    Since I am a paralyzed photographer so changing lenses can be a bit dangerous for the lens. I currently use the Tamron version and love it. The lens suits such a wide variety for a person in a wheelchair. Love the channel. I was a police officer and was shot in the line of duty. I picked up photography as a therapeutic means and fell in love with it. Thanks for all the help you give. Have a great day.

    Thank you for another interesting video Nigel. You are clearly the top photographer vlogging from the UK. Why? It is because your videos are entertaining, but also very informative and educational. You actually seem to care about those who are viewing the videos. Some photographers are only concerned with themselves and fail to consider the audience. Your positive attitude and open nature distinguish you from the others. Your videos are fresh and they avoid the trap of repeating cliche after cliche. Thanks again!

    Big congrats on the 100k Nigel! Well deserved! Father of 2, living in a city but escaping to the mountains as often as I can, I love my 24-70 (well actually my Fuji 18-55) for its sheer versatility. Nothing comes close, espacially when packing light. I can shoot wide (architecture in the city, landscape in the mountains), cover the magical 35mm and 50mm focal length for street photography, isolate details, get quite a bit of compression and shoot lovely portraits of my kids at the longer focal length end of it. I love every gram of that lens!

    I´ve just begun this photography path. 1 Year learning different things on my own only using the camera kit lens 18-55 mm. I decided to learn as much as possible with the basic gear and then go to the next level. The time has come and one of the lenses that have captured my attention the most has been the 24-70 mm because of its versatility. I´m ready for the next step with this lens and if the wallet helps me maybe a 35 or 16 mm too. Thanks, Nigel for all the knowledge and experience you have shared with us, I´ve learned much more with you rather than in the classroom, with due respect for all people who prefer this system and for all of them who have studied for more years than me in the classrooms. Cheers

    Hi Nigel - another great vlog, been watching your episodes since the Lakes course I came on with you, they always fire me up to get out there again. Also your timing is spot-on, I was pondering whether or not to fill the gap between my long and wide zooms and you’ve just inspired me to go for it and invest in the pro-quality 24-70 to ‘complete the set’. I now totally get it, for example re: the useful mild compression effect at around the 70 end. Changed my thinking from “kit lens” to “the missing landscape tool in my armoury”. Keep it up mate and hearty congrats on the 100k - amazing!

    Good morning Nigel, if it is an F4 zoom, I'd prefer 24-105mm F/4 than 24-70mm bearing in mind Z Mount does not have 24-105mm zoom range yet (adapt Sigma 24-105mm f/4 F mount?). When one is restricted by using one lens (zoom or prime), the creativity kicks in. You'll start thinking about what composition would work for this focal length in this given scene. Given the blea tarn superb morning scenery, I would not be a happy man if I don't have my 16-35mm with me. There is so much space you can step back before the descending begins which change the way you want to interpret the scene in your camera hence, 16-35mm would be more versatile there. When I do landscape, the ultimate tool for me would be 16-35mm F4, 70-200mm F4 and, if there's an opportunity for wildlife subject, 100-400mm. If space and weight is not an issue, I'll throw in 50mm 1.4 as well. Okay typed too much there, going to get my second coffee. Thanks for the video!

    I also have the Nikon Z 24-70 f4 S and Love it for landscape and travel - it's a very good lens. IMO, if I had to carry only one lens, it would be the 24-70. If I had to carry only two lenses, it would be the 24-70 and 70-200. If I had to carry only three lenses, it would be the 24-70, 70-200, and 16-35. I am going to play devil's advocate and say I find 24-70 quite redundant. I own a 16-35, a 50 prime & 70-200. I never find myself thinking "I really wish I was at 40 or 45mm!"... Or "I really wish I was at 60mm!".. If I do, I will just shoot a tad wider with one of those lenses and crop in post. The 50mm gives me a cheap/budget friendly, ultra light, sharp, fast lens that's great for every day run around stuff, and covers the gap in my focal length if it's truly necessary.. Honestly I find myself shooting either long or wide.. Rarely too much inbetween.. And if I do need it, the 50mm is there.. I do find myself capping out at 35 and 70 from time to time but don't really ever find myself hunting for that extra 10-15mm. Furthermore.. If I do need that extra coverage, I find a lot of the time I can just take a step or two back and be perfectly fine.. Would I have it if it was given to me? Sure.. However considering I already have a lot of weight in my f2.8 16-35 & 70-200, I probably would just toss the super cheap & light 50mm f1.8 in my bag instead.

  • @ee01233

    @ee01233

    I get your point, but the 24-70 is more practical as you don't need to change lens to cover a vast range of situations. From wide 24 for landscapes, 35, 50 for events and 70 for portraits. Of course you don't get 16mm or 200mm but that's the price for not carrying more lens or changing lens. Just practical and versatile.

  • @ausmarc1

    @ausmarc1

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@ee01233 I mean sure, it covers a very medium focal length.. However it gets completely redundant by the other two for landscape photography... And getting a 50 just fills the gap perfectly adequately, with far less weight for next to no cost. I mean we are comparing $1500 to $100 here. If you can only have one lens? Absolutely.. Get a 24-70. It falls under the "jack of all trades, master of none" category.. If you have the wide, and you have the long.. You don't really need it. In fact I would say it's just flat out not worth getting it. The 50 prime is perfect for events. In fact I argue that it's better as it's faster, for those poorly lit event locations. This falls under the primes vs zooms debate really.. A zoom lens is always going to be "more versatile" arguably.. However wherever you can replace a zoom with a prime, I say go for it.. And this is one of those cases in my opinion. The most value lens for landscape photography I argue is actually a 70-200..

  • @ee01233

    @ee01233

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@ausmarc1 yeah, I agree with you. If you already have a 16-35 and 70-200 the 50mm fills the gap for a fraction of the price and and you get 1.8 or 1.4. Not that matters a lot for landscape, but could be useful for night shots

  • @ausmarc1

    @ausmarc1

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@ee01233 Oh means nothing for landscape really,. you're right. It's just great for indoor shooting and general event work. But the biggest advantage that I am trying to stress is the size and weight.. Which can be a big deal.. Carrying 3x big zooms to cover all the focal lengths just add unnecessary weight and bulk when you're hiking. It's the kind of lens that you can throw in for next to no real estate but still cover that extra reach or get width that you may need.

    I am just getting into landscape photography, I had one lens for two years but just broke down and purchased a 16-35mm ultra wide angle. So far this lens has been awesome and I have gotten some really interesting shots with it. The 16-35mm was recommended to me by a friend, the 24-70mm lens looks very versatile!

    Love your channel Nigel! And enjoying going back and catching up on all the videos I have missed prior to subscribing. I shoot a Canon but do love the 24-70 in the Canon version. It is a beast to carry but I'm used to "heavy". Sometimes for just my own travel use I use the Canon 24-105 which gives me a little more reach and a great all around lens. It's not as sharp as the 24-70. Keep up the great content Nigel! And I've signed up to be notified when your new Landscape class is released. Looking forward to it! Thanks!

    I love the 24-70mm lens. Mine is paired with a Pentax K-1 Mll. It’s my go to for most of my landscape photos. I shoot seascapes and marshes and haven’t found a more versatile focal length range. It handles plants and flowers equally as well. A must have lens!

    Great video, thank you for educational and inspirational work you do. During my last big trip, I tried to save room in my camera bag and bought a Tamron 18-400mm as my walk around lens. Although it was lighter than bringing 2 other lenses, the images I took lacked the sharpness and quality I get from my 24-70 and 70-200. When I got home, I traded in the 18-400 and will go back to adding more weight in my bag for quality photos. Lesson learned. On previous adventures I would use my 24-70 as my walk around lens, and only switch it out if the circumstances needed a wider angle or zoom.

    lovely vlog Nigel and what stunning conditions in the lakes. The 24-70 mm was one of the first lenses I purchased after my d750 read so many reviews and watched so many vlogs on how good a lens it was I just had to get it and to tell the truth I have not been disappointed its a cracking lens for landscape.

    Great video Nigel. What I love about the 24 mm end of the zoom is how the lens angle of view and perspective come so close to the view angle that my eyes see as I prepare to shoot the scene. From a creativity standpoint, that matching field of view really helps me intuitively improve the final result. I can then just concentrate on getting the technical aspects correct for that great shot. Great job on video production, both stills and drone shots.

    I just got the Fuji 18-55 f/2.8 for my X-T3 and even tho this lens is considered a cheap kit lens it’s far from that, the image quality it’s very impressive. Great video and can’t wait for the masterclass.

Agree with your assessment of the 24-70 it was my first purchase when I upgraded to interchangeable lens camera I have never regretted that decision, a really good all round usefull lens that can save weight in the kit bag sometimes. Its also works well when partnered with a 70-200 . Congratulations on your 100k by the way well deserved.

    I have started to use my Fuji 16-55mm a lot more for landscapes, my initial hesitation towards this lens had nothing to do with the lens itself but more of my lack of "skill" when it came to composition and how to properly frame my shots. I am very thankful for channels like yours, Andy Mumford and Thomas Heaton for all the knowledge you share about landscapes and the joy that you bring to taking pictures. The 10-24, 16-55 and 50-140 are the three lenses I find are most suited to my photography style but also just to be able to fill the gap between all of ranges I would like to have. If the 8-16mm wasn't so expensive I would like to look into that one day as well. But I will say the 16-55 is the most used lens that I own. Thanks for all your great work and more importantly sharing it with all of us.
