• Why Skyrim is epic - See Skyrim here!
My reasons for loving Skyrim so much, and why it's better than Morrowind and Oblivion.
Although the newest in the series, I already have some of my strongest nostalgic memories with Skyrim. I guess that the length of this video compared with the others speaks for itself, as well as the vastly increased number of clips of the game shown in this example. I went on to record the game and ended up spending a good few hours adventuring and making new memories! Skyrim is to Oblivion as GTA5 is to GTA4. It's the same generation but improved considerably in every way.

    PhoenixBloodKing Haven't really played the old ES games. I know I am not in the position to say a lot about skyrim since I didn't even played the other ES games. But comparing it to the OTHER games I've played so far (which is a lot), skyrim is by far the best.

    If you liked Skyrim I highly recommend playing the older games as well. It's hard to get past the age of the games but they're pretty good and worth playing.

    TheOfficialNar Morrowind is a little more dated but it has also seems to have a few more options especially in the magic area. It's pretty satisfying coming from Skyrim and levitating over a mountain range that was in the way, for example. Oblivion is sort of where they started cutting things out, but it's still accessible. My advice? Play them both. They're both worth playing. :P Oblivion was my first ES game so it has a special place in my heart. Just lately I've been playing through Morrowind and then I'm gonna replay Oblivion.

    If you pay for it again go for special edition or VR, yes VR makes a huge difference if you got the PC for it. But make sure you learn about how to mod the game. Mods make the game into whatever you want Skyrim to be and update the graphics to 2019. You can add more spells than you can remember, improve the IA, improved combat, more clothes, armor, weapons, ect. You get the point, hell you can make the game more about survival to where you need to eat, sleep and thirst. Warning: It can take days or weeks to learn and then explore all the mods just to decide which mods to get so if modding sounds boring just get the basics graphic upgrades. I spent too much time modding the game but for me it was fun learning about it and I bought the game at least 3 times and been playing the game off and on since it first came out. (I need to beat the main quest line for once.)

    It's the same with Minecraft. Yes I'm being a bit of a nostalgic loser even though minecraft is so new, I played it when it barely entered its beta stage and it was all too beautiful when I made my first house I asked my friend (who barely introduced it too me) if the torch will burn it down. And it doesn't appeal to me at all because of all of the updates. I wouldn't mind playing it again but it's filled with kids.

    Abel gonzales The console I mostly play on is on my Wii but that's because I have Guitar Hero 3 on it but I might buy it on PC to mod it. I also have a 360 and I played over 300 hours of Skyrim on that but then I put it away once I became a PC gamer. I'm not the stereotypical PC gamer. I just like it more because I can use the internet easier and then I can turn on a game. And I also play less games than most other gamers which keeps me from calling myself a gamer. But hey, whatever way you can have fun without hurting someone else then that's fine. Visual quality isn't as important as other PC gamers make it sound. I don't get the point of buying thousand dollar graphics cards to play games if there isn't that many games that it's useful for. And 4k isn't that important, it's only going to be important once 1080p looks like if it was 720p on a 13 inch monitor.

    Agreed, it changed my life when I played it in 2011 when I was 11. I had no idea what to expect i had never played an rpg let alone had i even heard of an open world game. I just got it bc it was on the tip of everyones tongue. I had no idea what i was doing, i even attacked a guard in whiterun and I thought the "level" was to escape the guards. It eventually clicked with me that this game was so open ended, and my gaming life would never be the same. Skyrim may not have the cultural experience of morrowind or the side quests of oblivion, but to this day it remains my favorite open world map for its cities, dungeons that tell a story, unique locations such as shalidors maze, vertical layout, diverse but natural landscape, and the score that fits perfectly with the backround rather than just blaring over it like the previous titles. This game holds by far a deeper place in my heart than any other and will forever be my favorite. The nostalgia runs deep here, its a shame what bethesda has become with the boring fallout 4 (why cutscenes and a talking character, why is the map so bad) and the disgraceful 76, but they have already given us morrowind, oblivion, skyrim, and fallout 3 (without which we would never see new vegas) so im not too upset. Plus with cyberpunk 2077 on the horizon i can hardly care about elder scrolls 6.

    If there's one thing I've learned from watching videos like this and reading the comments of Elder Scrolls fans, it's that no two fans will ever have the same opinion. Some people still like Morrowind the best, but think Skyrim is better than Oblivion. Some people like Oblivion the best out of all three. Some think the series got progressively worse, some think it got progressively better. And a small minority think they're all dumb-downed, casualized shit compared to Daggerfall. In a series like the Elder Scrolls where you can do whatever the hell you want, opinions on each title will be more subjective than with other games. Each of these games do things objectively better or worse than the others in the series, and each one has its merits. Honestly, bickering about which one is best or worse seems so pointless sometimes. Just enjoy them for what they are.

    ***** So true. We do form very strong attachments to the games we play, and I'd be lying if a said I never took criticism of a game I like personally. But even then, I try not let sentiment obfuscate my objectivity and I willing to criticize even games I like. The problem is when people, using the example you provided, try to say that their game is better than your favorite just because their memories say so. Fanbois and haters alike are both motivated by the same thing, their naked bias.

I think what people fail to realize is that while each elder scrolls looks similar deep down they are drastically different.

    +J. Andres Munoz I remember first starting up Skyrim and sitting in complete awe of what I saw. Sprawling valleys, huge mountains, DRAGONS, tons of quests, GLORIOUS music composed by the legendary Jeremy Soule, and say what you will, I loved the stories that littered the world. Nostalgia is the feeling of wanting to experience something again the way you did the first time. It's been 5 long years, and all those feelings have been building up. I'm looking forward to creating more memories with The Elder Scrolls 6.

Well, my friend, despite what people say, Skyrim was a very enjoyable game, and I'm sure you'll like Skyrim: Special Edition this October! Have fun! And after you're bored of all the vanilla content, load up a bunch of mods! Consoles get mods now, too, so there's no excuse to skimp out on these! Modded Skyrim is awesome!

    I have over 5,000 hours in Skyrim collectively. I've done every quest at least 5 times. So I feel that I can safely say, the first time you experience a quest there's no other feeling like it. Being a noob and learning the ropes feels so good. And when you get to the point where I am. You wish you could just reset your knowledge and play it again like it's the first time you've ever done so. Thank God for mods and modders, with their help this can sort of be done. Until the next time we can visit Tamriel, for the first time.

    I recently got an OLED tv and its so good with Skyrim! Like new and better graphics just due to the tv. Especially darker images like in dungeons and at night generally. It caused me to experience high levels of immersion similar to years ago. A grass mod helped also. It made the Whiterun Tundra, and elsewhere, look amazingly better. Not only due to the nice looking grass, but also the draw distance. The grass extends farther out and so there is a lot less noticeable "pop in" . Which boosts immersion!

    You were talking about memories? I have one. I simply fast traveled to the College of Winterhold. My dear Lydia was with me, with a full pack and all of my valuables. I thought it would be smooth sailing. I appeared, and then looked around. Where's Lydia? She was walking on the edge of the bridge to the college, constantly running and not moving anywhere. Then it happened. She fell. I heard the groan of her death, and sat shocked for a minute. I went down and grabbed as many things as I could, and left sadly. I didn't have autosave because of the game's tendency to freeze, and I lost her forever. I also remember many times I saw the deaths of my beloved. One other time was with Meeko. I was at the Eldergleam, and we, confident, ran up the stairs and hit the roots. Once we got up, I got the sap. The spriggans spawned. I tried my best fighting them, and then guess what, they possessed my poor Meeko. He ran towards me and started biting me. I had no choice but to fight. And then, with much pain, put my final blow on his head. I killed the rest of the spriggans, and put his body by the tree, so he would be remembered. Another time was with Frost. I was at this fort, and I don't remember what it was. I do remember it was right next to a mass of water. I got off, and charged in. But it was more difficult than I anticipated. There were bandit highwaymen, and I was a lowly 20 something high elf at expert difficulty. Me and Frost fought at out bravest, but instead, I saw it. A bandit took his axe, and hit him in the face. He fell, and rolled down the slope to the water. I mopped up the rest of the bandits, and I was sad. I swear I actually shed a tear at the tragedy, so I left his body where it was, took all the flowers I had, and put them over him. So there lay the body of Frost, with many flowers, to forever stay. Great, now I'm depressed.....

    I Sir Laughsalot I lost Lydia on Shearpoint at around lvl 15. We were on our way to some ruins nearby and stopped off to fight a dragon/ grab some loot before making the last part of the journey. She was my first follower, and I'd actually lost her for a few days before she suddenly reappeared just after I left WhiteRun to sell some loot. Little did I realise that not only did Shearpoint house a Blood Dragon, but also a fireball throwing dragon priest. Before long Lydia had rushed off to go mano-a-mano and I was cowering behind a rock as fireballs exploded all over the place. I only survived by drinking several magicka potions and summoning hundreds of flaming familiars to run out and explode near the dragon priest. Every time I stuck my head out I took a fireball to the face and went from fill health to near death, so I just stayed put and for about five minutes let the fire dogs do their job. When it was all over, I saw Lydia's corpse about 200yards from her sword and shield - evidently she'd been blasted by one of y flaming familiars. Very sad - I looted what I could (a suit of Dwarven armour mostly) and carried on.

I love Skyrim, but I wish it didnt have automatic regenerating health. That's whats great about the Elder Scrolls. They build a world, not a story. What's the point of having a building somewhere if no one can go inside of it? Each house, tower, castle and crypt has its own inhabitants, story, design, everything. There's no copypasta houses just to make a city look bigger.

    Elder Scrolls VI will probably be a prequel though. It makes no sense that you saved the world from the ULTIMATE Apocalypse Bringer, the World-Eater Alduin, just to see that he was just a stepping stone for ANOTHER Apocalypse Bringer. It makes you feel like your efforts were wasted. So I'd prefer to defeat an enemy from BEFORE Alduin (that's why kudos to Online).

  • @OtepRalloma

    @OtepRalloma

    10 жыл бұрын

    ***** you have a point there. Still, as I said, as I said, it would make me feel like my efforts were wasted if there's another world-saving game. Let's list what you do in each game: Arena-This one isn't really end of the world-y. Jagar Tharn just steals the throne and sends Uriel Septim VII to Oblivion, and you just have to defeat Tharn and rescue the Emperor, so you aren't really saving the world. Just saving the Empire. Daggerfall-Basically you have to fix up the Numidium, which will help out a certain faction take over Tamriel or something. Not really much you do to save the world here, though. None of the six endings had anything to do with that (that I've noticed, at least). Morrowind-Ok, this one is REALLY close to a save-the-world scenario. Stop the Corprus disease from killing everyone, right? But it's not the ENTIRE world, so... Oblivion-You have to close the gates of hell. This is DEFINITELY a save-the-world scenario. One problem, though: Martin does most of the work. Skyrim-So you stop the World-Eater from eating the world. Anyway, as you can see, only the last two have a major world-saving storyline, and the former has Martin as the hero. Of course, I really wish Skyrim was the last chronologically, mostly because I want the Dovahkiin to be the last hero (therefore, me), so I don't have to re-create my character and create a new Skyrim save (I create family trees using my Elder Scrolls characters, you see). note: The choice to completely destroy the Dark Brotherhood is also major problem. It would be hard to explain why they exist in ESVI, and some people would HATE if it didn't (the only way to solve it is to state that someone who may or may not be the Dragonborn destroyed the Dark Brotherhood). Plus, the Civil War. HOWEVER, if there is ONE thing that would make me accept a sequel, it would be destroying the Thalmor. Hate those assholes. Talos is awesome!

    Joseph Ralloma (Morrowind Spoiler) . . . . . In Morrowind Dagoth Ur's plan was actually to infect the whole world with Corprus Disease and become some kind of priestruler, One thing that kind of bothered me about Oblivion was that most provinces except Cyrodiil just repelled the attack quite easily, but I guess the Imperial City was Dagon's main target. I personally hope that the story will be a new great war with a Adlmeri Dominion in the next chapter

  • @cappecfh

    @cappecfh

    What I mean is that the other provinces survived on their own even tho the empire called back all the troops. Even with all the legion forces in Cyrodiil I can't recall them closing one single gate without the Hero of Kvatch's help while the other provinces survived in their weakened state fairly well

    ***** Good point. I still feel sad, though, having to create ANOTHER character for my family tree. Of course, maybe (s)he could just be from another chain (Dragonborn seemingly can't have kids), so...yeah. How about the Dark Brohood problem, though? I already figured out the Civil War problem. Another province. Obviously. Zero info on the War. They probably don't care about Skyrim, right?

    I can kinda relate to the sentiment of growing attached to your creation (it's a similar thing when you're a cartoonist). When I first played Skyrim I played as a khajiit (mostly for the hand to hand combat buff and night vision perk) but as I played through the game and read up on the lore and the better understood everything the elder scrolls universe had to offer I felt like I was getting more and more in-character. So my Khajiit evolved from just "Tamok" to becoming "Tamok the Wanderer", a lone Khajiit who left Elsweyr to travel the continent of Tamrial after having been disowned by his family who'd been strongly against the use of magic and had caught him attempting to learn a Transmutation spell to convert mineral ores into gold so that he wouldn't have to rely on his inherited shop which was quite frankly not the best in the market as his family could barely get their hands on anything worth selling that other shops didn't already have. So he because a wanderer taking up odd jobs as he passed through Cyrodiil so that he can earn enough money for food and rent as he slept in several inns. when he got to Skyrim however he was ambushed and imprisoned by the imperial guard when they raided a stormcloak caravan he'd just so happened to be trading supplies with. After the appearance of the dragon the helped him escape from his imprisonment and recollected himself in riverwood he decided the least he could do is help out in passed word of what happened to whiterun. his adventure pretty much kicked off from there, but afterwards he wanted no part in the political struggles between the stormcloaks and the empire and after alduine was defeated he continued to explore and wander.

    Ahhh yes my first time playing Skyrim, still remember clear as day playing an Argonian, my very first time escaping Helgen running into river wood killing a chicken having an angry mob chase me out, re load try to steal stuff out of the imperial dudes dads house then got butchered mercilessly, re loaded again got out of Riverwood finally got lost trying to find the so called “white run” (seeing the huge dragons reach yarl house) I run past it getting lost with no hope at all finding my first giant, you guys know how that went I flew in the air thinking “wow this game don’t fuck around” finally finding whiterun I remember watching the blacksmith and that imperial guy arguing it was a sight and I fell in love with this game at that moment seeing how immersive this game was. I find the companions and that right there started my Skyrim love relationship. It has been a fat min since I’ve played Skyrim special edition I’m going to get it again today and start my play through through this gorgeous game, I recently began missing it and the feeling and like that “home” feel it gives me I remember reaching Sovangarde the first time and remembering how amazing it was just that feeling Skyrim gives you when you explore something truly magnificent is what makes this game epic. And so I start again with the my new character Jedreck Rocço

    Skyrim was an experience not just a game. Now understand this is coming from a person who didn't grow up with the elder scrolls games or was even into RPG games either. I was into more of the FPS games like halo and cod. My sister was more into fantasy games such as this than I was. my sister got oblivion and I definitely gave it a try and just couldn't get into it. Wasn't my kind of game. She got Skyrim for Christmas I think and I gave it another shot as TES again. I got to the part in the main plot right before skyhaven temple and my sister hilariously exposed me for how crappy my character was. so I started over and gave more attention to how the game worked, the world building, and combat. As I was starting to really learn how to play I started falling in love with it. Of coarse this is my first TES game that I really delved into. I really enjoyed the main story and the small but major story arcs that were under it( The thieves guild arc was my favorite arc followed by the college of winterhold arc.) I enjoyed the concept of being half dragon and half human. I enjoyed the shouts and the powers you were granted. What amazes me about skyrim is its world. It's a massive landscape full of people, animals, the undead, dragons, and so much more. it's a world that kept growing and growing and growing and to this day I still haven't completed this game to the little intricate detail. no matter how many times I started over I still felt there was something that still needed to be discovered. what's interesting is that based on the lore it was supposed to be bigger that what was given to us.When the DLC came in later to further expand the world and add even more stories and adventures my love for the game sky rocketed. I love both storylines in the two major dlcs we got. I personally loved Dawnguard's story more than Dragonborn's but Dragonborn's is still amazing. The amount of replay ability in skyrim is amazing for what variety it has I enjoyed what you could build in terms of character. you could be a gifted warrior skilled in duel wielding, a Stout fighter with a sword and shield, or a tank skilled in wielding greatswords or battle axes. you could be an Archer hunting down targets left and right, a thief known for hiding in the darkness, a mage who could heal, conjure, destroy, create, consume, and alter. you could be a strong masculine male or a swift flexible female or vice versa. You can have your own band of heroes or destroy the world as villains. Another thing that I love about skyrim that add some much more to the game lore friendly or not is the mods. Now that SE is out I can finally have mods on the console like I always wanted ever since I saw the PC mods. I have been playing skyrim SE Since its release and have not put it down because the mods add so much more to the game. More adventures, battles, enemies, character creations and much more. Skyrim truly has become one my all time favorite games I've ever played and am still playing today. It is a rich, massive fantasy world that continues to grow as you play. Full of terrifying enemies and powerful allies. Skyrim was an experience not just a game. If any veterans of TES fames want to talk about their favorite games, stories, weapons, followers, or just anything about TES hell even educate me about other TES games please comment about it I'd love to read it. Thanks for reading this!

    When i started playing skyrim, i was really bored most of the time. The quests weren't entertaining, the dungeons were rarely interesting, the dragons were easy (on medium difficulty). But the more i played the more i started realizing that skyrim is about enjoying the world. I started downloading mods like Frostfall, Vigor, Hunterborn etc. Just to make myself spend more time enjoying the world than crawling dungeons. Now i have a Skyrim that's more fun than ever to explore. It's been 8 years and i've just recently heard one of the citizens hitting on the girls in the bannered mare in Whiterun. In 8 years of playing there are still so many interactions i haven't seen/noticed. Skyrim gets criticized a lot for having the same dialogues repeat every time but people don't even bother exploring just how many different conversations you can have with NPCs. Also realized i haven't even seen the dungeon you were going through in this video. Guess that means i have a lot more exploring to do in skyrim! (I haven't discovered it probably because i have 4-5 different characters since i have to make a new character when i download a major mod.)

    Mario Revuelta Skyrim didn't atract casuals at all. It removed aspects to make the game less of a chore. Skyrim was an enjoyable experience. Experiencing Morrowind for the first time was just confusion and frustration, yelling at your monitor asking "Why the hell do my attcks miss, my sword is clipping through your fucking heart you swine!". Skyrims beginning was what ever you wanted it to be, before even seeing the first dragon you could go through caves, aquire a few artifacts, and pre patch you could make daedric weapons within 2 hours of gameplay. The point I'm making is that TES is now an action Rpg rather than a traditional one purely for the players enjoyment.

    I remember vividly playing this game late at night on Christmas day. I was in awe at how beautiful the world looked and how there were so many quests to do. I wandered far and wide across the map in the first few hours of playing it just to look at the different scenery and see what odd and unique things I could find, like giant mountains that I was able to climb, or the drastically different and beautiful landscape of riften. I didn't know you could look at a map or even fast travel in the game when I first started playing and my only regret is that I found out that you could. I absolutely loved walking on the trails, reading the directional signs, trying to find my way back to a certain town while I occasionally encountered a caravan or some guards taking a prisoner away to some other far away city. Later on when I advanced more in the main storyline. I lost that sense of wonder and astonishment. I learned how the dungeons were normally laid out; you could never get lost in them and there was always a secret exit at the end. The characters I had met before repeated the same phrases over and over again when I visited them. The enemies became easier and easier, and I became even more ridiculously overpowered. Even when I upped the difficulty to "master" (which was about not even halfway though the main storyline) It was still way too easy to kill and complete the majority of the enemies and quests. Everyone was hailing me as some sort of deity or hero, when I had felt I hadn't even come close yet (by average character progression standards of most games) to deserving that sort of praise. I joined most of the factions and finished the main story and was left with a deep feeling of disappointment. Then I played Oblivion and that sense of wonder and astonishment in the world's detail that comes from playing this type of game for the first time didn't go away the more I had played it. Oblivion felt like it had fixed almost everything that was wrong with Skyrim even though it had came before it. And now Oblivion remains as one of my favorite games of all time. The only redeeming qualities of Skyrim in my eyes is that it has good graphics, and it modernized these types of games, but at the cost of dumbing it down or "casualizing" the game.

    In my opinion Oblivion and Skyrim are no where even CLOSE to being as good as Arena, Daggerfall, or Morrowind. For Christ's sake they added a magical compass that tells you exactly where to go for all of your quests eliminating all intelligence needed to find anything. On Morrowind I remember literally being LOST in the wilderness looking for my quests but I wasn't even mad because there was so much random shit you found just wandering through the world in that game. Also in Oblivion and Skyrim they gave you the magical option of fast traveling no matter where you are in the world, this is another reason the series was ruined. What made the previous games so awesome is the feeling you had when you were in the middle of no where in the massive world of the game, there was no way out, you had to find your way back to the cities and along the way you would run into so many cool things. I miss the old Elder Scrolls games, the ones before they started designing them for children who need a magical compass to show them exactly where to go.

  • @CrazedJacob

    You know you could disable the compass and not fast travel. Problem solved.

  • @haydenharris5060

    @haydenharris5060

    10 жыл бұрын

    Not at all. When/if you disable the compass, you cannot find anything because the game doesn't give you sufficient information to find the location of your quests without the compass because it assumes you're going to use the compass. Also not fast traveling in the new games also doesn't solve any problem because since they assume you will be fast traveling every where, they didn't design the game to be as abundant with things in the wilderness like Morrowind did so walking everywhere is just boring as shit. And even if you were right and those 2 things you suggested solved any sort of problem (which they don't) that isn't the point. The point is that Bethesda is catering to impatient 12 year olds who don't want to use their brains. The games are getting more and more dumbed down as they come out. I don't think the newer Elder Scrolls Games are BAD games I just think that Bethesda is going the complete wrong direction with the magic compass that eliminated all required thought and the unlimited fast travel in their games. Have a good one.

  • @CrazedJacob

    @CrazedJacob

    Hayden Harris I guess I said that because I've played Skyrim so much that I pretty much memorized where most stuff is. I agree with you on not fast traveling, but the game gets away with it a little bit because it's supposed to be harsh and bleak. Good day, sera.

    Jacob whydoesmylastnamematter No fast travel at all on an Elder Scrolls game would be awful as well but I think Morrowind's solution nailed it. There are massive animals called silt striders that are in some cities that you can take to some other cities which is helpful, also you can take some boats that are in a couple cities to other cities that have boats but besides that, your ass is walking.

    Hayden Harris Skyrim also has the carriages that take you to major cities (and small towns if you have 'Hearthfire' & and one of the three plots of land), and there are boats that take you to other port cities (and Castle Volkihar if you have 'Dawnguard'.). I'm not sure about Oblivion, I've been looking for carriages and stuff though. Back to having fast travel, Oblivion's fast travel doesn't make sense to me at all because you don't have have to discover major cities to go fast travel to them. Skyrim's fast travel was an improvement, but no fast travel is still more fun.

    Kenneth Donnelly First off, he doesn't save you intentionally. He actually tries to kill everyone there but you escape. Second the story isn't that bad, it may be a little bit the same but it's still a good story such as the boss fights, learning about your powers, and gaining allies. The point of Alduin is to show how strong you've gotten and it's your destiny to defeat him to save humanity.

    Thank you for making this video. Skyrim means the same to me as it does to you, but I’ve been seeing so much shit about it on KZread that it makes me stop playing for a while. But watching mod reviewers or people who just like the game gives me new ideas on what to do next, new outlooks on the way I think about Skyrim, and overall makes me long to jump back into the huge, densely filled, never ending, world we now as the elder scrolls Skyrim.

    i've played so many games, I thought I'd never find a game I could never get sick of. Then on chance, I bought skyrim because I heard it was fun. I did no research, knew nothing, and Skyrim blew my mind. The beginning was alright I guess, but once the first hour was over, I was addicted. Every new quest, every new place, everything just kept getting better and better. I don't think I'll ever be able to quit in all honesty. I've been playing it for 388 hours over a span of a month or so and I just can't get enough. I've played lots of games and some of them did touch my heart, but none made me feel like Skyrim does. Skyrim is like another existence, and my character is part of that world. I can do anything I want and that is something I've always longed for in games.
