Why Spurs Are Better with Postecoglou

Спорт

On this week’s episode of The Breakdown, brought to you by Sky Bet, we examine which three ways Ange Postecoglou has changed Tottenham Hotspur and how the new tactics he’s implemented have contributed to a positive start to the season.
Do you think Spurs have improved since Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich? Or will they eventually drop-off due to the absence of their record goal scorer?

Harry Kane carried a lot of pressure which some other players seemed to fall back on. They are now having to step up to the plate and play for their wages and, more importantly, their standing as top supposed top quality. Finally, at last we have a manager who doesn’t pander to egos. Kane leaving wasn’t the end of Life as we know it. Ange grabbed the nettle and instilled a work ethic. Early days but good luck to him and the team he builds.

I think you are right - the number of youngsters getting in the starting line-up would never happen under the last few managers. Ange says that even for vice captaincy, age is not relevant - if you are good enough, you are good enough. This is one of the most positive aspects for me. The back 4 has an average age of 23...

The past 3 years of sideways and backwards passes and scraping points because Kane is class was making it tough to support and watch. I now look forward to watching us win, lose, or draw. It's only early but Ange has made us love watching again. He should go for the FA Cup, full strength, and see what we can do in the league.

I get the feeling that subconsciously last seasons Spurs would give the ball to Harry (the best player) hence he carried the team in many ways. Now there’s a freedom, the extra player in the midfield and obviously a manager’s instruction to be creative and making mistakes (to a point) is natural. They are a great watch, let’s hope injuries don’t expose a weak depth of squad.

Not sure that Sonny can play that number 9 role in every game, it’s obviously perfect for him against certain oppposition who want to press & play a high line but against a team that sits in & defends deep in a low block I think his electric pace will be nullified. Richarlison’s battling & hassling qualities are much better suited to those games. Even interchanging with Sonny in game is a option imo.

I'm sure they are scared of Ange if they have any sense. Needless to say Ange will be bossing the game vs the other "top teams" - past tense - before Ange joined EPL.

It just goes to show that it didn’t matter that Kane kicked 30 goals last season as it didn’t help Spurs win anything. Too much focus on Kane as everything revolved around him instead of the team itself. Now they’re playing attacking football spread across the team and not just one player.
