🕸 FilmSpeak talks about why The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a perfect Spider-Man Movie with HiTop FIlms and why it's also my favorite Spider-Man movie!
🔔 SUBSCRIBE: kzread.info?sub_con...
From the moment I saw TASM2 or The Amazing Spider Man 2 in theaters back in 2014 and Andrew Garfield's Spidey charged Paul Giamatti's Rhino hurling the sewer cap with his web eventually wiping the screen to black before the battle began, I knew I witnessed something special. I was an emotional mess, not just from the tragic death of Emma Stone's Gwen Stacey, but from experiencing the truest and most relatable Spider-Man story I'd ever seen in amazing spider-man 2. I saw so much of myself in Andrew Garfield Spider-Man, his relationship troubles, his time management, the feeling as though the entire world was closing in on him and no matter what he did he couldn't outrun it. The Peter/Spider-Man in the amazing spider-man 2 is the best spider-man to me because he gave me hope, we saw him triumph over evil, but also lose in the process. We saw my favorite spiderman grapple with grief and loss, trauma, and what it meant like to be a good friend, a good son, how to set an example even if you don't have it all figured out yourself. I know many knock this film for being plagued by studio interference and mandates, that it was overstuffed, convoluted, and flat out messy, but I disagree. Director Marc Webb had a vision and a method to the madness and everything connects in an emotionally satisfying way. So strap in folks, in this video essay Griffin (@griffschiller) and special guest @HiTopFilms give you our The Amazing Spider-Man 2 review and talk about why the amazing spider-man 2 is misunderstood, why the amazing spider-man 2 is my favorite spider-man movie, why the amazing spider-man 2 is perfect, why Andrew Garfield is the best spider-man, and why despite the mixed reception the amazing spider man 2 is perfect as we lead up to Andrew Garfield's inevitable return in Spider-Man No Way Home! Enjoy ❤️

I disagree with your take on Harry Osborne and Peter's relationship. I don't think Peter was trying to force himself into his life but rather be a good friend to him and connect with someone he hasn't seen in ages. Otherwise, great analysis, while it has its flaws I don't think TASM 1 and 2 deserve the hate they get and this love letter to these movies proves it.

I think both can be true. I think it's telling that the two haven't spoken in years and it took a tragedy to rekindle that "friendship." I think Peter was looking to fill a void, and while going to comfort Harry, subconsciously I would say, found a new way to fill it.

I absolutely love the TASM movies. They are my favourites of all of the Spider-Man movies. And TASM 2 specifically is #1 for me. I love Peter/Gwen so much. It is easily the best/most chemistry filled of all the romantic pairings in any of the Spider-Man movies for me. I just connect to all the relationships (especially Peter/Gwen and Peter and Aunt May) in these two movies and this one in particular way more than the other movies. Great job from Andrew, Emma and Sally. This movie breaks my heart, I still cry each time Gwen dies. I wish there was a different ending for Gwen. I'll hold on to hope for a happy ending where both are alive for Gwen/Peter somehow lol. And even though the movie broke my heart, it is without a doubt the best Spider-Man movie to me. Great video.

I don’t think Peter and Gwen’s dynamic is that great. Remember what Gwen does when Peter tells her he feels awful for going back on the promise he made to her dad? 16:35 You made me understand why the parents sub-plot even matters. His father died keeping his research out of the hands of Oscorp. And Peter learned only his blood is compatible with the research. This explains his reluctance to give his blood to Harry Osborne. He knew it would be dangerous or at best give his father's research back into Oscorp's hands. And he cannot reveal this without really giving away his identity. If he didn't understand the value of his DNA and its relationship to Oscorp he might have helped Harry.

It rekindled his hope in those around him and made him appreciate Gwen enough to want to go to London with her

I look at them really as one story and it bothers me so much that Garfield didn't get a 3rd outing. We easily had a TASM 3 with a 2nd trilogy that focuses on perhaps Mary Jane, Black Cat (still waiting for that), and a host of new villains. Acting like there cant be "too much in a movie" and that you are just smarter than everyone else so you understand it is an insanely narcissistic take. I understand what the movie was trying to do and everything you are saying from the movie but it is too much. villains characters are as important to a superhero movie as the title hero and both electro and harry were underdeveloped so they arent compelling in any way. if you spend more time with the characters it would be more compelling the way that the more successful spiderman/superhero movies are. and the dumbest part of the entire movie is the stuff with peters dad. peter was the only person that could become spiderman because of his dna, which ruins the main draw to spiderman which is he is a normal kid who is met with great power, its beautiful that anyone with a good heart couldve been spiderman if they were bit. but tasm 2 goes out of its way to ruin that and create an incredibly contrived origin where if peter parker didnt happen to go to oscorp and go into the lab with the spiders no one would ever be spiderman.

I personally hate the whole idea that Peter Parker was meant to be Spider-Man and that only his dna was compatible with the spider. The whole appeal of Spider-Man is that it could of been anyone that was bitten but it was Peter and because of the lessons taught to him by his uncle, he uses his power for the benefit of others. He was a nobody who used his powers not for self gain (well he did at the start) but to help people. It also completely ruins the whole “anyone can wear the mask” idea as well only Peter can be Spider-Man.

Both TAS films are underrated. I think it has flaws but there no where near as bad as people say. To me Andrew Garfield is by far the best Spiderman. He captures everything that Spider-Man is. I just love how quipy he is in the suit. He's always being sarcastic and funny with villains. I feel like this Spiderman has a connection to the public too. Like how he says hello to the citizens and the part where he walks that kid home is just such a bloody fantastic scene. That whole scene just screams "Spiderman". Also it's honestly amazing how expressive Andrew Garfield Spiderman is whilst he's wearing his mask. You don't get that at all with Tom and Tobey. You can literally tell exactly what expression Andrews face is pulling when you literally can't even see his face! That just shows how good an actor Andrew is. Speaking of actors both films by far have the best actors. Andrew and emma are phenomenal. There chemistry is incredible. You believe in there relationship so much. The actor playing Harry is a very underrated actor and so is aunt May actress. Because the actors are sooo good all the interactions and conversations between the main characters come across so believable and real. Way more believable and real than any other Spiderman movie. Andrew is the best Spiderman. Emma is the best Spiderman love interest and TAS aunt may is by far the best version of aunt may too. The score for these two films is spectacular. It might be the most heroic superhero theme ever. It draws out such huge emotions from the audience

I'm so happy that someone is making my thoughts into words about this movie. I mean this came out as I was just a kid and then, I did not understand why they focused on peters parents as they aren't so important in spiderman story. But now that I'm older, I'm amazed how well this movie captures being a teenager and trying to be an "adult".

I loved almost every scene that had Spidey/Peter in this series. This Peter feels more like an actual person who would be bullied and have issues not because the world is just unfair, but his own flaws playing a big part in his suffering. On the flip side, his flaws turn to highlight his virtues when he do heroic things. Peter is a hero, not because of how little flaws he has, but how much good he tries to do despite having those flaws.

I loved TASM 2 from day one too. It’s my personal least favorite Spider-Man movie but there are definitely strong points. I tend to agree that this has the best Spider-Man suit and that Gwen is the best love interest so far. The cinematography is on point too. I especially love the shot where the electricity reflects off of Spider-Man’s lenses.

I have a confession to make. Here it is: I didn't like him at first. I didn't like Andrew Garfield's version of Spider-Man. Starting from the very first promo picture of him. Back in 2012, I wasn't happy about literally everything: the plot, the music, the cast, the suit, the tone of the film, even the way he was bitten by the spider. I was looking for reasons to dislike The Amazing Spider-Man. Which I had been doing up till 2017. Apparently, somehow I hated him because he replaced Tobey. Tobey Maguire, the one who was lucky enough to be the first. And people tend to remember the first ones. Barely had I understood anything when I watched both films of Watts' dilogy. Things started changing after Spidey had joined the MCU, which I was happy about. Which eventually led to the thing we could only dream of. The third interpretation of my favourite fictional character made me compare those three versions. Andrew just got unlucky to be the second, I guess. The older we get, the better understanding we get. Unconsciously, there started to appear more and more things in Andrew's Spidey that I like now. The suit, the music, the spider logo on his back and chest. Frankly speaking, I'm still finding things to love these films for. I am sorry for how stupid and short-sighted I'd been. If I was to meet Andrew someday, I would tell him about that. In all honesty, I'm more than happy to see that Andrew is getting the credits that he fully deserves. Yeah, sometimes, it takes 10 years. Nevertheless, I can't express the amount of joy I had when I saw Andrew in No Way Home. Moreover, people's reactions worldwide confirm that they were waiting for him. They related to him. They loved him. So, I can finally say that I have found inner peace, loving, seeing and praising the celebration of the 20-year-long journey. The words that have been resonating with me since the age of 5. That with great power, there must also come great responsibility. The fucking three Spider-Men. Tobey. Andrew. Tom. Never before have I been so hyped up and excited. And I wish you to experience the same. After watching this video, how can we trust those professional cinema critique?

I think the Webb and Raimi films are comparable storywise, but where TASM films really shine is in its casting! Andrew, Emma and Sally are all gifted actors and made me care in ways Tobey, Kirsten, Tom and Zendeya just don't. Tom Holland is a great actor, (I thought he deserved an Oscar nomination for The Impossible) but he's not good at picking scripts and his solo Spider Man films are as basic as they come. Hopefully that changes with the new Fred Astaire movie he's been cast in. I also prefer the villains in this film over all others. Jamie could have easily gone the Jim Carrey route with Electro but he managed to ground the character in surprising ways and Dane was appropriately over the top as Goblin but his Harry made me believe in the friendship between he and Peter in just one film what others couldn't do in multiple movies. Do I think TASM2 is the best Spider Man film? Yes, but imo, that wasn't a tough bar to clear. Would I love to see TASM3? He'll yes! Andrew deserves to finish out his trilogy.

Spider-Man 2 did everything (with the exception of killing Gwen Stacy) that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 did, only better. It's a better film because you get the emotional beats of Peter struggling with who he is and his relationships, only with a script that's tight, precise, and isn't all over the place. This film is nowhere near as good as Spider-Man 2 IMO.

Most of this film works, including the key dynamics, the action, visuals and music! It's really just the excess of subplots that makes this story lose focus. On top of the cut Mary Jane Watson plot with Shailene Woodley, we had Peter and Gwen the emotional core, Rhino who gets cut off at the end, Electro which is one of his dark mirrors, his second mirror in Harry, Harry and Felicia, Aunt May, Peter's parents, the Oscorp head, and Ravencroft developing the Sinister Six. Cut off Peter's parents and other excess and we get a better story overall!

I had always wanted to see the Gwen Stacy storyline play out in the films and this movie wasted it. I still hate this movie because of what it could have been. While watching this I had flashbacks to the equally awful Batman and Robin movie. And that one dealt with grief in a better way. With multiple villains. But I guess TASM didn't have the Bat-Credit Card. This just had eels.

This is a really strong defense but the most catastrophic element of the film that you failed to highlight is the conspiracy element featuring his parents. Because of his dad's research and the idea of him being the "key" to the spider working, completely undermines the the elevator pitch of Spiderman's character. This is not just a "Chosen One" idea, its an idea that makes Peter Parker a natural born main character in the world he was born into. He was never going to have a normal life, nor is his life leading up to him becoming Spiderman normal. I would disagree on the points you make on the chemistry between the main leads, but that is entirely preference for either of us. What this does to how I enjoy the movie, since I do not find their dialogue compelling much at all with few exceptions, creates an insurmountable amount of unappealing dialogue over the course of the movie.

Though the "anyone can be spider man" can not always work since, its like a self insert thing telling you that "Peter", is and shoild always the person everyone relates to or upstands the ideal one should be if put in that situation. Which is one of the reasons Raimi's Peter was made and made as a beacon of goodness and filter's out most pf the negative thongs about Comicbook Peter. Its also another reason why people hate Spiderman 3. Since Raimi's Peter is a good self insert character, people have a harder time getting behind with him whrn he goes bad or off side. Which is sad since that movie's Theme is mostly about Peter having a conflict with himself and him going black symbiote Spidey is an allegory to it and the villains on those movie's mostly became villains due to Peter (yeah the Tony Stark thing). Whether be it for the story's good or not I think they made Web's Peter the only one who can be Spiderman in that story since its basically decided that this is this "Peter's story"
