Gotta feel for Ben Cousin's in all of this, he never got anything leaked and got done for bringing the game into disrepute which sorry to say but since this story broke its literally been the only thing on the news and most football pages and it also took alot of the build up away from the big freeze which I would of loved to here more about Daniher last week then about Smith

People make mistakes, as long as he learns from it! he is doing the best he can. Brett dilledio is mr know it all, how would he know what bailey has been through and what is ok and not ok. Every player is a human that has good points and bad points. He has made a big mistake! however he deserves another chance. Has he repeatedly used the same substance and is their evidence of that if so these statements are correct but im thinking that's not the case so instead if being judge jury and executioners how about listening to all parts of this scandal and then go from their.

He only owned it, because he got caught out. How many young footballers around the country would give anything to be in the position, of being highly paid for playing the game that you love, plus his endorsements as well. These guys get all the educations about what and what not to do. But many players put themselves on a to high pedestal. With any job these days, if you get caught with drugs in your system, it's an automatic sacking. It was ok to ban Willie Rioli for 18 months.

I am Uneasy about Deceiving the Young of Australia about Drugs, Alcohol, Smoking etc. We Know Our Physical Maturity occurs well before Our IQ Matures. Therefore Somehow the Whole World has to Improve Education and Genuine Law and Order. Drugs are Available because We Allow it. Worst case Scenario is We are Allowing Illegal Drugs to Distract from Alcohol and Smoking Serious Problems.

At the end of the day, AFL is a job. If I was to rock up into my level 1 industry job under the influence of cocaine, under most, if not all circumstances, I would lose my job on the spot and potentially cop a heavy fine. Similar rules should be put in place. One strike. He has broken the LAW here, and made a cheap ass excuse for why he did it. I'd vouch for the kid to be banned for life, but I know that won't happen, so I'll say at least 2-3 years suspension with NO PAY.

Well said mate. And you’ve got these arse clowns up on the screen here who are paid (supposed) journalists who are just teetering around the issue here as per usual. Zero accountability regarding anything in this sport whatsoever. One of the muppets actually said that this incident might actually help his personal brand 😂😂😂. This sport is in serious trouble… Nobody outside of this sport or its fans honestly takes this sport or the AFL organisation seriously… the little sob story from the player at the start was laughable.

"Stupid enough to let that happen" reality...stupid enough to get caught. The guy has enough ability to play at an elite level and is drilled to the point of exhaustion in avoiding this behavior, yet still made a really shitty choice. Don't burn him at the stake, but for crying out loud don't make lame excuses. The AFL needs to make a set of rules that is transparent and representative of the general communities expectations. Like it or not these high level sports people set the pulse for younger peoples behavior, and now that pulse is make a stupid decision despite all other advice then fall back on the blaming anything else so you get that 'get out of goal free card.' Wow, if this enhances his brand then Ben Cousins should be the brand rep of every high end company. And to say he put his hand up so quickly, give me a break, the video is from last year, he only put his hand up when it became public.

The AFL needs to redevelop their illicit drugs policy. 2 strike policy. First strike suspension for half a season on half pay. Second strike banned from any level of paid football throughout Australia for life. This is an elite sport and illicit drugs need to be taken seriously. Everyone understands mistakes can happen through peer pressure or just sheer stupid decision making. That's what the first strike is for and hopefully those under the category understand if you happen to make a poor decision again in relation to illicit drugs your career is gone. Most corporate businesses have a 1 strike policy where if you get caught with an illicit substance you are sacked. In this instance a 1 strike policy is probably too harsh particularly with the rise of social media and fame such as Bailey Smith has to deal with where he is centre of attention and he can be targeted and easily make poor choices. But in saying that these AFL players are well paid and are able to make choices to represent their club and the AFL. I'd like to see the AFL have a hard line on this policy not only to protect the brand but the welfare of the players and to understand that actions have consequences. The mental health side of things also needs tweaking as Luke beveridge has stated those that are clinically diagnosed are basically exempt from the current illicit drugs policy...which I don't believe is right. Everyone in life has some sort of mental health issue at one time or another some get anxiety, some have depression and some have it worse than others...however when you are at the pinnacle of sporting life poor decision making shouldn't be excused given the resources wrapped around these players. The AFL has club doctors and support staff who are close with the players and lookout for their welfare. They have some of the best resources (both financially and professionally) available to them in Australia. Their are plenty of players who take time off to deal with personal and mental health issues who do not turn to illicit drugs and instead rely on their support network of family, friends, the AFL and the club which is what the AFL should be pushing with a hard line of their illicit drugs policy and possibly even increase the funding for support of players both past and present to have a more comprehensive system around them when they are dealing with problems.
