Fun fact about the oval: it was left unpaved for decades as the university let students make desired pathways in the grass. Eventually OSU just paved roads over those student made pathways and that’s why it’s so intricate (including all the way up to 18th Ave)

  • @MegaBrokenstar

This is also why a lot of students are furious with recent administrations’ attempts to enforce photogenicity of the grass by putting up random chains and ropes to block ways people like to cut through. OSU’s walkways were literally decided by how people wore paths in the grass until these clowns started resisting it.

same thing is happening at PSU (albeit not in the oval shape), where every time I go back there seems to be a new paved path on a place you used to see ultimate frisbee or touch football games.

I ran that bridge in early 2010's and 2009 for the River to River Ragnar relay. The first year the team was fast and got in the top 10 for the 12 man teams at about 8--10 We were mostly from Pierre (Pier) South Dakota. Then the next few years we were slower due to the fast guys being injured as one of them tried to stupidly keep up very hard training. That first year we did the race, person on an old steel 10 speed road racing Campagnolo or Japanese Sun bike in Tour De France Yellow, they nearly took me out on the bridge just lightly brushing my skin with the bikes metal pedal that the guy had old style clips for, he looked like he used the bike for super touring having front and back racks on the bike.

Love this commercial as a Michigan fan and a geography nerd. Transitions are super smooth. I’m excited to see how they revamp it with the expansion teams. Will be interesting to see which direction they approach it. Maybe start in Seattle and work down to LA, then make that same transition over the mountains into Nebraska? Also, they need to add some things like the Children’s Hospital in Iowa City, and maybe another reference or two for MSU (as much as I hate them, they’re still a big part of this conference). Maybe something with the Breslin Center? They seemed to have been gipped. Could also add in some pieces of other nearby cities like they did for Detroit, Philly, DC, and NYC. Chicago and Minneapolis make more sense because NW/UM are there already, but lots of other great cities could use a reference here. Very surprised, for instance, that Lucas Oil isn’t on here at all, nothing for Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Des Moines, Omaha. Expand this sucker to a minute flat and give proper reference to actual B1G country, not just the east coast cities the B1G brass wants to be a part of.

I’m a bit surprised they didn’t include Indy or at least Lucas Oil Stadium, as its the conference’s favorite neutral site which frequently hosts championship events and its not much further from both Indiana and Purdue than most of the other depicted cities are from their respective campuses. Plus 50% would be a very conservative estimate of the percentage of the college educated population who got their degree from a Big Ten school. Not just Indiana and Purdue either; the others, particularly Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State are well represented too.

That is the stone arch bridge, a historical landmark that is now a pedestrian bridge crossing the Mississippi river near downtown Minneapolis. 2. That tall buildings are actually in 2 separate cities. The one of the left is the Wells Fargo Building (tallest building in St Paul) and the one of the right is the IDS Center (tallest building in Minneapolis) 3. The small rectangular building is actually the 3M headquarters, one of Minnesota's largest homegrown companies! Nice video!

On the MSU section, it appears there's a bridge which may symbolize the bridge the Spartans football team walks over to Spartan Stadium before each game when the team does "the walk" across campus. I'm surprised the video didn't feature The Rock, which has been a focal point for many moments in MSU's history, where students come together during times of joy, trouble, sorrow, triumph, and tribute. Anyway, I agree, this commercial for the B1G is one of my favorites and really showcases the conference in a way no other conference can. It's absolutely wonderful.

This is definitely my favorite commercial. I assume they add the Hollywood sign for LA along with their stadiums. The world knows Nike for Eugene though that may be a marketing issue. Of course the Space Needle for Seattle. I'd love to see the White Out and fireworks added for PSU as an alum. PSU is central PA so Pittsburgh references can also be added.

It is so unique and catchy. And I've been wondering how it will change next year also, I hope they keep the spirit and theme of this one. Thanks for making one of those videos that simply had to be made!

*New commercial adds 5 seconds. We start out East with Rutgers and Maryland the rest of the commercial stays the same. Then after Nebraska, you fly up to Washington and Oregon, before flying down and sunset to see Usc and Ucla while the Rose Bowl stadium to end it, because at the end of the year, thats where we all want to be.*

As a Northwestern fan, Indiana fan, Wisconsin fan, and Oregon fan, every time I watch this ad it always gives me chills. I hope they add more stuff to this commercial next year when the pac 12 colleges join us, that would be really cool. However, I wonder if they’ll keep the rose bowl stadium as the start of the ad, as it is north of the campuses of USC and UCLA.

That statue depicted in the commercial actually isn’t referencing the first football game statue, it is a real and completely separate one. The statue shown is located outside of biomedical engineering building on Busch campus. It is a depiction of someone running and it is made up of pipes of varying size to give the illusion of motion when viewed. The fact that the referenced such a specific statue on campus to represent Rutgers School of Engineering is so awesome and just goes to show how immaculate this commercial is and that they did their research and didn’t BS any of the Universities. Go RU!!! And Go B1G!!!

So glad you made this video. I thought I was alone in being glued to the TV whenever it comes on. It truly is a celebration of the greatest conference, both on and off the field. One little nit. You mentioned the Go Blue "flag" but glossed over that this is the M Club banner that the football players famously jump to touch as they run onto the field.
