After replaying Arkham Knight, I started to appreciate Scarecrow a lot more. I wish more comic writers actually used him beyond his fear toxins.

Crane actually talked a man into suicide without the toxin…they definitely don’t want to accurately portray him because he brings up many issues most don’t feel comfortable discussing. Joker can be hid by the “crazy” label but many agree that Scarecrow isn’t crazy…just evil.

I describe Scarecrow as the Anti Batman, while I do have Some Issues with Arkham Knight, I will admit I can see where they were going with Johnathan Crane.

@@phoenixwright2420well I read that as a kid he was bullied in school and abused by his alcoholic dad that’s why he later developed the fear toxin as an adult to inflict that same fear that he had as a kid to others so I’m sure being bullied and abused by his alcoholic dad had something to do with why he turned crazy

You know what's great about his demonstration at the start of Knight? If people stay, Batman will have to watch the people he protects suffer; but even if they leave its because they abandoned their trust in him out of purely natural fear he created. Either way, fear wins.

With all due respect Completely false lol, they left cause he was literally gonna bomb the city in fear gas, (Which he did although only partially as Batman was able to contain most of it) they left cause of their own safety not because they lost faith in Batman. That makes literally no sense, Batman stopped Hugo Strange and brought a stop to Arkham city, he stopped a breakout and joker invading the city in Arkham asylum, and before Arkham knight if you were paying attention crime was at an all time low in Gotham, so they literally had no reason to lose their faith in Batman, as a matter of fact the citizen, GCPD, firefighters actually had immense faith in Batman by the time Arkham knight came around, which is clearly shown in the game If someone threatens to unleash a bomb then stating the obvious only by law everyone must evacuate. You think the police are just gonna let everyone sit in their homes while a maniac and other maniacs run about the city freely and are about to let off a chemical weapon? Of course not

Prior to Arkham City, Poison Ivy was dying of the titan overdose same as Joker. Quincy Sharp left her to die in a sealed tank. As she was dying she prayed to God for salvation and who just happens to walk by but a priest that tries to get her out. He also just happened to have a type of pollen on his coat from the trees outside his church which Ivy was able to synthesize into a cure. Ivy then goes on to save Gotham from the fear toxin as we all know.

I do wish scarecrow posed more of a threat in arkham knight because the voice and presence is menacing but he was kinda sidelined

True. When I were playing Arkham Knight, I really wanted to see more Scarecrow, not freaking Jonkler. I pretty like his versions in Asylume, City and especially Origins but… it is not necessarily to add him EVERYWHERE.

I'm pretty sure Arkham Asylum's Scarecrow was supposed to be similar to Freddy Krueger, the loud voice, the syringes on his fingers, the Nightmare sequences, everything just makes him seem like good ol' Freddy K, while the Knight version is more like how you'd imagine pure evil, a man who straight up broadcasts himself saying taht he's going to commit terrorism, before doing so, he even shows off his terrifying face(Just to know, that's not a mask, THAT IS HIS FACE!!!!), he wears dark clothes, and wears vials of his Toxin on his outfit, he speaks in a deep, menacing voice, making sure to show everyibe whag a TRUE nightmare looks like...

I really enjoy this scarecrow version. All scarecrow version was a peak villain top and a huge threat for Batman but this scarecrow felt almost horror vibe. Almost like a fromsoft boss with his design. I love it. I hope with injustice 3 they’ll bring this look for him. ❤❤❤❤

After Arkham City with Joker’s death, I wondered, who would be the next in line as THE main antagonist against Batman, and Scarecrow was the best choice Rocksteady made. Joker is still fighting Batman mentally but Scarecrow being the catalyst pushing Bruce’s insanity bringing Joker out was so good. Scarecrow is the perfect next villain to foil Batman because he’s not that different from him. If Batman is a symbol of Hope to the innocent, he’s also the symbol of Fear to the corrupt. He uses Fear to combat his foes and scare criminals, it becomes a straight mechanic with “Fear Takedowns”, and Scarecrow challenging that ability of Fear onto Gotham. What will make you truly scared is watching your unwavering Hero fall in fear themselves, that’s what Scarecrow wants. Testing him with everything from taking away Barbra and Robin, recruiting Jason who is his regret, and unintentionally reviving the Devil himself Joker. Fighting fire with fire, using the same fear Batman uses against criminals against him. And on Halloween at that. It’s so cool to see so an interesting take on a character, who was no more than a stepping stone to the real villains, finally take charge and doing actual damage was such good development. Arkham Knight Scarecrow is so cool

Arkham Scarecrow is easily my favourite Batman villian and one of my favourite characters of all time, so glad more people are starting to recognise his awsomeness

One thing I always found kinda interesting, is despite him claiming that he doesn’t care who Batman actually is, he’s still a bit taken aback when he finds out he’s Bruce Wayne.

He would be a really good fit for the Robert Pattinson Batman movies, that world and lighting would mix so well with scarecrow and his fear toxin

I love joker in asylum and city but Scarecrow in knight was done so well

His voice changed because Croc ripped out most of his vocal cords at the Asylum and he was blaming Batman for not helping him when there wasn’t much he could do. He tried by throwing a batarang but it doesn’t do anything

I think its important to remember that crane is also a broken man who spent his entire life devoted to uncovering the human mind. Hes a licensed therapist, a position we usually associate with helping and understanding, but he uses this knowledge to hurt and hinder. And what I think makes him a great villian in arkham knight specifically is that he has someone to focus on. Before croc mauled him he just wanted to sow fear and chaos and the general public, but he blames batman for not saving him, giving him...a patient.

He's not just my favorite Batman villain, he's my personal favorite villain of all time and I hate how he gets shafted as much as he does. I'm glad Arkham Knight gave him the main antagonist role he was long overdue for because of how he was the one who ended Batman's career in the Arkham Games.

Yes I love scarecrow and this is why. Whenever someone asks I tell them that it’s because he’s completely unredeemable and evil

Love Scarecrow. He’s my fav DC character & fav villain. Finally people appreciate him more in AK. If SS did one good thing, then that people start to play AK again. I wish Scarecrow got his own comic too, like Harley does. DC could make it more horror based.

SPOILER . . . . In a way, Scarecrow kind of got revenge in SS too. Harley essentially defeated Corrupted Batman using an improved Fear Toxin formula she outright says she learned from Crane in their time at Arkham post-Knight. Eventually, it seems, he perfected his fear gas conceptually to the point it could overcome the bat.

I agree Joker kind of overused and overstayed his welcome so Scarecrow is an interesting change of pace. I honestly surprised that DC has not utilized Scarecrow more as a main villain until recently in Arkham Knight although they now used in Fear State but I heard it was not Bruce facing Crane

Scarecrow is good in this game. I think had they made the 5th Batman movie Jeff Goldbloom or Nicholas Cage would have been better than Cillian Murphy whose Scarecrow was lacky for Ra's AlGoul.

Honestly.. yeah a game with no joker for once would be great, Joker no doubt is an awesome villian who toys with batmans code, but there's more to it with others and their stories/ motivation

So just to be clear, between Asylum and Knight Scarecrow changes his character design, his voice actor, his whole persona and becomes obsessed with exposing Batman to the world. That is some glow up.... Jokes aside, even though I really like the idea of the character, for some reason he's always relegated to the role of a side-villain. Even in Arkham Knight where he is supposed to be the main villain he is overshadowed by the Joker. I think this is just because, as far as I know, he still hasn't received any kind of definite origin story ever since his first appearance in 1941. Because of that, he doesn't really have clearly defined motivations or personality. He's just the spooky halloween guy, who makes you hallucinate, which brings up another issue. Because of the nature of his ability, whenever he appears in stories the focus is not on him, but on the psychological struggles the characters face because of his toxin, thus making him inconsequential to the narrative, which is what happens all the time.

In the comics he's Kung Fu master.

Excellent video when people often ask me who is my favorite Batman villain scarecrow always at the top of the list hopefully see him as the main antagonist like in the Batman part two or other media

Scarecrow is my favorite Batman villain, and it's quite frustrating to see how underutilized he's been in most media.

Love seeing Dr. Crane getting the respect he so deserves. A villain since 1940 Scarecrow is without question one of the smartest villains in his Rouges Gallery. While he is often played off in a lame manner he seems to finally be getting the recognition and respect he deserves. From Batman TAS to the comics and movies I hope we continue to see him portrayed as one of the most dangerous and sociopathic villains there are. Everyone knows Joker, Penguin, Catwoman and Riddler then the second tier seems to be Two Face, Poison Ivy and Scarecrow. I consider Scarecrow as dangerous as the Joker. Both of them are psychopaths and murder anyone without mercy. There are si many great Scarecrow stories but still not enough. I am a bit disappointed with Matt Reeves and all this hype for a sequel to the first movie which now won’t be released till 2026. They have some major issues not yet leaked regarding these big overhyped plans Reeves has including the HBO/MAX Penguin series to movies highlighting villains such as Scarecrow, Professor Pig, Hugo Strange and Clayface. He has taken on more then he can handle and I see this new Batman evolution blowing up in our faces. Hope I’m wrong. But I doubt it. Anyways great video and tribute to my favorite Batman nemesis.

I really like Scarecrow. He has been my most favorite Batman villain ( alongside Joker) since I was a kid. The thing I got to love scarecrow is the imaginext figure of him that came with Poison Ivy ( that was a 2 pack I got years ago ) I know it was ages 3 - 8, but I still enjoyed it because I am . I also been experiencing more of Scarecrow on how he uses fear itself to rue the world of gotham and of course Batman and his allies in trust. To my opinion, Scarecrow is an awesome super villain, not only of DC or Batman, but In Reality and will always be my favorite. Thank you for the video for describing more of Scarecrow.

If Joker is Batman’s ying to his Yang, Scarecrow is his equal antithesis. Whilst Batman uses fear as a tactic, Scarecrow studies it like a master professor

I remember playing this game as a kid, before this I had played all of the games (arkham Origins is still underated), and nothing really scared me, which is saying a lot considering I was like 10. Scarecrow and Professor Pyg were something that disturbed me the most ever, that second one a bit more, but Scarecrow is still amazing, and in my eyes my personal favorite villain.

Yeah I love how they made scarecrow the main villain. I mean of all the villains he is high on the list of ones who can be main villains. Also in Arkham knight it perfectly represents scarecrow he’s not just his fear gas. He wants to learn, study, and master fear. He wants to kill the legend of the Batman to make the city of Gotham lose its hope.

4:48 wanna point out a minor thing; He didn't choose to change his voice, it too is a result of the attack from croc alongside his appearance.

The change of Scarecrow from Asylum to Knight is the same as his change from BTAS to The New Batman Adventures.

Honestly, Arkham Knight is my absolute favourite game in the Arkhamverse, as well as one of my favourite games period, and this portrayal of Scarecrow was a major contribution. In addition to the chilling baritone vocals provided by John Noble, he was a villain who was calculating, patient, sadistic, and very intelligent. So much so that he really got under Batman's skin, brought him down on his knees, and took away what made him a legend. Then came Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League and completely ignored all that

I must say this video was beautifully scripted. Honestly so eloquent and stunningly written. I can feel your passion and its very impactful and only adds to your argument

Gotta say, that Scarecrow is every bit as scary as hell.

I think Scarecrow might be my favorite. The Joker is wildly iconic, but I think he is slept on. He's not just his toxin. I played Arkham Asylum when it came out all those years ago. The Scarecrow sections actually kind of scared of me back then. His AK design is so macabre, and I love it. I also like how Scarecrow actually "won." Without Ivy and Mr. Fox, all would be doomed. If the AK himself hadn't broken off, either, Scarecrow would keep the Cloudburst and Bats would be hopeless.

Scarecrow is my favorite as well. Every good villain in some way is a dark reflection of the hero. Scarecrow represents the fear aspect without the moral compass, Joker is chaos to Batman's sense of law and order, Ra's Al Ghul (another favorite of mine) is Law and order without the sense of compassion. Scarecrow also amplifies the horror aspect to the franchise, same as Man-Bat, as a horror fan, I can appreciate that. The Arkham series is the best portrayal of Scarecrow that I know of and I wish DC would utilize him more like this in the comics and movies. I do like his portrayal in Batman Begins and it would have been great if Nolan had used him more in the sequels.

The thing is, Scarecrow's entire character DOES correlate back to Bruce just like the other villains do in different ways. Both Batman and Scarecrow use fear to their advantages, both their internalized fears that they've learned to overcome and utilizing fear on others. But where they differ is how Scarecrow uses the power of fear to manipulate and destroy others whereas Batman of course uses fear to control criminals and therefore protect the innocent. Scarecrow is honestly my favorite Batman villain and DC character in general and it really bums me out how often he's just sidelined in everything when he could be a genuine threat when written properly like in Arkham Knight. And what's more interesting that's not explored much outside the comics is how he was once just a scared child same as Bruce after his parents died, but Jonathan went through severe abuse growing up. (My favorite version of his story because it goes so in depth is the Year One: Batman/Scarecrow comic) They both eventually faced their fears and learned from it, but with very different outcomes. And that's my reason for thinking he's the best Batman villain.🖤

I’m still surprised scarecrow survived getting mauled by killer croc

I love the video

scarecrow is amazing. really. but i loathed the main villain of arkham knight being 1. joker, 2. jason. and when scarecrow was given his ‘moment’ bruce over comes it with plot armour because the toxin affects joker’s blood instead(? he’s also the only joker infected to ever ‘over come’ it.. and at such convenient timing too 😐) anyway. another thing that bothered me was scarecrow’s ‘development’ in arkham knight. more so as in the fact that his interpersonal relationships with none of the other villains were delved into. Especially the arkham knight because there is a layer of respect, no matter how strained their relationship is, with jason approaching scarecrow first for his cooperation (as shown in the audio tapes) as well as his cloudburst, him respecting scarecrow by calling him ‘boss’ or ‘sir’ throughout the game, and even at the end when he had the opportunity to kill scarecrow, jason doesn’t. their relationship simply dissolves. the next relationship i wanted to see was him and the rogues, these are his colleagues that he’s been meticulously building a network with by trading his toxin - they don’t explore any of it at all. there’s a scene where he kidnaps tim drake yet harley is still left in her cell in the studios(?) why? i do love the details however, scarecrow was exposed and vulnerable in arkham asylum - where he was grabbed and then his body tore apart - in arkham knight he makes sure to NEVER leave himself vulnerable.

To be 100% honest I always preferred scarecrow adobe joker, I love Mark hamill and heath ledger performance, but I think it’s overrated af, and scarecrow and other villains underrated that usually don’t have the spotlight in media.

Scarecrow is just the most amazing villain. He don’t want to kill Batman, he want to break him, he want to prove to everyone that Batman is not a legend but a human like everyone and that he can succumb to his darkest fears.

i really like scarecrow in arkham knight

Honestly I'd say the best Batman villains are all tied for 1st place: Those being Two-Face, Joker, and Scarecrow, because they all represent an aspect of the Dark Knight. Technically all his villains do, but those three seem to be fascinated or relate to Batman

The only problem with Arkham Knight is the fact that they swept scarecrow under the rug for who the Arkham Knight is even though anyone who know anything about batman lore knew almost right away who it was

Arkham Knight was an amazing game. Scarecrow was great villain.

Tbh I would simply explain scarecrow (as someone who’s never played a Batman games that’s not Lego) as THE BIGGEST HATER IN BATMANS CATALOGUE

This is how Dr. Poison in the 2017 Wonder Woman film *should have* been portrayed as. Why didn't the filmmakers have Elena Anaya lean more into the more sinister and psychotic side of Isabel Maru? The side that sadistically relishes the horror and suffering that she inflicts or even the scientist that wishes to see their work fulfilled and is morbidly curious by their "tests" effects on others. Who doesn't see their victims as people but as objects and means to her own ends (both versions are how both Maru and Crane have been portrayed in comics in the past). Why they didn't do something this just like they had John Noble do with the more sinister and cunning side of Scarecrow in Arkham Knight is mindboggling. We could have a truly terrifying and memorable villain to contrast the stern and serious Ludendorff and the wild and boss battle Ares(Who should *NOT* have been killed off).

Harley Quinn: No TRANSFUSED JOKER BLOOD business? That was the best part! And the worst part. The bworst. Deadshot: Sure missed a lot in Gotham while I was out of the game. Ain't sorry about it. Boomerang: Oi, if you ever heard a rumor about Scarecrow makin' me have an accident? NOT true. King Shark: There are so many villains in Gotham City! Much more than in Louisiana.

I dont find scarecrow as interesting villian. The edgy thing - i want to cause destraction/death/etc is kinda boring for main villian. For example, main villians of Arkham City have the point in they behaviour - Strange and Ra's hate criminals and one of them want batman join to League of assasins. Damn, even Jason have the sense in his plans

Scarecrow is hands down my favorite true villan, it would be freeze but I don't think he is a villan more of a anti hero

I am almost done with the game for the first time ever. Scarecrow in Arkham knight is a masterclass on how to write an imposing villain. John Noble was the perfect guy to cast in the role. He gave the character the gravitas it needed, although, I kept expecting him to talk about his dissapointing son Faramir every time he was being condescending to Batman. Like imagine that! Scarecrow: How disgraceful are you, Batman. Not being able to save your friends from inminent peril, just like my Bitch son Faramir. God I hate him!!

This was the best version of the Scarecrow, and of course at the end he was beaten by Batman, but he did EXACTLY what he said he would do. The legend was destroyed. He won.

And than Suicide squad comes to make all this a joke

Yeah of course my guy! I think Spiderman 2 has huge pacing issues with it's story and a messy story that tries to do way too much with the runtime it has. However, the gameplay is insanely addictive and I love the level design, 7/10

Arkham Knights story is an excellent conclusion to one of the best action and adventure series in gaming. My only issues with it are the lack of engaging and interesting boss fights and inconsistent level design with the batmobile 8/10

Nothing against Joker but Scarecrow is much more interesting and scarier than him and he’s my favorite Batman villain especially since I like the horror aspect of him

It's crazy how a 9 year old game trumps modern games from a graphics & lighting standpoint.

Do you want to know something funny as much some people say something is scary like dead space or non scary games like arkham i dont get scared at all

Crane is completely overshadowed by Jason and the joker in AK. It didn’t help that he was cliche as fuck in the game, to me anyway

Hot take but I actually kinda DISLIKE Scarecrow in Arkham Knight. I don't think he works as that type of villian and the attempts to make him this "calm, collected mastermind" fell flat for me. I think he worked much better in Asylum. Some villains are just more fun when they're just laughing hysterically. He was also ACTUALLY creepy in Asylum unlike Knight

Just a tidbit here. Joker is not a sympathetic villian he is evil through and through. Mark hammill makes him wonderful but the joker as a concept is almsot never redeemable

The best scarecrow is Arkham asylum scarecrow Arkham asylum scarecrow and Arkham city zsasz are the best Batman villians

Spiderman villains usually are jokes. Scorpion, mid. Goblin, overrated. Venom, hell usually becomes anti hero. Doc oc, usually becomes good. Sandman, more like sadman. Black cat, just an extreme knock off of Catwoman. Basically most spiderman villains aren't that "evil", usually are based off of animals, and aren't scary at all
