I just wish I knew that the radio was locked before I bought it. I don't have access to a computer, so I can't scan or do anything with the ham bands. it's amazing with all the videos that are out there, nobody mentioned that when you bought the radio you literally can't do anything with it until you hook it up to the computer.

Yes, I remember when I had my radio first, even with a pc I couldn't quite get things working right but was told there's an option to turn off the "business" mode to make it a ham radio, the thing is that as you only do this once, over a long time of repeated normal dmr programming you forget about that option in the menu.. I only remembered about that because your post lol tbh I don't even remember where in the menu or even what the tick box option is called lol. Tbh from all the dmr radios I have used I find the pc programmer easier to use, the md380 with the firmware toolz installed makes it easy to change frequency etc the 878 keypad programming is quite annoying in my opinion

I wish it had better weather proofing! I went on a hike and got rained on for about 30 minutes. The Anytone was attached to my backpack during that time. When we reached the camp, I dried the radio and turned it on. The was no sound and the screen displayed gibberish. Also noticeable was the humidity inside the screen. I took off the battery and let the radio dry for 2 days. Thats did the trick. However, I will not be taking that radio any longer as an emergency measure during my hikes.

Well I have one and I'm very impressed with it overall, the software is really ham radio friendly when enabled, I'm used to programming dmr and this was quite easy to do things once you found where they are in the software. Things I love is, how easy to use the radio, 4 power levels L M H T. Software imports of many things to speed up programming from other radio types and even the user database. The best thing about this radio over my md380 is that the zones are not limited to a 16 channel rotary switch. Can monitor both slots at the same time. A slight modification to the md380 charger base and this radio will fit and charge My down sides about the radio are I struggle to get GPS lock Programming the radio and channel is a pain from the keypad (but can be done, I find the md380 much easier) I had a problem with my charger base and battery, it smoked the battery protection board and smoked the board in the charger, this from search results seems to be a common issue. The default tx/rx tones needed to be changed as they are very abrupt when you have the volume up.

Do you also have reconnection issues with the Bluetooth accessories? Whenever either the Bluetooth ptt button or the headset gets out of range it won’t reconnect to the radio when going back to range. Unfortunately the disconnection frequently happens already when the radio is in the backpack and the Bluetooth ptt mounted on the handlebar. I wonder if there is a setting or trick that tells the radio to auto reconnect the Bluetooth devices when they come back to range.

I am the happy owner of one of these. There is one issue that have let me down twice. Empty battery without any knowledge. I've read the manual and googled. Is there any way or threshold to set an alarm for low battery warning? It has the very most of all other features :) Thanks for your good and informative videos!!

I just purchased this radio to store for emergency communications only, which is permitted without a license in emergencies. I do not have a ham operator lic though. Will I need to return this. I just want to set it up so it's ready and then store it in my bunker. I purchased it seeing this, "it's great for preppers" video. But uhhh It's locked... everything, rx and tx have an x through them. Is this not actually a good readio for a prepper??? My requirements were: I needed scan feature to find transmissions, 10 watts min, and as many frequency options as possible. I cant store it if its not going to work for me. Thank you.

Bought a radio to store in case of emergency. You better hope one never happens because those interpretations of the emergency rules says different. You could be looking at a big fine.

@@williamlowry9585 the rules literally state that “no provision of these rules prevents the use by an amateur station of any means of radio communication at its disposal to provide essential communication needs in connection with the immediate safety of human life and immediate protection of property when normal communication systems are not available. The only way the government could misinterpret that... is if it ended with "and this exception shall not be infringed" haha 😂 But seriously, in life threatening situations you're human first, rule follower second. But luckily the fcc in 2010 clarified that exception for those out there like yourself. You know, the ones that would rather let someone die then break a rule. Happy though that not everyone thinks like a robot.
