Do just 10 minutes of reading on that topic and you find out that most of the time, if it smells satanic, it is. Geezer Butler and Ozzy Osbourne were heavily into Alistair Crowley and the occult. The title track from Black Sabbath is based on a demonic encounter Butler had after painting his whole flat black and hanging pictures of satan everywhere. Surely „just a gimmick“ right?

Understandably when you think about it. I'm a parent and if you think back than, girls that were 16 were going to shows having parties and getting with the band members. People in general freak out about the same thing today we just have a different set of morality than we had back than.

Back when it hit, I got it within a week or 2 of being released, I was a junior in HS, HAD my HS sweetheart and me listening to the NEW SLAYER in my bedroom, as I had a couch and my drum kit in the basement man cave of the house. Heard that whole child "talking /screams" coming through my Pioneer home stereo stack (STILL HAVE part of 😎) COME IN, along with the KILLER hypnotic like guitar riffing WITH LOMBARDO JUST SLAMMING AWAY 1/4 time on the kick drums! I thought 🤔😬 THAT IS , some EVIL SOUNDING CHYT!...Some SLAYER fans are burnt on the track, OR simply don't care for it but yeah... NOT me 😊..I STILL enjoy it from time to time.. Plus? It WAS, one of the 1st SLAYER SONGS that I learned to play on the drums as well 🥁, lol. 😎🤘🔥🤘

Cuz Blackie Lawless GAVE IT TO NIKKI (Tha SWITCH) SIXX TO USE! Pre WASP and EARLY WASP actually WERE using the pentagram way before the Crue got REAL WELL known for it (as you said)..... SHOUT WAS definitely, SHOCK ROCK, BUT? It HAD a sound to kinda "go with it"...Then Theater of Pain hit, and THAT WAS IT, (unfortunately for the Crue IMO 🫤SMH 😞 WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!)......

Those guys don't have a mean bone in their body when it comes to their fans, they signed autographs in the parking lot for 4 hours after the '02 show in Atlanta at the Tabernacle. Kerry started greeting and signing first before the show, and again after. It was the original lineup with Dave that night, to everyone's surprise. I had the pleasure of shaking hands and fist bumping with Jeff, and I've never forgotten it. It took a long time for Tom to come out near the end of it because he was on a call on the tour bus for several hours. When he stepped off the bus around 4am he said, "You guys are still here?" 😅

Love ya Tom. From Salinas in 85 to Oakland coliseum in 2019 🤘

So, in short, we wanted to be the protagonist among our respective group, like WASP and Motley Crüe, but didn't want to be perceived as bitches. 😅

But they have embraced it only until these past few years. Back in the 80s, Tom was right, and the few "occult" stuff they did was considered highly transgressive (The Exorcist, The Omen, Poltergeist, you get it) and it had the same effect on the film industry as Slayer and Sabbath had in the music industry. Nowadays a film called "Summoning Satan" would be just another horror film, like it would be just another black metal album.

Cuz Blackie from WASP, GAVE the Pentagram to Nikki Sixx ta USE for Crue...EARLY WASP and (a COUPLE of) Blackie' earlier bands HAD ALREADY been using the pentagram in the tale end of the latter 70s early 80s era, and so.... Yeah, OTHER than a few supposed "occult based bands" in the earlier 70s? AND BLACK SABBATH of course! 😊.... THAT is really WHERE the pentagram WAS being used.
