less American businesses. Inferior products are destined to the garbage. But the inconvenient truth is - at a given price, the Chinese green energy products such as, photovoltaic cells, windmills, lithium-ion batteries, and EVs are light-years ahead compared to that produced by their western competitors. The latter simply cannot compete. In fact, China’s so-called “overcapacity” is something to be cherished by humanity, other than perhaps the protectionist rant-seekers who can’t compete on a level playing field. Why do I say that? Just imagine a world where photovoltaic cells, windmills, lithium-ion batteries, and EVs are luxuries that only the Global North can afford, what will then happen to the Global South? The Paris Agreement is a collective initiative involving both North and South. It calls for all nations working together to combat climate change. The implementation of the Paris Agreement requires economic and social transformation of the global economy based on the best available science and technology. Inarguably, China has emerged as a clear leader in green revolution. Simultaneously, China is providing the world with high quality products at affordable prices by increasing supply to offset the pent-up demand for new energy. If indeed the Chinese products are heavily subsidised, which of course is not true, then the world should be grateful. This is because as they’re getting high quality products at affordable prices subsidised by the Chinese. However, the proposition that the Chinese green energy companies are heavily subsidised belies China’s cost-efficient and unrivalled manufacturing capability built on the foundation of critical mass, revolutionary innovations and processes. UBS Research analysts recently tore down BYD Seal, the new generation EV model from China’s leading carmaker, BYD, and share their insights into BYD’s technology, supply chains and cost structures. The DBS’s team concludes by saying that “compared with mass EVs from legacy OEMs, BYD Seal is the better and much cheaper car, thanks to high vertical integration that leverages BYD's cost lead in battery cells, vehicle integration, powertrain and electronics modules. Connectivity and advanced driver assistance systems are also state of the art.” Unable to compete, it is sour grapes to Washington. Unfortunately, when the strong have eaten sour grapes, the teeth of the weak are set on edge. Consequently, the world, especially the Global South, will suffer if China yield to Washington’s self-serving objective and scale back on production. If China were to do that, the prices of green energy products will surely go up exponentially. But fortunately, China is no sycophant nor vassal to Washington.

As an European it is so insane to hear the absolutely bizar viewpoint of EU leaders. Cost of living has never been higher and only continue to rise which means higher wages making the EU economy less competitive which they themselves caused by opening up key tasks like education, healthcare and many government functions to for profit corporations. Of if your "investment/subsidy" plan is to throw billions at for profit entities then of course this is going to be the result. That is why China is so much cheaper because a lot of stuff needs to be done without profit being the main focus. But instead of learning from China they just dig in their heels and just drain their economy and its people of any wealth they have until they have no other choice left but to change to a non-profit model anyways. It's a crazy combination of incompetence and an unwillingness to learn.

Western don't have resources only have advanced technologies now overtake by China , all world countries can look East to learn and without meddling and interfere

Can the US and EU prevent developing nations like China, India, Africa and etc., from progressing in the 21st century where Russia and China are equally strong as the US? IMO, cheap products will continue to come out from China, India and Africa nations for another 100 years. The US, EU and other developed nations have to adjust or increase their productivity to compete with emerging nations. The alternative is using force or war just like what the west had done past 500 years.

Interesting times. I think the summary of this clip is from 14:03 to the end. Fact is, the West has been assembling a range of weapons to ensure China doesn't get to the number spot in Economy, High Tech, Military etc. The maxim now is to do anything and everything to slow China's momentum. This will be shrouded in all sorts of 'nicespeak' and terminologies. As the gentleman said, China too has plenty of weapons at its disposal to strike back. Presently, it looks like we're watching a movie of wits and wills. No matter who comes out victorious they'll be substantial damages.

So we have a cultural situation where the majority of the population in one part of the world are relatively dull workaholics who don't enjoy life enough from a western perspective, and in the other part of the world, a majority that are relatively lazy loafers who enjoy life too much from an eastern perspective. The loafers should go ahead and protect their markets with tariffs so the workaholics are forced to sell their goods produced under such overcapacity to the third world / global south, thereby improving the standard of living of the people there. The only people that would not benefit from this proposition would be the arms manufacturers who only benefit from wars, destruction and killings (not to mention genocide, ethnic cleansing, regime changes and colonization, even though the latter is a dying fad). Would that not be a win-win situation that would gradually make the world happier while reducing the influence of the military industrial complex and the elite political parties they have in their pockets?

The future of Chinese 🇨🇳 electric cars in Europe is uncertain due to *overcapacity,* a kind word for dumping.
