I just took my 2023 Model 3 RWD on an over 10,000 mile road trip over 6 weeks.... LA to Branson to Chicago to Branson to Ft Lauderdale to NY to LA... NO ISSUES at all. And @gjeebs is so right.. you meet the same people at superchargers city after city and get to know the cities!
Agreed. Range does not matter on road trips. Your taking the trip to enjoy the drive, not get there as fast as possible. If that was the case you'd buy a plane ticket. Again, its a road trip and your doing thus for a fun memory or experience...enjoy the drive and relax. Autopilot or fsd and its a who new driving experience. Sit back and enjoy.

Plane ticket is not all it’s cracked up to be.. this week it took 30 hours to fly into Chicago from Tampa after 7 delays and a cancelled flight on United Returning it took 9 hours after 2 delays ….and I thought I was saving time by flying instead of taking my Tesla on a road trip😳

@@bridge1872 and United breaks guitars. Having said that, most if not all the domestic airlines in the US seem to have their detractors. I would always favor flying SWA, and never United or AA. Others would not consider SWA. Pretty much, it boils down to our personal experiences and those of our friends and families. Regardless, I'm not going to worry about air fare again, I hope, as I hope to do all my travel in the future in my model Y.
What I got from this video: Supercharging is easy and not to stress out about range. Just plan out your blow outs 😂
Just rented a Model Y from Hertz for the weekend and went up to the Grand Canyon. ZERO anxiety about charging. Tesla's are SOOO smooth. I'll be getting one SOON!
Buddy, you seriously crack me up. Love the riffing through this. Also, your premise is spot on, I’m telling people all the time that on my first road trip I lost all range anxiety.
Agree. Switching to EV needs a planned commitment. Make the road trip and the stops part of the fun of the road trip. Thank you.
I just ordered a Model Y Performance and found your channel. I love the information you are providing and comedic delivery. I had no idea this was your full time gig too. Such a brave thing to do and I hope you keep on gaining subs!

Just watched one of your videos for the first time, and I think I’m hooked! I really appreciate the narratives and I love your sense of humor. Good for you👍
2:37 - Done. NM to FL on I-40, a week on the gulf coast beach. Then I-10 back to NM. Did a bunch of fun things along the way. Never considered doing a trip like that with our old jalopy of an ICEr. Tesla made it fun.

Great video. I love seeing your road trips. I am doing my first road trip in aug in my MY LR, Going from new brunswick canada to orlando fl. 2750 klm or 1700 miles. Very excited for the trip.
I let you do the test and learn for me, so thanks so much for that. I let my new Model Y get down to 3% on my first road trip and juiced up at a 250k. Couldn’t even finish my taco before she was ready to go again.

That's what I always tell people - I never finish my meal or snack before it's done charging. I honestly think the oil companies pay people to troll every article or video on EVs, which is why so many people are scared to get an EV.
Hi just sitting in my Y Rwd here in Ireland watching and the speakers are getting a workout 😂 Thank of all the info and yes I watch my wife's makeup and frugal/minimalist We have solar on our roof generated 6 MW last year 😅 driving for free😅
This vid convinced me I needed to subscribe to the channel. Thoughtful/practical/useful. Well done Gjeebs! Keep creating great content.

"i love to feel the humidity" said no one ever lol. but i guess if youre living in the west, its nice to experience it once in a while.
I love your videos and this drive brings back a lot of memories. I lived in Phoenix for 20 years and have made that I40 drive many times on my way to Chicago. I have had my model y long range for about 6 weeks now and have over 3500 miles. It’s a great road trip car! They just need to work on some of the details like ride quality, auto wipers, auto high beams, cameras that don’t say they are blocked because it’s dark outside, but between the price, the performance, the range, the tax credit and the supercharger network it’s the most logical choice for an electric car… at least in my opinion 😊
Your videos are fun. I like how you ramble on and dont have these prepared texts. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone use the term blowing it out after dropping a deuce. Thanks!
I noticed the Autopilot got significantly better on a road trip to OKC this week. Normally on that stretch I have to intervene 2-3 times based on how hilly it is going north, but there and back I had zero disengages. Worked like a dream in both sunny conditions and at night. It had to have been in a recent update that it was adjusted. Also, nice Speedy Pro. Great watch.
Fluffy wasn’t fired from his “day job”. He clearly said he quit. That said, I do like your videos! You are funny. I like how autopilot called you out (@12:33) when you were getting to aggressive singing. 😂
Thanks for all this information on your road trip and alternate places to connect to and charge the Tesla. Nice to know there are other plugs we can purchase besides the Tesla mobile package they sell when we buy the vehicle. Take care.
We’re Snowbirds from the Philly area and drive to Venice Beach Florida for the winter, approximately 1,600 miles. This is our first long distance drive in our Tesla M3LR and we really enjoyed it. We can no longer do it in 2 days like before, but understanding that in advance we made reservations at three hotels on the way down and an additional hotel (Savannah Ga) for a beautiful visit. The upside, all that you mentioned, including the FSD Supervised. On highways it was incredibly, on city streets great, but not perfect. The extra hotels added costs and time to get to both locations, but it’s well worth it, especially when you understand EV Reality. Love my Tesla, I’m an early adopter, love new technology and have done enough research to truly understand that “forced” EV adaptation is STUPID, and counterproductive. I’m a new Subscriber, looking forward to your videos. Thanks so
Fun having you travel through my state. Oklahoma! I’m in Edmond. Got my 2023 Model 3 LR two weeks ago!! Thx for the videos!
We were just in Amarillo, that supercharger was great and at a convenient location. Great video!
I took a trip from Leesburg VA to Sea Island, GA in my Model X LR. The planning is easy and the stops necessary. Made it easy. The car planned the stops.
THANKS ,GJEEBS,FOR HELPING EDUCATE US 🧐😎, and the practical tips 🤗😎💚💚💚
Good mindset and humor. ❤❤
Haha Cline’s Corners! I camped there & charged my MYLR last fall! The hotel I was going to stay at in Amarillo was full and Cline’s was as far as I could go without passing out!
Your videos are the best. Entertaining and informative! I pick up my first Tesla tomorrow. MY RWD. The real world information you share has really eased my anxiety about making the transition. Now. My Wrangler Rubicon 392 isn’t going anywhere but gonna give it a break now. Haha. Anyway. Keep the great content coming. Especially these where you take some of the roads off the beaten path and share how doable it is with this car. Just great! Thanks so much.

Love your videos, a lot of humor. I’ve had a Tesla Model Y LR for about a year now. I’ve never taken a roadtrip, but I do 100 mi roundtrips fairly frequently. I think back on many of my previous roadtrips, and I wonder how I would feel about being off the beaten path. Places like Death Valley, feeling like I could go way off the Interstate, without worrying about overnight charging somewhere in the middle of nowhere…
One of my favorite drives outside of the Phoenix area!! The views are spectacular to say the least! It's time for a road trip.

Totally agree.... 500,300,200... I find 2-3 hours of driving is the magic number regardless of "range" ... also, the smallest bladder in the car determines the range needed.

Really nice road trip. You are the best at this!
I've used an rv plug. But I would say it's much easier using the tesla mobile connector with the 14-50 tesla adapter. I bought the 6 different connector adapters from tesla I think it was 200$ and I can use any plug style.
I owned a 2019 3 SR+ for 4.5 years and going from that to the Model Y LR AWD, on ~370 mile road trips the Y makes the trips 1-2 hours shorter than it was in the SR+. Did it in 7 hours with normal stops for food and bathroom breaks including charging which is very close to what it was in the gas car. Love those Ford people hahaha they try so hard
Made the trip from Mesa to Missouri last month in my Model 3LR. You got the bathroom at Burger King at Holbrook right on! The limitations of where you can charge are a negative though. Holbrook is a perfect example. I would have preferred to take a southern route through NM (Las Cruces, Rowell, Clovis) to avoid I-40. You can't do it. There are no superchargers. Love your humor though, the semi-functional lock on the stall was right on!
Great road trip video! So entertaining. We are planning a road trip Orange County to Redding in Northern California in a few weeks.
New subscriber and wading through all past tubes. Loving the humour and everything Tesla. Halfway through this video and smiling. I think it’s time you jump on a plane, hop the pond and visit your friends here in the UK chap! Rent a Tesla and have a marathon road trip from Cornwall, through London, Nottingham, Liverpool and on to Scotland. The Welsh roads in Wales are unbelievable on the west coast! Just a serving suggestion 😊 Have fun, from your friends in Blighty old boy 😊

Gjeebs, love it, another good one. #EmpowerYourAdvemture sales plug and all. Agree with you about get out there and meet different people - that’s a good thing. Need to work on your singing tho.
Last September, I drove my Model Y from Oklahoma to Montana and back over four days. The vehicle ran great, and cost me approximately $360 in supercharging. Negatives, however, were the lack of supercharging stations in the northwest, and the poor location of some stations, especially when arriving late at night.
Ive been thinking about creating a channel too. Been looking into potential logos and coming up with a focus of what I'm interested in to make content about. Thanks for the message and love the commentary throughout the trip. You're hilarious!

Ah missed you in Amarillo again! One of these days I will run into at the supercharger.

Years ago, I did a long road trip to Mammoth Lakes with the model 3 cruise control set at 90 mph and range did matter since energy consumed goes as speed to the third power.

Actually, second power!
@tech-utuber2219

@@mikeoberg1 If I want to double the highway speed from 50 to 100, it requires 8 times the energy, because of volume displacement of air. It is not second power.
You should do a video about living in a Model Y, should anyone get kicked out of their house, evicted etc.. it would be a do-able situation, staying at campgrounds, parking lots etc.
Great story here and a damn good lesson for life, listen carefully!
Just came across your video, love it, I am in the UK and would love to travel across the US. Especially in a Tesla. Maybe one day.
Love how there is no traffic where you are!!
Doing my first road trip, a short trip from Seattle to Idaho in 2weeks.
When my Xmas flight was cancelled and I drove overnight in single digit temps with snow tires from Colorado to Tennessee, the range was enough. Sure when weather and other factors are great 330 is more than enough. However, with less than ideal 400 is needed or maybe a more true 330 would be good.
It's cool seeing you drive right by my house on KZread 🤙🏻
Love your content and your dry humor too lol
I agree, range does not matter. I have a 1200 mile round trip to see my parents and did this trip many times in ICE cars in the past 20 years. One of those could theoretically have done 500 miles on one tank but I still took breaks. I have an EV now and charging stops are easy. Last trip I drove through the night and slept in the boot of my airconditioned car while it was charging.
@ 12:23 😂 bro you wild for that one.
When did you do this trip? I went through that New Mexico super charger and saw that bumblebee looking model 3 . Would have been cool to meet ya. Love the videos!
LOL, love the bathroom tip.
I came for the Tesla AZ Vlogs (I'm in Gilbert), but stayed for the out of pocket/random rants/comedic lawyer sing-alongs. You should do a local meet up with Tesla owners.
Great travel vlog! Looking forward to when most hotels have level-2 chargers. Ideally they’d be able to have enough for any EV that stays the night but they could also have someone move extension cords around in the middle of the night to stretch their charging infrastructure a bit further.

EV owners should encourage them to charge wholesale electric pricing instead of having other guests subsidize the cost. Then, we could expect hotels to roll out more chargers. We are gonna need them soon!
@matthewprather7386
11 ай бұрын
@@markhovis8033 there are several ways to get the EV driving guests to pay for the kWh they use - to setup the logistics.. Hotels could make it a profit center if they want.. Charging an EV off-peak rates might cost $5 to $10… If a hotel didn’t want to get into meters and all that they could just make EV guests pay to park in stalls that have outlets - flat rate. Limit the charger outlet current to match the amount of electricity the fee covers. I believe there are charge point operators they could contract with too. But a question they’ll have to answer is whether to provide lodging in an all-inclusive way, or more a la carte, charging customers for just what they use? I rarely eat anything in the “free breakfast” at hotels because it’s usually sugary garbage, but I don’t have a choice to opt out, so I subsidize the folks that tank up at the feed trough… I don’t watch cable TV but I have to pay for that. I don’t use the pool or hot tub… Or the exercise room… Etc. Is the EV charging outlet an amenity? Or a service?
Let me know if you come back through Indy.. Lunch offer still stands! I know you mentioned coming through in your video last week. I'm on my road trip right now too in Atlanta.

For road tripping in a Tesla, there are still several places in the country that need better infrastructure still. I drove my Tesla Model Y LR from Alabama to Colorado but opted to take I-40 across since there was a blizzard in Kansas. I didn't do much research ahead of time because I've never had a problem before. I found it strange that the Tesla navigation really wanted me to go up to Tulsa then to OKC. The issue was there was a 195 mile stretch of I-40 (between Ft Smith and OKC) without any chargers. I've made that gap before, but the additional issue was a 30-40 mph head wind - which severely impacted my range. Well, I made it to OKC by driving 15mph under the speed limit for most of the trip - with only 2% to spare. Honestly the only time I was truly nervous about making it to the next charger. Tesla is adding a charger at the mid-point - which will make I-40 a viable route soon. I think this will be mostly worked out in the next few years. I've taken the same trip via I-20 and I-70 respectively without any problems - so I was surprised to see such a gap still on the Interstate system. I've also noticed charging is a bit sparse in the northern Plains.
7 percent charge , im freaking out when mine gets to 20 percent lol
The 150 mph speed of the tip of the turbine blades sounds reasonable. About recyclability of the blades, the challenge is fiberglass, no matter it’s application. I understand recyclability of fiberglass is improving, so hopefully we won’t have so many 50 year old boat hulls sitting abandoned in junk yards. 😜

There really isn't that much hatred out there but there are those who would love us to think that there is, it serves their devious purposes to make us angry at each other.
27:20 - I bet windmill blades are easier to deal with than nuclear waste. I find it odd that people make such a stink about wind turbine blades and nobody seems to care about mountains of garbage in every town because we can’t figure out what to do with our regular trash: Dig a big hole and throw it all in there and then covered up dirt. 🤦♂️🤷♂️
Totally agree! We have never once worried about range on our 2023 Mod Y. If anything superchargers are too darn fast. As you say you’ve got to push down your food to avoid idle fees. 45mins imo is the ideal wait to fully charge again. Loving your channel and my car of course! Cheers from Australia!

Still watching but I saw a stop in the Tulsa area. Welcome. (I may add a comment after you stop there to make sure Tulsa wasn’t stupid)
I’ve made that trip in a refreshed Model S LR with cooled seats. Sweet, but still not as much fun as the Model Y LR, despite the loss of range.
Gjeebs, regarding your comment on Energy and Wind, here is a quick rundown from the US EIA database. "Combined wind and solar share of total generation increased from 12% in 2021 to 14% in 2022. Hydropower generation remained unchanged, at 6%. Nuclear is 19%. Texas accounted for 26% of total U.S. wind generation last year.
Range Anxiety is for the ignorant. I have a friend who drives a Bolt from Portland, Oregon to L.A. about every 6-weeks with no issues. Most people don't travel very far from home...they fly and rent. Even so ...distance traveling in an EV is pretty easy and getting easier by the day. Another thing is... Why pay for expensive range when most will never really use it. And range will get better and cheaper cuz we are just at the beginning of this new transportation regime. But... I'm someone who can drive for very long distances. My last big trip was from Portland, Oregon to Atlanta, Texas with a 4-hour stop near Green River, Utah. I once drove from Ensenada to Lund, BC, Canada with a stop in Portland to shower and do some laundry. Tube videos like this will hasten EV adoption...Thanks!
