These road trip vids are brilliant. The charging network, as you say, is years ahead. Especially here in the uk
Love the western themed ending. Gjeebs you’re brilliant! Keep em coming.
I am 70 Gjeebs and the nail test was used in the late 60’s. Amazing.
The only thing I don't do is try and charge to 100% on a road trip. The final 10-15% is so slow so I move on and usually get to next destination or if not stop for 10 minutes to have shorter overall stopping time.
If you're not doing an overnight charge, it might be worth doing a Supercharger session and the end of the day's drive while the battery pack is still hot for fast charging. I imagine the morning charge was so slow because of a cold pack.
I'm driving home from my night shift job and laughing out loud 😀 Love your videos. Watching from Louisiana 👍
Stay in motels that offer free charging so overnight your fully charged
Love watching your road trips! Your reviews are unmatched! Hope Mrs. Gjeebs, baby and doggie are all fine as well! Stay cool!
Don't own a Tesla (probably will at some point soon) but love Gjeebs you're my Wal-Mart Ryan Reynolds buddy and I'm here for it.
Good morning to you Big Daddy! These videos are awesome AND hilarious. I will also be stepping away from my 5 series BMW and ordering my Model Y in the fall...some of which is due to your reviews and general insights. Thanks for the info!
“I don’t hunt or anything” “Yeah, no shit” lmao
love how you got punchy on the road and border line losing your mind, lol 😄
Great video, Geebs! Keep it up. We just purchased the Vion Sunshade (definitely used the Gjeebs discount code) and love it. Helps so much keeping the temp down inside the cab during these hot months in Colorado. Thanks again!
That “look at your nails “ was in the movie The Birds Cage with Robin Williams
Nail test also made it all the way to Puerto Rico :D
“Colombo” the tv series was the first time I remember learning about the way guys and girls checked on their fingernails. Great road vid. Keep it up.
🤣🤣 The peaceful Chapel had me rolling!!!
Having just finished a 7500km road trip in Australia from Melbourne to Cairns & back, may I suggest that instead of waking up and waiting an hour at a 150kW charger... try slow charging overnight at the place you stayed (if possible). My wife and I did this a few times on our mega trip and it saved us a heap of time. Alternately, after dinner, head out to a charger & fill up, ready for the morning takeoff. Just my 2 cents worth from Down Under. Regards, Greg.
That Shockflo blip at the end was very Fight Clubish 😂
LWatching these videos make me want to take my sheltered, suburb-bound MY on a long road trip. Need to put some miles on it!
Thanks for the discount code for the into the am t shirts! Save 10%! 😅 Keep the videos rolling. We love Your channel! Jokes are funny.
Safe travels. We pretty much did the same route last weekend from Tucson, in a Hertz Model 3. Went from AZ to RI in 48 hrs, 45 mins. We’re about to make our way back out west in a few hours.

The key to traveling is to be navigating to as many 250kw chargers as you can to reach your destination. It can actually cut your travel time down. We tend to want to set it and forget it but you have to be on it from the start. I really want Tesla to set the navigation up where we can simply filter super chargers. The idea would be to set my destination only using 250kw stations. It should be something easy they can do considering how they have released stuff that was way more difficult to work on....so a simple filter would be great. Alternatively you could have used A Better Route Planner to set your destination and possibly set it to on navigate using 250kw satiations.
oh very cool you’re from pittsburgh!!! love hearing that as a pittsburgher
It is better to charge at the end of the day while your battery is still warm instead of waiting until the morning when the battery is cold. The longer charge session is your fault not the car or the charging network.
Love the videos I drive the same route Pa. lmao, the manure smell. I used to live by the farm near Val Vista & Chandler Heights. At first I hated it, and then started getting used to it and it wasnt so bad. Amazing what you can get used to.
Dude! I also go to Outdoor World just for the heck of it. Not a hunter or fisher. Just admire the store.
if i hear that "last night" song intro one more time.... lmao
Why didn't you charge at night lol
I would have hit a small bucket instead of the casino, but good job winning some $$ playing blackjack.
I’m in northern Illinois. I used the effingham and Wally one before too. I bought a Tesla because of the charging network I happen to live in the dead zone for EA and EVGo. They recently opened a Chargepoint fast charger 6 months after I purchased my car and it’s at a car dealership. Horrible placement
Be sure and stop in Uranus MO sometime. It’s a gold mine for material.
We are taking more road trips with my Y Also. Do you carry a spare tire? If so, which do you recommend? Great content!
@greghudson9717

I'm in Australia and carry a spare in my Y (it's a skinny space saver thing from the USA, limited to 80kph /50 mph). There is a much better one, same size, with a 135mph rating (not available in Australia unfortunately). Sorry, I don't remember where I saw it, but it was on YT somewhere. Google space saver spare 100+mph rating.
That was great. The billboards are still my favorite, but I was sure you were going to break out into some song at the end when the guitar started.
Another great one Gjeebs 💯
Have you noticed a bug on the navigation where it gives you the incorrect battery percentage at your next charging station? The battery % indicated 9% remaining at the next charging station so I changed to a closer one and the percentage did not change and the map was like a checker board.
Yeap. I've had to do similar things between long segments without a backup charging location. However, my experience is the Tesla navigation system is a bit conservative - causing you to stay at chargers longer than required. For example, on my Model Y (fully loaded with luggage and people) I had to drive from Gillette to Wheatland, Wyoming (180 miles). I left at 95% but arrived with 14% - averaging 80mph - and often going faster (sorry, there is _nothing_ in that part of Wyoming). Also the navigation system sometimes does weird things, so don't trust it completely - I recommend reviewing the route first (if possible). One time, it routed me past the correct exit, to the next exit, through the middle of town and finally to the charger. Yes, technically, it routed me there, but took 10 minutes and 5 miles longer. The only reason I leave my settings to 100% charge is to avoid idle fees if I get delayed for some reason, but I almost never charge that far unless I'm eating a meal at a nearby restaurant.
"You're deep internal thoughts out wit science " That is a slippery slope to the death. But so is your diet on the road
Are you my long lost brother? HAAA!!!
Love your content! Question, what sunshade do you have for the sunroof? Bought a cheap one but it sags😢. Thanks!
I’ve started my drive before with a super charge sesh, not fun. Always good to supercharge at the end of the drive while it’s warm
For some reason i have the liquor talks song stuck in my head😂😂😂
Fun fact .... Cuba NY which is in Allegany county NY and home of Cuba Cheese Shop! yep been there!
My favorite line when going to a hunting,camping and fishing shop is when l get home and say to the wife..... Honey, l thought of you when buying this... (Note; 50/50 success rate)
What’s the difference between this shockflo if I bring my Tesla mobile connector together with my nema 14-50 outlet?
if you have the premium data service, why do you always seem to have music from your bluetooth? Wouldn't the Spotify, Streaming, or Apple Music on the Tesla head unit have a better audio quality than music over bluetooth?
Here’s an idea for a video, have someone use Tesla’s suggested charging times/stops (ie waiting 55min) and someone else try and beat it by charger hopping/skipping - it would be a race across country.
I agree with sometimes deep internal thoughts outwit science, placebo effect sorta. Smelling manure IS good for you. Lmao Philadelphia/bucks county also had the nails 💅 test
You have a golf bag in your car and yet you continue to provide estimated distances to the local amenities. Am I to believe that you do not have a laser range finder in your bag? What kind of road trip caddie are you aspiring to be? You'll never make the pro circuit at this rate. Make use of the tools you carry, so I don't need to guess the club. It's not a tournament, so you can use slope and wind calculations to give us a really exact "walks like" distance. I expect better on the way home!
These videos are the best
Im sure its not feasible/safe everytime, but I had an idea. If you have a substantial giveaway (or minor giveaway), and have time, you could road-trip to the winners place and deliver it while recording along the way :). Then you have road-trip and delivery content to make videos.

Trying to decide between a Tesla model Y and something like the Kia telluride for a family car. I have two kids who are in the car daily and mainly just drive around town but would occasionally like to go on road trips as well. Have any advice? Love the channel!

I've noticed for the last few updates that the planner seems to favour spending a LOT of time at one charger and then leapfrogging other changers so that it gets max distance, even though I KNOW that it would be faster to make more stops but not waiting until it charges to 95% (!) fewer times. So, I wind up having to reprogram the planner with stops I already know to actually make it faster. Annoying!
bravo~ how unreal done. take it easy-Gjeebs-😇

OK...now quit your ranting and just charge the night before so you can head out immediately the next morning!
Jeebs... what kind of range are you REEAAALLLLY getting on your Model Y? And I am not talking about the EPA estimate... the one you see when you tap on the % charge on the battery at the top of the screen and it toggles over to miles remaining. My understanding is that is an "EPA Estimate" from Tesla and, in my experience, that number is an absolute fiction. I am talking about if you drive and deplete the battery from, say, 80% down to 50%. How many "miles driven" can you really expect? And have you ever ACTUALLY measured that or do you just rely on the EPA estimate that you are shown? The reason I am asking is because I keep a spreadsheet of "Charge to Charge" metrics (Miles driven, % drain, etc) and I gotta be honest... I am more than a little disappointed in my MY "Long Range" real world actual range. Example: Yesterday I charged to 90% (I usually only charge to 80%) before I left for work. 2 days of driving later, I have driven 152 miles and the battery % is 31%. So... the % has dropped 59% and I have gone 152 miles... 152/0.59 = 257. 257... WTF. I have 18 inch Martian Wheels which weigh 22lbs so my wheels are lighter than Tesla factory wheels (originally 20 inch induction). I live in Phoenix like you... and I have noticed that my morning commutes are much more efficient and give a calculated range of a little over 300 (barely). But the drive home in the afternoon and the efficiency PLUMMETS. Under 250 calculated range EASILY. Even if I keep it at 65 with cruise control on (and piss off everyone on the 101 in the process), it only helps a little. The loss is 25% to 30% decrease from stated range just due to heat and a little AC. Is this common in your experience? Have you seen the same thing or do I have an issue with a sub-par battery. Thanks in advance... any insight is appreciated.

You are a perfect data geek like myself. I recommend TeslaFi to track every single aspect of your car. Only $4 per month. Then you will understand where all the energy went and how your car handles temperature and speed, etc.
@paulgilbert2506
Жыл бұрын
It may help me understand "where the energy went"... but it still wont change the fact that under real world conditions, the range is WAAAYYY different than what is advertised... at least in my case. I am wondering if I am an outlier or if it is normal to routinely get 1/3rd less range than what is advertised.
@TeslaDo_d
Жыл бұрын
@@paulgilbert2506 At 60F degrees, while driving at 55mph, I have seen 210Wh/mi for a 2 hour drive. At -20F, while driving 55mph, I have seen 450Wh/mi on the same route. You will never hit Tesla's stated MAXIMUM range unless conditions are absolutely perfect to do so. According to my 113k miles of data, the perfect conditions would be 55-65F and 40 to 50 mph with no life support systems running. You are not an outlier. In other news, cabin over heat protection in 80F+ temps will take about 5 to 8 miles of range per hour while parked with sentry mode enabled....according to my data. Low tire pressure will take 1-2% more energy due to friction. A roof rack, mud flaps, windows down, loud radio, fog lights, high beams, head winds, elevation climbs, and especially...battery pre-conditioning will all consume energy and reduce your range. Short drives always seem to consume more Wh/mi than longer commutes. My longest single drive was 272 miles from Boston to upstate NY in nearly ideal conditions (there were a lot of hills in NH and VT, but the temp was perfect. Is the daily range an issue? I track the cost per mile. Currently, I have averaged 3.3c per mile through 3 full years of cold winters and hot summers (not as hot as yours). And I'm very satisfied with my cost per mile. Mostly charging at night from home for $.05/kWh. Battery has only degraded 7.5%.
@paulgilbert2506

@@TeslaDo_d The daily range is not an issue. It was just shocking to see 20% to 30% decrease in range with normal HW driving plus a little AC and NO other power suckers (sentry, low tire pressure, etc) .
