The sequels lost such a good opportunity in making Luke to stay away from the fight against the FO not because he was a sad old man, but because he knew that the Jedi were not made to be generals in a war. His order could still be up but decided to stay neutral in the conflict to avoid the mistakes of the late JO.

@@TheGreatPinkPillow27 I know, but is a very quick coment. I hate that the JO he was building was destroyed (again), the plot reason for that was to keep the Jedi from the conflict. But they already had a good reason to do so. It could also explain why Luke himself was not getting involved without appealing for the trope of the sad old man (that I hate so much). Also, why Luke didnt wanted to trained Rey. He didnt want to pass to the new chosen one the mistakes of the former Jedi whom he was a represent, being trained by them. Luke could have start to belive in the living force. In the end he could give her a bit training based on that, the believe that the force brought her to him. They could even have a line on how the Jedi of old, followers of the LF had access to powers long lost, like, healing. Something that would explain Rey being able to heal using the force later and tied to her yellow/gold light sabe. At the end, she is the one bring the JO to it is origins. Followers of the living force, wanderes of the galaxy, going where they are need and not agents of any goverment or army.

There was a moment in Choices of One where we got to see Jorj Car'das' thoughts about the Empire. I don't recall the exact words, but it was along these lines: He didn't like the way the Empire was, but he recalled the chaotic state of the galaxy during the final years of the Republic, which encompassed the Prequel trilogy and a good number of years before that. If he had the Empire in his right hand and the Republic in his left, he would have held onto the Empire and toss the Republic over his shoulder. Thrawn agreed with Jorj to an extent and informed him he had something in the works in the Unknown Regions - the Empire of the Hand. It had all the strengths of the Empire, but none of the evil. Something that Mara Jade Skywalker admitted she would have wanted to serve if she hadn't married Luke. Note - this occurred in the Legends timeline, but it could be applied to the current Canon timeline. It was touched upon in the Bloodlines novel. The senator that made his debut in the novel, Casterflo i believe, was of the same mind. He served the New Republic, but was among the Senators that had Imperial sympathies or something like that. He saw that the New Republic was beginning to flounder and believed in order to survive, it needed to bring in the sense of strength and order that was present in the Empire. You have to wonder if there were those in the New Republic who saw that it wasn't doing its job, so they wanted something else. That something else was the Empire. At the very least, they probably wanted to bring into the New Republic the strength and order of the Empire and none of its evil and oppression. That was the marked difference between the NR in Legends and in Canon. In Legends, the Empire was still a major threat after Endor, and continued to be so until 15 years later. By then, it had been reduced to a mere fraction of its size, and the leaders, specifically Pellaeon, were the type who would honor the treaty that was signed. While that was happening, the NR was able to build up its own strength and get themselves more secure in their footing. In Canon, the war came to an end about a year or so after Endor. The size of the Empire was still considerable, and many of the loyal fanatics disappeared into the Unknown Regions. But Mon Mothma and the other leaders seemed to be more interested in moving forward and trying to create a new government while forgetting the horrors of the many conflicts that had occurred over the previous two or three decades. The problem was that they were so intent on trying to forget about it that they didn't want to consider the possibility that the Empire, or a version of it, would rise from the ashes and start the whole cycle again. And when the First Order appeared, the NR seemed more intent on adapting a wait-and-see policy rather than developing an aggressive-defensive stance - building up their fleets again, but assume a defensive stance that was strong enough to repulse any First Order aggressions. That would continue until the NR fleet was large enough and ready enough to go to war against the First Order if necessary. Not a bad idea on paper, but the dismantling of the fleet after the treaty was signed crippled the NR's ability to follow through on this policy - too few ships to form the foundation for a new fleet.

Oh on the contrary they did. Multiple times in the prequels do the Jedi mention how they don’t trust Palpatine, that he’s a self interested politician. But there is something e Lee to remember. The corruption and Propaganda within the old republic had been going on centuries actually millennia, sense the beginning of the rule of two the Sith had orchestrated the downfall of the republic. By ensuring the most corrupt, self serving and incompetent fools got in power the republic was doomed to a slow rotting death, and the Jedi could do nothing as over time they became far too entwined with the politics of the republic to be able to see it from a objective and clear view. Adding to that as a result when the Declaration of the First Galactic Empire was made the republic did not finally collapse into dust, it simply stopped pretending. I remember there are a couple of comics where Yoda and Obi-Wan after arriving on Tatooine both realize individually that the Republic deserved to fall and that they had been blinded by hubris and ignorance.

Well stated. Tens of thousands of systems within the galaxy. Palpatine didn't want to rule over dust and decay, he must have successful systems to act as the backbone of the empire. With so many systems in the galaxy, he could easily afford to have thousands of planets come out ahead, be very wealthy and more prosperous than ever before. So many, an individual could tour the galaxy their whole life and see nothing but success and growth; never knowing what is going on behind the scenes at other systems. The oppressed systems would rarely be seen by the average populace as they would be labeled as off limits or too damaged from war to set foot on.

That's one thing that Legends and to a small extent Disney beyond the movies touched upon, but didn't quite explore - the Rebels in general, and latter, the Resistance members? While a few of them were influential politicians, and important officers, first in the Republic military, and later, the Imperial one before joining the rebellion, they never represented the most economically, industrially or politically powerful wolrd, systems and alliances either within the Republic, or later, in the Empire. Those governments, or sufficient parts of them benefitted by Palpy's New Order. Hell, the Empire wouldn't have been possible without at least the implicit consent, if not outright eager participation by the most powerful Core Worlds and their alliance networks. This has huge implications about the nature of the New Republic, both in Legends and Disney. Because in the end of the day, after Endor, there would be large chunks of the galaxy, with huge population, industry and economy, that greatly benefited by the Empire, perhaps to an extent they wouldn't have under the Republic framework - and that is because Republic laws would have restrained them in dealing with rivals, exploiting less important and influential systems, etc.... This means that at the best of times, the New Republic would have to deal with indispensible members due to their raw power, who would by deafult have Imperial symphaties, and the New Republic simply couldn't offer them as good a deal as the Empire did. And that goes for governments, corporations, and the countless regular people who benefitted by the Empire, at the expense of countless others.

Legends old republic had obvious flaws, but it was more like bureaucracy and any effort amount to nothing. Everyone for themselves. The new republic was more scandalous, and under constant changes regardless of good or bad. Sometimes it felt like sitting down to watch a reality show on the Skywalker family and whatever mess they got that week. Disney new republic tho, they're incompetent and naive. They're not even the good guys anymore, as if all governments are the same. Natural selection, getting nuked with how dangerous the galaxy was. I feel disturbed finding myself agreeing with the views of the empire more and more over the years, at least they had clear purpose beyond the chaos of democracy. Now, the circle is complete.

Disney's New Republic is a toothless organization that's even more ineffective than the Old Republic. This is not going to make it popular as it beings to fail in what many will perceive as its duties and subsequently they will begin to look at the Empire which did perform those duties (often all too vigorously and enthusiastically) and ask themselves if it was really that bad. Just writing it off to greed is disingenuous. But hey, expecting Disney writing to actually have any sort of depth or critical thinking applies is something only a crazy person would expect now!

I’d say the reason they needed to reinstate Imperial loyalists is because the New Republic is too small. They needed the help of ex-imperials so that they can build up a new government especially one being galaxy wide. You’d think being mentally reconstructed to serve the New Republic would be a good thing, but in Mando S3 the real loyalist were able to find holes in the fairly new government to move resources around with not much notice. Even ex-separatists we’re able to find there way into the New Republic here and there. There’s just too many holes in the current order with so much going that’s not being noticed, to sure of themselves to not look into certain events that’re taking place like on Corellia or even on Coruscant itself. I also like to think Sidious’s dark influence over the Empire hasn’t diminished at this point.

The scene showing Coruscant celebrating and fireworks going off and them pulling down a statue of The Emperor was absolutely unrealistic and stupid. First, the news of what happened would have had to get back to Coruscant, and what people don't realize is that Coruscant was the seat of the Imperial Government. It had Imperial Academies on it both Naval and Army, as well as a massive Stormtrooper and Imperial Red Guard detachments. The Imperial Palace was there with Mas Ameda and more of Palpatines advisors. The Offices of the ISB, COMPNOR, the offices of The Grand Admirals of the Navy. Basically what I am saying is that scene is so damn ignorant and Lucas should have thought about it a little more before including it in the special editions. For example of those looking the other way; Rae Slone in the Aftermath book trilogy is one of those who benefited from the Empire because they showed up and brought order to her world that was run by criminal gangs. You can note that one of the Empire's failings was failing to go on a massive campaign to crush the criminal syndicates which would've made people more loyal to it

Overall situation in SW universe is state of constant conflict, due to interference of the Force. Average citizen (not Force sesnitive) would not have great life because of that. Palpatine at one point managed to kill most other Force users (Jedi and competing Sith like his master Plagueis). Thus, war ended and economy recovered on its own, as often happens after devastating wars. Lives of citizens improved. Then some Rebel extremists (and lets be honest, terrorists) came along and started another war which again made things worse for average citizens. They managed to kill the Emperor, but were not able to create effective state. Republic again slid into anarchy. Many wanted their Empire back.

that is not true. before the clone wars started by emperor Palpatine, there was a literal thousand years of peace, which is just incredible, under the stewardship of the Jedi. the problems that led to the empire was the corruption and incompetence of the republic which led to the corruption and incompetence of the empire. the rebels may have been extremists and terrorists ( to some measures of thinking) but they were wholly justified in everything they did against the empire. the problem was the institution of the new state to replace it which was bungled.

@@aurum-anadeus4875 It is funny you mentioned that: Jedi created relative peace by effectively neutering themselves (no families, no attachment, no procreation, no children ...) , thus weakening Force-sensitive bloodlines. They also killed any other Force users they could find, proclaiming them as Darksiders. It seems that only way of getting some semblance of peace was to put Force down.

the thing with the galactic scale is that people aren't great at understanding exactly what that means, It's why the Clone Wars throws out numbers like millions. Cause we on Earth have organized armies at such a scale, but on the scale needed to see the ENTIRE Galaxy engulfed in war, that would have to be in the tens of trillions. Billions of Clones would have to have been made, with Billions more loyalists in local sector defense forces to support, protect, and pacify a population in its TRILLIONS. Some legends sources state the Droid army grew to such a scale that by the end of the war even with the Outer Rim Sieges still happening QUADRILLIONS of Battle Droids were being thrown into the fight with the CIS still producing tens of thousands of Droid Ships. So even if the Empire oppressed possibly tens of Trillions of people, by the sheer scale of the Empire Hundreds of Billions would have ever only known the benefits of the Empire and never had to see a Stormtrooper except for the patrols marching along the streets. Billions of people's lives had only improved thanks to the empire, Keep in mind the Star Destroyers alone needed over a billion people to operate, never mind the other ships, supporting infrastructure, etc... that's just for the Navy, the Empire could possibly be fielding in military strength alone 180 billion to 300 billion on the low end, add in all the support personal needed for such a system to function. Well, when the Empire fell hundreds of billions to the low trillions just lost everything. So it's not hard to see why certain people would support the empire, when you get to this level of scale the "Fringe" supporters of a broken empire are now 300x greater than the Earth's current population, hell their 3 times greater if we counted every Human that was ever born on Earth still. What's silly is that anyone is surprised, and how stupid it was for Disney to say the Empire would just fall after a year even with Deliberate sabotage...

Why is so much of the New Republic still loyal to the Empire? Simple case of weak writing. The last season of The Mandalorian and the first season of Ahsoka open with the exact same situation. A former high ranking Imperial is being transported to a New Republic Prison. Gideon's escape happens off screen, possibly from overwhelming forces, but Morgan is broken out because the New Republic captain is an arrogant idiot that gets his crew killed. The shows might be fun to watch, but even my 7 year old can predict what is going to happen. As I told my wife, Dark Helmet was right, "Good is Stupid." Too often the good guys survive by plot armor. Example? Why did Ahsoka leave 3 droids that she'd separated from the pack operational enough to detonate some sort of ground clinging nuclear explosion?

People see the Empire as a improvement over the Galactic Republic, and the New Republic as a return to that ineffective sort of government. Also, Palpatine didn't make the Coreward worlds rich. They were rich before he even got there. What he did do was root out corruption, redirect power away from the bureaucracy (the Star Wars equivalent of the deep state), and bring a much larger degree of security and order to the Rimward worlds. I mean, people talk about all the horrible things the Empire did, but the Galactic Republic pretty much did worse through their neglect. Take Naboo for example. People got rounded up in concentration camps over a tariff dispute. So sure, if you rebelled, the Empire would brutally suppress your planet. But under either Republic, you could do nothing wrong and still be attacked by pirates, slavers, Separatist warlords, or corporations.

What stability security and order did the empire provide? From its inception, there was rebellion basically. We’ve seen the empire from their own perspective several times particularly in Andor. The empire loved to talk about stability, and security, but if you live a secure and stable society the government doesn’t need to keep telling everyone about how secure and stable things are. However even if some regular joes found enhanced prosperity under the empire that literally doesn’t change anything I said in my post. I’m sure some average joes experienced enhanced prosperity under the confederacy too, but that has nothing to do with what we’re talking about here.

@@johnpjones1775 Then you’re not really familiar with most of the Star Wars galaxy if you're saying that since it is one of the reasons why Palpatine was so popular and why people hated other bureaucrats and the Jedi. Most of the galaxy isn't Coruscant or Alderan or even Ferrix. It's most like either Tatooine or Kenari which are either backwater crapholes or places plagued by bandits and/or organized crime. Back during the tail end of the Republic, these places didn't have any actual law enforcement whatsoever as they didn't have the power nor the will to govern them and left them to criminal organizations like the Hutts or Black Suns or they left them in the hands of major corporations like the Trade Federation who became a government in its own right. After the rise of the Empire, a lot of these organizations were either destroyed or put on a tight leash as we see when Syril screws up so badly that the Empire steps in and takes over from the Preox-Morlana Authority. How old are you and what planet do you live on? Have you ever listened to political ads before? Pretty much half of them are either talking about how stable and secure things are when their candidate is in charge and the other half of the time is about how secure and stable things will be when they get elected. So pretty much every government in existence, even dictatorships, talks about it. Then what are you talking about? Since I'm responding to how it's unrealistic for the Empire to have as many supporters as we’ve seen. Most of which I would chalk up to inconsistent writing, Flanderization, and the perspective we as the audience see in the movies and TV shows.

Star Wars is full of aliens, in the truest sense, and if humans can so easily despise other humans, simply because of slight physical, psychological, or religious differences, what happens when those people now look like monsters to which we ascribe fear? They don't look like us; they might not even breathe the same air. Plo Koon was a fine, upstanding being, so far as I know, but the very air we breathe is harmful to him, and his to us. Chewbacca is very smart, and there's no reason to assume he's an oddity, in that way, among the Wookies, but they can't speak in a way we understand, and with their more animalistic features, maybe it's easy to see them as less? What really separates us from dolphins, chimps, or other "smart" animals on Earth? If any of them could speak a human tongue, would we see them in way we'd be less likely to arbitrarily make decisions regarding them? Where this bubble is going is how many of these Empire supporters were simply human? Humans are incredibly widespread in the SW verse, and many either directly benefited from the Emperor's pro-human mindset, or at least knew of the better place some humans held over the orher peoples of the galaxy, which was how they liked it. And maybe sone didn't want to just go back to how things were before? The New Republic wanted to make things right again, but even when they could deliver, who was benefiting, and whk wasn't, or was actually being diminished, as for every gain, there has to be a loss? Yes it sounds terrible, but even the worst people often have some internal reason for believing what they do, or supporting the bad guy over the other people who aren't themselves. A bit off topic, but could we ever get a video about the gender divide in the Empire, or the lack of one? Stormtroopers don't have boobplate armor, unless it's a fan at a convention, and even Captain Phasma could've pulled Samus, and let everyone think she was a guy till the end, if she hadn't spoken, so they can seem uncommon. In Legends, we see several women in different levels of power, such as Admiral Daala, Ysanne Isard, and others, but were they still as unusual as they seemed in the 90s, when people might have just assumed they slept their way to the top, or other unflattering things? It might be an odd idea, or a short video, but after a wall block of "what is racism", it got me wondering, among the humans who were benefiting from the Empire, how many of them were women, or could be women? Just curious, as I feel it could have changed over the decades, as authors writing, and public opinions have also changed.

Sir simply put some people thrived under the "Empire". They are the only ones that want it back. People need to understand that is a large number considering it's across multiple planets. 👁️

It's a question that applies to real life. Just look at how so many people are still loyal to Trump despite everything he's done. There's no one reason, there's a whole multitude of different reasons from different people.

Sadly we're seeing much of that now in the US. Despite how difficult things are becoming under the current president people still look to him as, for lack of a better term, a saviour; which he is not.
