Why's this a 'critical moment' for the US and Russia over Ukraine? - BBC News

President Putin has given his first public comments on the situation in Ukraine since December.

Russia can nuke Paris with short range missiles if they take control of Ukraine. This means russia can dictate energy deals throughout europe and hold europe ransom as long as they depend on russian fuel in the winter. This is a big deal to europeans and their future. This isn't about peace. And should Western nations ever get involved in regional conflicts. I think not. This regional conflict however is a European war because of the dependence of europe on russian raw materials. Russia has 180 million people...but has an economy the size of mexico, and has shrunk 35% in 5 years. They are fighting for survival. And speaking of the middle east. Do nations who want peace really want russia to go bankrupt and collapse when they have 4000 aging nuclear weapons and have destabilized territories with well organized terrorist organizations on their southern border. The russians have already forgotten how to run their space program due to corruption, lets hope they don't forget how to manage their nuclear warheads.

Things were relatively stable until Nato overthrew the Ukrainian government and installed western puppets. I have zero problem with Putin on this one. We tried to steal Russia's only naval access to the Black Sea and are trying to control the movement of Russian hydrocarbon assets. Additionally, Nato attempted to seize control of a natural and historical invasion route straight into the Russian heartland. We would never tolerate that in our sphere of influence, and Russia will quite naturally not tolerate it in theirs.

A year later, under occupation of Russian troops, with their military markings removed, a violation of Geneva convention itself, voted 90+ percent? Seems like a falsified vote, something Russia is very familiar with. Support for seceding probably did increase in that year, but by 70 percent is impossible. Why should NATO countries cause many disasters over the Ukraine issue which is a minor issue? NATO countries have no business in Ukraine. Russia is the natural guardian of Ukraine and for this reason, Ukraine should be left to the care of Russia. Russia is justified in objecting to the NATO partnership for Ukraine,as it will bring NATO presence in the very neighbourhood of Russia and hence a great security threat to that country. Did America tolerate the positioning of Russia missiles in Cuba during the Cuban crisis? If a war breaks out over the present issue, it will cause collateral damage of unimaginable magnitude to both NATO countries and Russia. In the end it will be large scale destruction all over the world for no useful purpose and compel the world to admit that NATO countries were totally wrong in their thinking and rather they were fools to lose a pound for gaining a penny over a petty thing i e. NATO membership for Ukraine. Therefore, they should give up their plan to make Ukraine a NATO country and learn to live with Russia in harmony and peace.

Ukraine has signed non-proliferation treaty and gave away its massive nuclear arsenal to Russia. Russia in return signed Budapest memorandum by which it committed “to respect the independence and sovereignty and the existing borders of Ukraine” and “to refrain from the threat or use of force” against it. @ "Russian expansionism of Europe" That is BS! Russian security concerns about NATO advancing toward Russian border with troops and offensive military hardware is 100% legitimate and well known to anyone with even half a brain. Refusing to acknowledge the obvious and believing American made hysteria is not only counterproductive, it is dumb! Russia is reactive and if their security demands are not met to satisfaction we may all end in a big pile of vitrified radioactive cinder, starting by subservient Europe. And we will only have the USA to thank for the extinction of life on this planet! Acting as a sane person who see how dishonest and selfish Americans and their subservient European footman are the greatest dynamo of military conflicts on this earth!

Pregnant NZ woman helped by Taliban for delivery A pregnant New Zealand journalist who was stranded in Afghanistan by her country's Covid boarder policy. The reporter had earlier celled senior Taliban contacts and was told she could give birth in Afghanistan. The offer amounted to a backdown after officials had earlier insisted Bellis needed to reaply force spot in the country's bottlenecked quarantine hotels. Her case was beginning an embarrasment to New Zealand. Bellis was disappointed the decision didn't offer a pathway for other pregnant New Zealanders. Taliban showed humanitarian sympathy for New Zealander woman journalist who needed help on humanitarian ground. It is appreciable indeed.
