Why SaveSonDoong is larger than just about a cave? | Lê Nguyễn Thiên Hương | TEDxHanoi

SaveSonDoong was founded as a campaign to save the pristine charm of the world's largest cave from mass tourism. But overtime, this citizen-led campaign started to carry more just the mission of saving one cave. In this talk, Lê Nguyễn Thiên Hương, one of the co-founders of SaveSonDoong will reveal to you what its ultimate goal is actually about. Lê Nguyễn Thiên Hương is an educator by day and an environmental activist by night. She has been working in the field of education for a decade at different roles - a tutor, a teaching assistant, a teacher, a counselor, an admissions officer, etc. On the other hand, traveling has always been a big part of her life. And her expedition to Sơn Đoòng in 2014 has marked a big turning point for her. At the time, Hương was in the process of applying to graduate school for the major of Educational Psychology. But what she found out at Sơn Đoòng has changed her direction completely. Her SaveSonDoong campaign earned her a scholarship to Brandeis University, where she did two Master degrees in Nonprofit Management and Sustainable Development. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

touching. inspiring. I am frozenly speechless whenever I listen to Ms. Huong's talk, but then want to raise my little voice to support her campaign. Hope this fire can spread!

8:50 got my attention because in the USA we have the same problem. We have trees ,but no undisturbed soil beneath them so the trees technically cannot live there because they cost human life to maintain.

Hmm good presentation, but nothing happening as she is describing, everything is under control now, with regular expeditions to Son Doong with limited number of people.

Instead of calling save Son Doong, why not to call save environment or nature with quotes about SonDoong, Formosa, Bauxite? yeah, i appreciate your spirit and efforts from your team in saving campaigns but somehow i suppose that you have shown your opinion are not relevant to main point "SaveSonDoong" and you made me feel like you're an activist for social and political rather than a simple environmental activist by giving some protest photos, achieved results from fight to save 6700 trees, government problems, transparency and close eye like blind to accept death without resistance. Im not saying that you're wrong or you should not have that thinking or stuff like that it just simply not suitable in this case. Son Doong cave is just "discovered", "pulished" on the internet and became popular in some recent years. In fact, bad effects from service exploitation like plans to build capble car system are unclear and of course must have to evaluate carefully in that processing . Son Doong is also just one of the same other stuffs out there, let them go and grow with nature not like save it to conserve the beauty from forced perspective of human. I wonder why we always have a penchant caring for something big like natural wonders and put them in a special category ? Another aspect i like to call save living space for creatures in SonDoong rather than SaveSonDoong.
